When I think of gaming, I think of Croc.
Because I am the main character of the world, he's the main character of gaming. Perchance.

      I got croc because I wanted mario 64 and I wasn't gonna get a nintendo 64
      I was a kid, so I didn't know better
lucky for me I played a lot of tomb raider and I transitioned seamlessly into croc. I loved it
I can't imagine having such a positive experience if I had played sm64 first, or if I hadn't played tomb raider

      >comparando games
it's funny how dumb these spaniards are that they need to steal a word from another language to define such a strange and foreign concept

        >it's funny how dumb these spaniards are that they need to steal a word from another language t
But the word comes from latin, anon. Spaniards, latrinos, monkeys (brazilians), surrender monkeys (french), wops,... they all speak what are essentially dialects of Latin, so they are totally justified when using the word "compare". An english speaking person? Not so much.

    Croc has always been based.
I played the Croc demo at the perfect age for my brain to latch onto its ethereal early 3D digital world, Croc was an amazing experience for a five year old.

It’s been so long now I forget if I actually ended up buying the game or not. I just know it was in one of the jampack discs and I played it all the time.

Everyone probably knows this already but Croc was originally pitched to Nintendo as a Yoshi game.

Great game, pure platforming but in 3D, unlike the plethora of faux 3D platformer which have little to no platforming. Shame about the sequel, I dropped it after 15mins the controls are horrible and the game assumes the player is a moron.

Well it was actually cool game, second one too. I liked stomping those boxes and all the funny sounds croc would make which kinda reminded me of Yoshi. I just wished it had better controls because some platformers (Spyro for example) nailed it so much more.

Spyro was fun, but it's not the same type of game at all. I find it hard to call such games like Spyro platformers, platforming is a thing but it's not the main focus and you don't even deal with enemies by the act of jumping either. It's more like an action game with some adventure and platforming elements. Just like what most people call "3D paltformers" really.

Meanwhile Croc is a true 3D platformer, platforming is the main focus and jumping IS a mean of disposing of enemies. Just like Crash except Crash limits the 3D elements while Croc doesn't

didn't like the first game much, but 2 is a big part of my childhood.
used to play it everyday and reach world 3 without saving as I didn't have a memory card and somehow I wasn't bored of it.

Croc has a really good fan patch for the PC version that adds controller support and the PS2 music and like 8k resolution support, it's pretty cool.

I played through the whole game recently. I was surprised to find that if you have an analog controller, it controls completely different with the left stick moving croc normally (non-tank controls) and the right stick controls the camera.

The game controls well and Croc is responsive. I was surprised how quickly I became confident in platforming because Croc always seemed to do what I wanted once I got a feel for things. The enemies are interesting, though lacking variety, and the gimmick of collecting the color gems to get the bonus area was fun without feeling tedious.

As for the bad, the level design is awful. I had multiple times where I was confused because I loaded into a level I had already beaten, only to realize it was a new level that was laid out very similarly. Most of the game felt like the same set of levels in different colors (Green, Orange, and White). The last world had better variety for the Castle, but that was it. Bosses were also terrible, with basically all of them being run away until boss tired, then hit him. Do this three times.

Croc is a decently fun game that gets boring in the middle as you want something new. I don't think I'll ever replay it again, and while I got most of the Gobbos on my playthrough, I had no urge to 100% the game. If the game had better level and enemy variety with better exploration, it would be a top PS1 game for me.
