I think taking away its Rock weakness should be enough.

Doesn't even make sense for Ice to be weak to rock when thermal expansion is a thing.

      Anonymous

Rock is not strong against a many things, good to have it at least being useful offensively against Ice types.

Ice on the other side has no resistence at all apart from Ice. Better look for Types that barely face resistence.

sneaky pebbles overcentralizes the game and outright nullified the existences of whole typing before the advent of the boots
Ice not being one of them wouldn't solve its core flaw (being a heavily offensive type with mons specced primarily for defense) but it'd make a lot of them actually playable.

It'd be fine as a digimon; cute design in general. But when it comes to Pokemon, I'd rather they not look like manmade objects (especially food) unless they're ghost, steel, or in some cases electric.

      >Make it resist Water (Keep Water resisting it)
      >Make it resist Flying

      Fixed.

Hail giving a buff to Ice types would be real nice, even if it was just a Def boost like Sandstorm's SpDef to Rock.

Maybe adding 1 or 2 Resistances to your list like Grass. Or even an immunity somewhere. Steel has 10 resistances and an immunity. Surely since so many Ice types have defensive statlines it can get like half of that, especially given that it already has to deal with SR and common weaknesses.

I just want Glaceon to be good

Actually why the hell it doesn't get a boost with Hail? It's the only weather effects that does nothing else

They should've doubled down on the icicle mimic thematic instead of the ice cream thematic, like, remove that straw-shaped thing on it's head

I'm pretty sure the idea is that it's an ambush predator that disguises itself as ice cream to lure in prey.
Looking cute and silly and innocuous is part of its scheme.

It should have been a pokemon with no evolutions but could hold a "flavor" plate that changes its type to something ice cream related. Rock type flavor becomes rocky road, Fairy becomes strawberry, Grass becomes mint chocolate chip.

Ice is immune to Ice and resists Ground.

      Anonymous

      This was serious.

Most Ice pokemon are literally made of Ice and seem colder than Ice Beam. No reason they'd be affected by Ice. Plus it nerfs Ice offensively a bit, gives Ice frailmons some safe switches, and is a cool niche no other type would have.

Too few things are Ground resistant and you could say Ice types freeze the ground beneath them stopping its movement.

Water melts Ice, so if anything Ice should be weak to Water.

      Anonymous

      Too much ice freezes water
It depends of the quantity of ice and water - which makes them resisting each other a good idea

        Anonymous

No it doesnt. Cold freezes water but ice is frozen water. Water is always warmer than ice so it warms up the system no matter what.

I'd swap the Fairy resist for a Grass resist. Makes more sense thematically and Grass is sort of good enough now that it can afford another NVE hit. Plus Pokemon like Walrein and Lapras will now have a little more reason to stay in on Grass types and threaten them out. Currently they're Grass weak, which is ridiculous

      Anonymous

Grass is already super shit offensively. Water on the other side has barely anybody to resist it.

        Anonymous

Well I would keep the water and flying resistance too. I just think that grass offensively is kind of garbage, but the grass is also super oppressive right now in the current meta. The things that resist are bug, fire, steel, dragon and flying. adding ice to that does seem kind of extreme, but grass is still I think that useful that it needs to be checked just a little bit. On the other end maybe they could remove the flying weakness and resistance since I feel that that doesn't totally make sense. Not as much as the ice relationship might

      >I'd swap the Fairy resist for a Grass resist
Have it resist both. And have Grass resist Fairy as well along with giving Grass-type Pokémon like Meganium actual movepools.

Type fixes that need to happen and ones I know a bunch of you will fricking hate me for

    >Ice now resists Water, Grass and Flying
    >Bug and Fighting are now both neutral against one another
    >Bug now resists Fairy
    >Steel resists Dark again
    >Fairy no longer immune to Dragon, Dragon just does NVE damage now
    >Dark now SE against Fairy creating a two way relationship
    >Psychic now resists Fairy but is NVE against Bug
    >Electric's Paralysis immunity is removed. Now they are just immune to Thunder Wave
    >Dark's Prankster immunity is removed. Now they are immune to moves that force a redirect (but not abilities)
    >Psychic and Ghost attacks can now hit behind a Sub
    >Fighting types are immune to Taunt and Torment
    >Splinters as a status is introduced into the core games
    >Drowsy is now caused by most moves that cause Sleep, but a Drowsy Pokemon will fall asleep if it left out too long or it isn't woken up. Sleep can now end if you're hit by a contact move
    >Frostbite replaces Freeze in most cases. Freeze still exists but is super rare
    >Ice now gets a Snow weather effect that works more like Rain/Sun, replaces a lot of Hails current abilities/effects and causes, minus the chip damage
    >Hail still exists as a separate weather. Buffs Def of Ice types

I forgot to add two more things
      >Flying can hit behind a Sub
      >Grass and Flying are now neutral all around

If sleep ends on hit with a contact move I feel like the move that wakes a mon up should be stronger to make up for it.

Dark being able to hit Steel for neutral makes no sense. Swap it to Psychic. And Grass gets balanced back in the later post by making it no longer weak to or resisted by Flying. I'd also maybe remove the Bug resist while still keeping it Bug weak and then compensate for Bug by making Bug resist Fairy and Psychic while also now being neutral against Fighting. And to make up for Dragon becoming NVE against Fairy it now also gets resisted by Rock. Fairy being immune to Dragon makes little sense outside mechanics, and I think giving Rock a resist to compensate helps mons like Aggron and Tyrantrum feel more powerful while also making up for Rock having a lot of common weaknesses

Steel resisting osychic is literally why the type came into existence.
If I were to buff psychic, i'd just give it a new move like freeze-dry that works against dark types and give it good distribution. Call it something like "Bright Idea" but the typing doesn't struggle the same way bug or ice do.
Grass is perfectly fine, the weak type chart itself hides the fact their tool distribution is fricking insane.
Bug should unironically be SE against and resist fairy for mechanics and aesthetic reasons.
Ice just needs to have its mons reflect the nature of the type, it's perfectly balanced as a glass cannon type but it tries to make too many bulky pokemon.

            Anonymous

My beef with Psychic is just that they're a pretty damn useless type now. They need another resist and something else to make using their offense worth your while. I think being able to hit Steels at this point makes sense

  8. 2 years ago

Why wouldn't Water be weak to Ice anyways? When water gets cold enough it begins turning into ice, which I feel would be a bad thing for a water type.

Honestly, Ice doesn't need to have a boost offensively. It woud just make water types stronger.

    Just make them faster.
At least 90% of fully evolved ice types should have >100 base speed.

It doesn't already? I've spent the last 21 years thinking this was already the case.

Originally Ice was supposed to be the glass cannon type in Gen 1, where Blizzard was everywhere and Fire didn’t resist Ice back then (an oversight or some “Ice is just frozen Water” logic, I don’t know).
Since Gen 2, Ice is got heavily nerfed and strangely no one talks about it. The single best defensive typing in Steel and also Fire now resist Ice, and Ice got a new weakness too, and it was never compensated for this either.

      Ice only resists itself.
It's the worse defensive type in the game by a pretty comfortable margin.

    How about
    >Freeze reworked to add Ice type to pokemon instead of current effect, plus damage every turn like Burn
    >if hit by an attack that's super-effective both against Ice and the Pokemon itself they thaw out (Frozen Psychic pokemon will get thawed by a Rock attack, but not by Bug (SE but not to ice) or Fighting (SE to Ice but not to the mon)).
    >typing comes with all the resistances, STABs and hail immunities you'd expect
    >an item called Warm Jacket prevents Freeze's damage over time
    >multiple moves are added or changed to consistently and semi-consistently cause Freeze
This way Ice-type's shittiness is harnessed as both harmful status and gimicky volatile offensive strategy.

      This just makes ice ATTACKS stronger, water poekmon would be better ice types than the ice types;

I'd prefer Ice to just go all in on the "Glass Cannon" type. Make it deal super-effective damage to more types (Water, Fairy, maybe?) but keep its terrible defensive matchups.

i like this idea. i think making it SE against fairy is the best way to justify how shit it is defensively. it can take out two of the strongest types, but it has frick all resistances
