The whole point of a console is to provide a good and unique experience that you need that specific console for. Nice UI, a unique controller, collectable physical games, and diverse exclusives. The PS4 and PS5 (basically just another PS4 revision) are horrible products that don't deliver on enough of the key points of a game console. In particular, the awful physical games, and poor exclusives are what really kill the Playstation. Sony seems dead set on erasing even the option for physical games, and has done their best to make their physical releases as unappealing as possible for collectors, and general consumers alike. You're forced to install the entire game onto your system, erasing the space-saving utility that physical media has for non-collectors. And if you are a collector, the games come in the flimsiest, cheapest case possible, often with legal text plastered all over the inside. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I really think they're doing this on purpose because they would save money and have more control over the content if they went all digital.
As for exclusives, they've essentially scared off any third-party devs, and have opted to release nothing but homogenized AAA movie games. Absolutely no diversity in exclusives, nor quantity either. These may sell well for now, but what happens when they go out of style? What are they gonna fall back on? If things go south for the PS brand who the frick's gonna want to work with them again?
PS is still popular for now, but I feel like they burned all their fuel in the PS4 era, and are bound to come crashing down if they don't leave their current bubble and make changes.
Counterargument:
Nintendo uses hardware that is 2 gens old.
That's really Nintendo's achilles heel. Aside from that, they provide a more unique console experience.
And yet Nintendo makes 60fps 1080p games optimized for their own shitty hardware while Sony with le powerful gwafix squandered the specs for more triangles in their realistic 30fps cinnematic experience
>Nintendo makes 60fps 1080p games
Name five.
Smash bros, mario kart, ARMS, any mario sports, Mario kart, splatoon
30fps was last gen. New standards are 4k@30 or 1440@60. Very few games don't do this outside of rare examples like that Matrix demo.
>New standards are 1440@60
Name 5 next gen games made by Sony that do this
Pick any but here are some.
Rift Apart
TLOU remake
Horizon Forbidden West
Returnal
Sackboy A big adventure.
>8th gen multiplats
>next gen
>still needs performance mode
Don't worry, the PS4.5 Pro Pro releases next year. Maybe you'll get actual next gen performance if you shell out an additional $500 (performance mode only)
>western trash
>4k
upscaled 4K*
no, real 4k. The upscaled 4k is 1440 via checkerboard. That's the "4k" 60 mode which is really just 1440. The 4k 30 games are 4k.
botw was 20-25fps and 900p
Every open world game is 30fps or worse
>Muh hardware
Playing video games has nothing to do with hardware when hardware limitations these days only amount to muh graphics.
>but but it can't do 4k with 60fps
2D games still do. IT's just 3D open world shit that don't.
Wrong pic. THIS playstation is bad.
This. Playstation was at its best during PS1, was a perfect blend of video game and "entertainment system" with the PS2, then went to shit after that.
When I saw your picture, I was thinking you were going to be shitting on the PS1, and I was ready to come here and flame you. But I see that you're only talking about nu-playstation, which is definitely trash. RIP
Everybody's Golf servers to shutdown in a few days. For no reason. A really fun sony first party IP is being erased from my library when no sequel is on the horizon. Just like Gravity Rush. At least I can cancel my PS+ subscription as it is utterly worthless to me now!
Thank you Sony! :^)
Nintendo Wii Shop servers shut down already. For no reason. Thousands of digital only games, gone forever.
Thanks Nintendo!
Wii shop shutdown cause Gamespy was bought there wasn't a "For no reason".
>Wii shop shutdown cause Gamespy was bought
So? Nintendo can't contract a new host? Cope tendie.
I already bought everything i wanted over a decade ago. I can still play these games. I can't play Everybody's golf. Snoy.
>I already bought everything i wanted over a decade ago
You got 5 years to play it, pretty generous for a multiplayer game.
>You got 5 years to play it, pretty generous for a multiplayer game.
By console standards.
I can still play tf2 (15 years) and wc3 (19 years) today.
>I can still play tf2 (15 years) and wc3 (19 years) today.
lol, PC kusoge, enjoy I guess.
lmao, people are playing PS3 Tekken 5 DR thanks to PC, get fricked sony basedboy
>not being able to play a game is the same as not being able to buy a game from one source
Snoy bootlicker
At this point, I'd accept a "Wii Week" every month where they reopen the Wii Shop Channel and turn back on their online Nintendo Wifi Connection stuff. Then make it so WiiConnect24 stays on forever for the Weather, News, etc, and the just shut down the online store until the next "Wii Week" if they need.
Of course I'd rather them just open the store and all the online features come back full force 24/7, but that would never happen unless somehow millions of people start playing their Wiis again, form some sort of mob, and then maybe Nintendo might put out a statement saying they'll "look into it".
Ganker just has this weird hatred for playstation, all their old IPs kind of died on the PS2, things like Ape Escape were deemed worse than Mario 64 and Spyro.
PS3 was when they started making new IPs and the system was carried by Uncharted and TLOU. Little Big Planet hung around and people laughed at it during this era and thought it was trash.
PS4 rolls around, and they rework god of war and introduce more new IPs like Horizon.
Suddenly Ganker hates these want wants old playstation back where as decades before they had no real success with their IPs like Ape Escape or Jumping Flash.
It comes off as like a bunch of people being asleep for decades, like did you miss the PS3 being a failure and the rebirth of Sony's first party studios where now they have multiple franchises that sell in the tens of millions?
Gravity Rush bombed, but the people who champion it At most watched videos on it or only played the short campaign. They didn't bother with the awful side content which was 80% of the game. Both 1 and 2 had real bad open world design which stuff like Horizon didn't even begin to approach.
If GR had well designed side content like Forbidden West or God of War you would probably have a more well liked game.
>blaming a website for sony games not selling well
Their IPs were more varied in the past. Not to mention the large catalog of third-party Japanese exclusives they were practically known for. They streamlined their IPs into AAA movie games, and ran off all the JP devs. Also, Gravity Rush did poorly because the Vita did poorly. And the Vita did poorly because Sony handled it poorly. And as for GR Remastered and GR2, they were released in a time when Sony was already nuking their Japanese image. Those games weren't marketed very well, and people hardly even know they exist. It's not a stretch to call Gravity Rush a niche series at this point.
Most of the people from japan studio left for nintendo (about 60, mostly monolithsoft), 30 went to team asobi (only astros playroom so far) and the other ones went on to do indie stuff by themselves.
Got ps4 and PC here and I'm still not sure if I want a PS5 at this point. I have yet to try the new sony "standard", as in god of war, horizon, tlou and spiderman (got them all on ps4 via ps+, never launched them).
You might like https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/doublekickstarter/armed-fantasia-and-penny-blood
>ran off all the JP devs
How the frick could they run off japanese devs when all the same companies are still making games for the PS5 including ones like Konami
And they just announced a bunch of multiplayer games which are all going to be with different mechanics
The whole narrative you're making doesn't hold any water.
Ganker is in a constant struggle with its own identity as a haven for Nintendo fans (it can't be denied) and a large contingent of niche internet subcultures converging. The kind of people that would casually talk about umihara kawase in the same post they praise siren and talk of a new sega saturn translation, on the flipside is an extremely hostile fanbase of nintendo fans which despite loving Nintendo have an extremely adversarial relationship with anything else Japanese. It's a weirdly contradictory existence because they'll claim to want games like gravity rush back but then refuse to ever buy the console its on.
It's really not hard to figure out how sales drive studios, and PlayStation is no different. Instead of conjuring excuses support games you actually like. There's people here unironically begging for Nintendo to get Gravity Rush (lol.)
>The kind of people that would casually talk about umihara kawase in the same post they praise siren and talk of a new sega saturn translation
I feel like for users desiring such niche experiences, the future will be on PC only.
There might be a few games releasing on switch because of it 98% market share in JPN, but most of them don't get released internationally, so you have to import and learn (you can't even speak english) japanese just to play them, instead of applying an enlish fan patch on PC.
>which despite loving Nintendo have an extremely adversarial relationship with anything else Japanese
Well, despite them not realizing it, they are fricking casuals. A nintendo console is always casual city. They might claim to humour core gamers as well, but xbox/ps do a better job at that.
>they'll claim to want games like gravity rush back but then refuse to ever buy the console its on
Yeah, nobody bought the games, they tanked and nu sony just nuked the division due to them not making bank. They will never release niche titles without mass apeal ever again. You will only find smaller projects on switch (due to shitty hardware, it's easier for a small team to code for that) and PC.
>the future will be on PC only.
I hope not, consoles are a much more desirable platform for this. This is something that should be fought against, tooth and nail.
Why do you dislike PC so much?
Is it because of digital only? Even some switch games are broken on card / too big for the card because the developer was a cheapass and you have to download content anyway. Will be gone in about 5 years as well.
yeah digital is the worst thing to happen to consumers.
>made up scenario
don't care.
>Why do you dislike PC so much?
The spawn of pretty much every cancerous industry practice and the second worst fanbas in this industry
It never will be, because despite the increase in PC game sales videogames first and foremost are designed console first.
>nintendo fans on Ganker are the reason why sony shut down Everybody's Golf and Gravity Rush
Nope
moron lol
Meant for
PS3 had no games for over a year.
PS4 was ok but went woke and started censoring/removing games from the store and banning shit because it was Japanese.
When people want the old playstation back, they don't mean PSX they mean sony when they weren't cucked into demanding all games to be moviegames full of Black folk and women.
>PS3 had no games for over a year.
Completely false. You fell for a meme.
PS3 has no gaems
trying to fit in like its 2007.
Butthurt like its 2007
bizarre post
>PS3-5
Terrible
>PS1-2
Excellent
I'm still buying a PS5 though.
How does that make you feel?
YOURE WASTING YOUR MON EY JUST BUY A PC
PLEASE BUY A PC I LIVE IN A BOX AND CAN ONLY USE TOASTER I HAD TO SEEL A KIDNEY TO UPGRADE FOR ELDEN RING
BUT HAHA YOU ARE THE IDIOT BY WASTING 500 DOLLARS I MEAN 500 DOLLARS THATS A LOT OF MONEY
YOU SHOULD SPEND 1500 ON A PC
What if he only has 500 instead of 1500, that’s a pretty big difference
>Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I really think they're doing this on purpose because they would save money and have more control over the content if they went all digital.
you haven't had control over your games since the 360 let you download games.
No, the point of a console is to play video games.
PlayStation is still bad though because it plays movies instead.
I jumped to PC this Gen. The final straw for me was selling a digital only version of the console for less money.
The push for a digital library was it. If I will be forced to go digital, it will be on a PC. Seems like this was the generation to hop over anyway so it all worked out. Playstation is a Californian company anyway now, so whatever. It was a good run but farewell
I don't get the hate for non pozzed movie and heavy narrative games. I mean they're alright and all, but at least they didn't insult our intelligence and forced us to look at hideous character models all the time.
Nintendo aren't really doing a whole lot better. Buy a physical game from them and they give you a giant empty case and a flash memory card.
Now do steam
barely a thing anymore but the last physical PC game I bought a decade ago had a disk and a manual (but they made me install steam to activate the game anyway).
What you don't mention is the disc doesn't even contain the game, just installs steam and activates a key. I would know, I bought Half Life 2 """physical""" copy back when it was first released.
Steam? I am happy with how they do business.
TOTK BROKE STREET DATE LETS GOOOOOOO
I miss instruction manuals.
At least the Switch has a unique case design that isn't flimsy, easily (often already) warped trash, and a higher likelihood of having interior artwork. I'd rather have it be completely blank on the inside than have all the eyesore legal text.
i like that all switch games are coffee flavored
As someone who bought both(yes both) gravity rush installments, it makes me scratch ,y head why Ganker will praise these games while in the same breath bash god of war or horizon.
Gravity rush had awful fricking combat and the enemies were no real fun to fight either.
Yeah you could alter your perspective, but since that served little to no purpose druing combat you were mostly jumping up in the ar and using gravity kick because that was one of the few good combat abilities.
Both God of War and Horizon have words better combat than GR ever had, and put way more thought into their level design and layout. Gravity Rush was pretty fricking barren with interesting shit to do.
Gravity Rush is a third person game in much the same vein as Horizon and God of War, thinking sony had some slight against the Japanese is even more moronic considering they just bought out nearly the whole US anime industry and proceeded to then vomit up SpyXFamily for the western world to enjoy.
And not only that they just made a Japanese external development support studio(which for the majority of it's life that's what Studio japan was) to release games like Ronin and Yakuza. And they did this because Ghost of Tsushima was a hit and that was a japanese peroid piece made by suckerpunch who had to cancel Sly Cooper's revival because the fricking Tsushima IP is now too big to quit on.
The whole Sony anrti-japanese narrative slant(if you exclusive the pun) seems to be brought on by a bunch of weebs who want to play victim in much the same way feminsists got upset at the princess alway needing to be rescued and how that eternally damaged their emotional ass.
Ganker has always had a complicated relationship with any game on playstation. Learn to suss out where people are coming from and you can see thru any bullshit. That is what you seem most confused by.
japan good the west bad
and to be frank, the japanese video game industry has been in shambles since the ps360 days. only israelitenintendo are able to release big budget titles that don't flop. snoy just went where the money is, your shit like legend of dragoon, ape escape, gravity rush, everyone's golf, arc the lad, the last guardian, and even bloodborne all sold very poorly. it only made sense for them to back naughty dog and other western studios when their games sell 10s of millions of copies. the only exception is polyphony digital but its just a car game
Legend of Dragoon was only saved by it's western sales, and when that happened they never made another one again.
Gravity Rush was as much a movement based platformer as it was just an action game. And it's take on movement was quite unique and was really fun what you could do with it. You're way over reacting about the combat being fricking awful, it was fine and sounds like you just didn't really get it if you were just jump kicking. The world and setting were also unique in a cool way (which you could argue so was Horizon, but it's arguably run of the mill scifi depending on how cynical you're trying to be). You're being bother obtuse by not mention the platforming while talking about the gameplay, and it comes off as a pretty dishonest take on it probably fueled by bitterness about how people have insulted Horizon and God of War before.
Jump kicking was the quickest way to break the weakpoints most of Kat's combat abilities were kind of bad or useless. Especially in 2 and all the hand to hand shit they had going on. There were only like 2-3 moves in total that were of any use and the rest were mostly junk abilities that didn't get better over time and were just resource sinks. You needed to dump crystals into her speed abilities just to clear the gold time trials. It was stupid shit like that which their western games lacked.
gravity rush and ape escape files:
https://gofile.io/d/nk2dEG
>people demanding ape escape
>None of them played Astro Bot Rescue Mission or Astro's Playroom
Honestly it's no fricking wonder we're stuck in an endless stream of revivals and remakes, people can't get go of the old shit and only appreciater new shit once it's old.
I swaer once MetalJesusRocks makes a hidden gems video about the PSVR you're going to have people talking about how fricking Astro Bot was amazing and on par with mario 64 with how it redefined platformers. And then they cry and lament that Team Asobi is making an anime action games because nobody fricking bought Astro when it was current.
>A unique controller
No thanks. The DualShock line of joypad is perfect and there's no real major improvement possibile.
Every sony controller has their left stick in the wrong spot and the shittiest battery of any 1st party controller. I can't think of one reason i would use a playstation controller over a contemporary Nintendo or Xbox controller except for maybe 2d side scrollers
>Every sony controller has their left stick in the wrong spot
ive been playing on dualshocks since day 1, this is a skill issue
>ive been playing on dualshocks since day 1, this is indoctrination
Fixed
Sure is a lot of Xbox troony seethe today
>BUT MUH BRAZIL
kek
>literal preemptive cope over his nationality
>The whole point of a console is to provide a good and unique experience that you need that specific console for.
No, the whole point is that it plays the games you want to play. I was skeptical about this gen of consoles because they were pretty much just a hardware improvement. The thing is that actually matters. These consoles play the games I want to play at a cheaper price point than a gaming desktop without any of the hassle. The load times are near instant in most of the games I've played. The games are all running at 60fps minimum. The operating system is miles ahead this generation. Instant upgrades on games I already owned. The controller is so much better I can't even believe it. This is easily the best experience I've ever had in gaming and I say this as a person that is chronically depressed and derives very little joy from gaming anymore. The truth is that most people posting hate have no idea what they're talking about. They're criticizing consoles they've never touched. I can't believe I was going to skip this generation. It's the best yet and I don't even care if new games happen. I'm good.
