Reality is that in the next 5 to 10 years the semiconducter capacity in the world will have doubled.
Because of CCP china who keeps fricking with taiwan the west has realized that it isnt really that smart to have most of our semiconducter production capacity in one asian island nation next to chink shithole.
Both in the US and europe there are over a dozen of plans well underway to build state of the art semiconducter plants to completly move outsourced production from the west to taiwan back to the west.
So that will in return create market where taiwan in the future will aggressively compete with western semiconducter plants and in return will drastically lower the price.
But you dont build semiconducter plants overnight, these take years to plan out and build and get the fab process right.

why? mining is dead you dont have to peddle bullshit anymore.
investors are lemmings who expect magic infinite growth. because miners caused a massive spike in high end card sales investors think this will go on forever even though all the miners dipped. nvidia is currently trying to bullshit their way out of this without taking any losses.
1070.
I only care about a handful of modern games and 1080p so I'm riding it out until it melts. I also refuse to support Nvidia so I'm buying used from my trusted friends.
my trusty 5700XT red devil runs everything I need at maximum 60+ fps on 1080. pretty sure I wont need to upgrade for at least another 3 years wich is nice.
And how does it run? I heard AMD gpus are cukked when it comes to vr and have microstutter.
I don't do vr but I can tell you I had a lot of stuttering when I first installed the card. I thought it was my cpu so I upgraded to a 5700x and it still stuttered. The bios update for the cpu reset my ram speed so when I got it back up to 3200mhz, the card worked perfectly
I can't really compare it to Nvidia because I only had AMD gpus since getting VR, but normally it's fine. Stutters usually only happen on initial loads or social apps, and activating FSR also gave a small FPS boost.
Never switching back to Nvidia. Each driver update that AMD releases proves it's the GPU company, plus nvidia has such shitty practices such as look at 2000 series/3000 series of giving small amounts of RAM then giving some bullshit about "we don't need that much ram for gaming" but within 2 years decking them out with it for 4k series. They basically made all 2000 series useless for future games and driver updates
Then why does AMD consistently give more VRAM than their Nvidia counterpart see 3070 vs 6700 and 6800XT vs 3080.
Each driver update closes the gap and performance and now that we're heading into the new gen of games, guess what the AMD is performing better than Nvidia because nvidia is focused on selling 4k series rather than ensuring their 3k is still competitive. It's just trash practice
my next card is going to be AMD, after what they are doing with their cards its just not worth staying with them anymore. im actually excited to see what happens with these new AMD GPUs but i fear they will be near enough the same cost as nvidias
It'll be a little cheaper, but AMD still has the better business practices as I've said above, they're more future proofed typically and their driver updates are applicable for all cards, not just current generations
my next card is going to be AMD, after what they are doing with their cards its just not worth staying with them anymore. im actually excited to see what happens with these new AMD GPUs but i fear they will be near enough the same cost as nvidias
Amd cards are comfy if you are actually somewhat literate when it comes to pcs. If you're a moron who can't into pcs and installs every beta driver without a second thought, you'll end up like pic related
Currently installed is USF4, TF2, CS:GO, Mirror's Edge, Obduction, The Spectrum Retreat. Some stuff, though I've mostly been playing Cookie Clicker recently.
if buy an amd card if amd partnered with evga
i have a 3060 ti from evga and i honestly dont know if i ever want to upgrade again. they were the last non scummy geaphics card provider around.
3060 TI, don't have enough room in my closet room for more than 1080p anyway. I'll try AMD next for both CPU/GPU on my next computer since intel and NVIDIA went banana.
It's just that i recently bought a meme gamer laptop, and learned the hard way that it can't run anything despite it should (too low of RAM, viruses, i dunno), so i was hoping i could upgrade just the GPU and adding some ram and call it a day.
Zotac 3080 amp holo. The fans are falling apart and they are loud as frick under load. The general advice is to ziptie two noctuas to it and hope for the best. Shit card. But it was in stock.
shit bearings. rattling at low rpm. """fix""" is to only have them spin up under load. plus that the fans are hitting the plastic coat under certain rpms.
I have one of those in my mothballed mining rig, honestly the construction is better than my EVGA XC3/FTW3s, and better stock temps too.
Fricking Zotac insists on gluing their dumb logos onto the fans though, you'd think from pictures that they're just stickers or paint or something, but all of those things on the fan hubs are in fact fairly thick lumps of plastic. I'm convinced that they put uneven wear on the bearings and cause premature fan death.
Oops I forgot I still had a novelty trip on, my apologies.
1080Ti
I'm tempted to wait and get a 4090Ti and then never need another GPU for the next decade
its leaked specs seem insane (and the leak accurately got the 4090, and both 4080 variants correct, so it seems trustworthy)
48GB GDDR6X? That's definitely gonna be 12 2GB chips on both the front and back of the PCB, like the 3090 again but close to twice as much peak VRAM power/heat. Surely that thing is going to need active cooling for the backplate somehow, that shit only barely worked on 3090s already.
The 1660 may rank low on benchmarks, but it's actually very capable at 4K/120 for most games. That said, I want raytracing, so I'm upgrading to a 4090 (alongside my PSU, natch) next year.
if you're not getting it until next year and you're already splashing out for a 4090, then why not just get the full AD-102 card and grab a 4090Ti instead?
nvidia has a better reputation for drivers and more features while costing like 100 $ more than an equivalent (rasterization wise) xard from AMD. there isn't much reason to go with AMD gpu if you're not a super poorgay.
>I don't give a fricking shit
ok >anything I would've gotten some dickhead wouldve said the same fricking thing
so why the cope? the rtx 3050 is a terrible deal, only thing worse you could have gone for would have been a rx 6500 xt.
Used GTX 1070s go for like 120 € / $ these days. Sure hope you didnt pay much more than that considering that's the max performance you can expect from a 3050.
The 1050 ti was worth it to people with office PCs that wanted to do some gaming, since it didn't require external power or serious airflow, and very few processors bottlenecked it.
Yeah, thats why i said poor value instead of terrible value. It had its niche uses but unless you were severely constrained a rx 470 was so much more worth it.
I got this meme card for 3 months of my pay here in brazil and I don't even know what games should be playing with it. Virt-A-Mate looks great with it though
2070 Super. Bought the amd equivalent first but it would green screen on me which i read online was due to Gigabyte having dogshit vbios. May try a Sapphire or Powercolor GPU in the future though.
They are just pricing themselves out of competing with 30-series and thus not having to lower the prices. They are stuck with a metric frickton of stock and will slowly sell it until next series is ready. This will take a few generations. Prizes will go down but only on their terms. Nvidia wins as always.

I'm not sure whether I should go straight to a 6800xt or wait for what AMD has to offer. Still runs alright, though.
The RX 6950 XT is the only AMD card that can offer decent performance, else get RTX for the tensor cores and sleeper AI cultivation for the third wave of crypto.
Don't ever call me by one of those tranime chink names again, Black person. We should've nuked more than two of your chinky, dog-eating cities way back in the war. At least my fawtha made sure to shoot some of you.

That's exactly what Intel needs. Intel will improve their GPUs in time, but their current card designs are terrible, held together with tape + glue + several dozen screws of several different sizes/heads, with numerous daughter boards for LEDs and other nonsense, like six or seven internal cables with completely asinine routing that have to be held down with tape, and so on. good luck getting that shit back together if you even manage to work out how to take it apart.
By comparison, the last EVGA card I personally took apart (3080 FTW3) was dead easy, I think there were only about 20 screws (and only 2 kinds, small ones for almost everything, and 4 larger ones for the rear x-clamp thing), no tape, no glue, fewer cables which are easy to detach and routed sensibly, no moronic mess of daughter boards. The only questionable thing was...I think there were two small nuts to hold the backplate on near the IO shield, which would be easy to lose if you didn't know about them, and are a bit tricky to line up for reassembly, but nothing too egregious.
EVGA's got two decades of experience packaging up another company's chips, I'm sure they could fix Intel's mess up no problem. Probably good for marketing too since EVGA already has a considerable following, I'm sure a sizeable chunk of people would be more open to giving Intel's cards a chance with EVGA branding on them.
>980ti hybrid that I eventually converted to standard cooling when the pump died and now somehow get better temps than when it was on water
Honestly at this point I'll probably just use thing until it dies since it's still rare for me to find a game it can't handle on decent settings at 1440p. It blows my fricking mind how I was able to get this flagship card for $420 back in 2016 and now a 4080ti costs almost a thousand bucks, absolute clown world

Like others in the thread, I'm rocking the 3060 Ti FE for 1080p 144hz. I really don't see myself ever changing this card unless something with newer video games drastically changes in an incredibly fricking moronic way. Like, 10 years down the road or something. Even if I don't get perfect 144 FPS in some random first person shooter that has special lightning effects up the ass, I don't give a shit as long as the frames are generally high.
why not wait and get the 4090Ti instead if you're already on a 3090? It's a gigantic leap over the base 4090

12GB Gigabyte 3060 415€. ordered on friday, got it on saturday. so far nothing i threw at it with ultra and raytracing brought the card below 70fps at 1440p (aside from mechwarrior 5 going 20fps lol). and i can do batches of 8 images at once as well as textual inversion.
very silent card, and doesnt go over 62c° under full load. coming from a fricking zotac 1060 this was a fantastic upgrade.

my 5600xt did weird stuff when i first got it but fixed with a bios update
No shit. Actual pajeet codemonkeys make the drivers. AMD gpus are good for aaa gaming and nothing else. They're a decent poorgay budget option. I'd take a functional 3060ti over a 6700xt any day tho. Fricking baffling that AMD can't get their shit together when it comes to gpus. Now of course some homosexual will reply saying "OH UHM I ACKSCHUALLY DUDNT HAVE ANY ISSUES XD". AMD drivers are a meme for a reason. No, it's not some issue of the past. Up until a few months back, you'd be getting as much fps in fricking Minecraft as some older fricking gpu because opengl was completely fricked on amd cards. Now it's "alright". AMD cards still struggle with vr, Dx9 games, and so on.
So what's actually better, amd or nvidia
I want to upgrade but can't decide, amd cards are cheaper, consume less powah, have more vram and are easier to find since no one wants them, but the main thing i hear is that drivers are dogshit and you can just crash mid game, i'm playing mainly online so that's unacceptable
Nvidias on the other hand are stable, but more pricey and have less vram
Is it worth it to pay more for this stability or are amd driver issues actually overblown?
I got a RTX 3080 super which has just arrived in my mailbox. I am super content. It can play all my favorite videi games such as Minecraft GTX and Guangxiao Lai at 2690x1430 92fps. I hope you guys OC help bring pleasure 😉
my 1060 6GB is still holding on for light 1440p gaming and with FSR popping up more modern games are less of an issue, barring the hit to the resolution

Currently installed is USF4, TF2, CS:GO, Mirror's Edge, Obduction, The Spectrum Retreat. Some stuff, though I've mostly been playing Cookie Clicker recently.
not true, i have all my gpus i've ever bought sitting in the corner of my bedroom.
i can turn any of my rigs into enthusiast emulation boxes
Hope you're enjoying your spreadsheets Anon
That was my GPU for most of the pandemic.
I've upgraded since then, mostly so I could play vidya at 144Hz.
Don't feel bad anon. My first gpu was a radeon hd 5450. I think most of us had a garbage tier gpu at some point
This I used to have a 1060 3gb
I'm so sorry anon
Can that thing run neopets?

if buy an amd card if amd partnered with evga
i have a 3060 ti from evga and i honestly dont know if i ever want to upgrade again. they were the last non scummy geaphics card provider around.
*I'd buy
fanboy loyalty for board partners is so fricking cringe
evga had good customer service and warranty service, moron. that shit meant something back when the world wasnt as dystopian as it is now.
you're being very overdramatic about a GPU
>rx 6800
I lucked out on the drip releases and got it in December 2020 at MRSP from AMD store.
3060 TI, don't have enough room in my closet room for more than 1080p anyway. I'll try AMD next for both CPU/GPU on my next computer since intel and NVIDIA went banana.

you got the mousepad?
Why are external GPU's not a thing yet? That way i could just buy a random laptop and play anything there.
Explain to me why that wouldn't work.
it is but its not worth it like picrel
The price you pay for.....mobility?
Compact? Lol, whats the point aside from mining.
It's just that i recently bought a meme gamer laptop, and learned the hard way that it can't run anything despite it should (too low of RAM, viruses, i dunno), so i was hoping i could upgrade just the GPU and adding some ram and call it a day.
whats the gpu on that
they exist you just have to pay up the ass for them
You need some sanic thunderbolt to handle modern cards as egpus, and cheap laptops don't come with that
Because you still need a good CPU to do fricking anything?

Zotac 3080 amp holo. The fans are falling apart and they are loud as frick under load. The general advice is to ziptie two noctuas to it and hope for the best. Shit card. But it was in stock.
how the frick are the fans falling apart?
shit bearings. rattling at low rpm. """fix""" is to only have them spin up under load. plus that the fans are hitting the plastic coat under certain rpms.
cba to be honest. I just watch anime anyways.
could try fixing yourself

It has a warranty dude, use it
>Zotac
Might as well buy an XFX if all you wanted is to get fricked in the ass.

I guess it depends when it comes out. I will probably have the spare cash next spring.

RTX 3070 (Laptop)
I thought there would be more amd, 80% of this thread runs nvidia.
it's because of dlss, raytracing, and superior drivers
nvidia has a better reputation for drivers and more features while costing like 100 $ more than an equivalent (rasterization wise) xard from AMD. there isn't much reason to go with AMD gpu if you're not a super poorgay.
I'm not opposed to switching. Nvidia is going nuclear.

from poor value to abysmal value, good job anon. you upgraded to a glorified gtx 1070.
I don't give a fricking shit, anything I would've gotten some dickhead wouldve said the same fricking thing.
just saying but you could had gotten a 6600 or 6600XT, if you are lucky, for the same price point

>I don't give a fricking shit

>anything I would've gotten some dickhead wouldve said the same fricking thing
so why the cope? the rtx 3050 is a terrible deal, only thing worse you could have gone for would have been a rx 6500 xt.
Used GTX 1070s go for like 120 € / $ these days. Sure hope you didnt pay much more than that considering that's the max performance you can expect from a 3050.
But I'm not coping. I paid 300 for it.
dollars or euros? because if dollars then god damn anon, you could've got a rx 6650 xt for LESS.
Frick it i'll pull the trigger on the 3060ti

2070 Super. Bought the amd equivalent first but it would green screen on me which i read online was due to Gigabyte having dogshit vbios. May try a Sapphire or Powercolor GPU in the future though.
yeah gigabyte is dogshit, that company has been selling dodgy GPUs for a decade or more.

you overclocked it?
went with the undervolt route because shit is load as frick
that makes it more silent?
undervolting will decrease the temps, which allows you to decrease the fan speeds
less energy, less heat, fans don't spin up as much

Sapphire Pulse RX 6600
They are just pricing themselves out of competing with 30-series and thus not having to lower the prices. They are stuck with a metric frickton of stock and will slowly sell it until next series is ready. This will take a few generations. Prizes will go down but only on their terms. Nvidia wins as always.

I'm convinced EVGA will end up partnering with Intel, the two companies are already friendly and Intel's ARC cards are a total mess.
Here's a Chippy plushie EVGA sent me, who in turn got it from Intel.
EVGA don't have any of the know how required to actually make GPUs, anon, they just put Nvidia's GPU into a shell of their own making
It blows my fricking mind how I was able to get this flagship card for $420 back in 2016 and now a 4080ti costs almost a thousand bucks, absolute clown world

why the frick would I have carpet and not wood flooring, it's not the 70s anymore
in any case you shouldn't need a gigantic tower to house these moron size 4090s.
Leftists hate the new RTX 4000s series because they believe the climate change apocalypse narrative of the church of scientism, and are scared of high power usage because they are beta males and think that they'll get a booboo by touching the cables.
I'll have room to spare in my based Fractal Torrent.
DDR6X runs really hot and they have bumped the clock speeds up by roughly a whooping 1GHz over the 30 series

just get a rx 6600 or a rx 6600 xt if youre feeling like putting on your big boy pants
id upgrade the cpu too though thats an old and slow piece of shit im sorry to say
just bend your case a bit bro
Like others in the thread, I'm rocking the 3060 Ti FE for 1080p 144hz. I really don't see myself ever changing this card unless something with newer video games drastically changes in an incredibly fricking moronic way. Like, 10 years down the road or something. Even if I don't get perfect 144 FPS in some random first person shooter that has special lightning effects up the ass, I don't give a shit as long as the frames are generally high.
mid towers really aren't that big
I've always thought small cases were gay, though, so I'm biased
Is there alot of difference between pulse and nitro+?
Nitro+ has somewhat better cooling. That's about it. Pulse is fine for cards up to the rx 6750xt. 6800 and up you should go with nitro+ imho
2070 super. Looking to upgrade to a 4090 if it didn't burn houses down after real user bench marking, or just getting a 3090ti

Oh do those also get released along side the regular 4090? On October 12th?
no, that's why I said why not wait since you're already on a very high end GPU
Ti variants are 6 - 12 months away
Oh just cause I'm impatient, but you're right I might a well wait a little longer for the Ti to come out.

>amd gpu shits itself

6900xt for $700
So what's actually better, amd or nvidia
I want to upgrade but can't decide, amd cards are cheaper, consume less powah, have more vram and are easier to find since no one wants them, but the main thing i hear is that drivers are dogshit and you can just crash mid game, i'm playing mainly online so that's unacceptable
Nvidias on the other hand are stable, but more pricey and have less vram
Is it worth it to pay more for this stability or are amd driver issues actually overblown?
Finally got a 3070 to replace my r390.
Feels pretty good man
I got a RTX 3080 super which has just arrived in my mailbox. I am super content. It can play all my favorite videi games such as Minecraft GTX and Guangxiao Lai at 2690x1430 92fps. I hope you guys OC help bring pleasure 😉
