Pretty ashamed to admit that I'm stuck on the last boss in Chrono Trigger.

Pretty ashamed to admit that I'm stuck on the last boss in Chrono Trigger. It was a pretty easy game up until this point. I decided to skip the sidequests at the end and just grind my characters up to level 50-52 on deaths peak or whatever its called (the place with the skeletons that drop ethers)
My first attempt was with Frog, Chrono and Magus. I absolutely steamrolled the first form of Lavos but the final form seemed almost impossible with that party composition because the left hand of Lavos is immune to magic, and without any good double techs Magus is pretty much useless. I found myself having to rely on X Strike which meant Magus was the healer (not good)
The second attempt I made was with Ayla, Frog and Chrono. The problem is that I could not get past Lavos first form. he kept one shotting Ayla with the titty lazer and because I kept having to cast life or use a revive I couldn't disable it's stupid fricking arms

Should I go back and do the side-quests? Do you get any relevant items for this fight? tbh Id rather just level grind. Maybe it's because i'm coming off of Dragon Quest III. I love this game but I want to move on.

Lavos is a tank and takes longer to kill than you'd expect compared to previous bosses. Just change your playstyle to be ready for a long haul battle.

Please don't post pictures of the last bosses of video games as the thumbnail of a thread; it's rude to everyone who hasn't finished the game yet.
Lavos is not a particularly difficult final boss. At this point in the game you should have accumulated so many resources that you're stronger than it is. You should have so many Elixirs and Megalixirs saved up by now that you can rely on those purely for healing. That means you have unlimited MP. Get creative.
If you somehow have used up all your consumable items, you can buy Turbo Ethers, which are almost as good as Elixirs.

Frick off, moron. These games are all old, if anyone here wants to avoid spoiler, then don't post in a retro game board.

It's assumed someone finished that game and he wants to talk about it and so he is going to post images that are spoiler since he expect others have also finished the game, since it's an old game.

Nah he's in the right. What's your statute of limitations? You are basically insisting that everyone on this board has beaten every game released before 2007. You're in the wrong 100%.

There is no limitations. If it's old, there is no complaining about spoiler. If you want to avoid spoiler for old games, don't join any place that discuss about old games.

So it's assumed everyone already finished every game released before 2007? Mods should ban people like you

You should be banned, much like how your parents banned you from the house and family when you transitioned.

For anyone who doesn't know, Lavos is a dramatization of the israeli god Moloch blended with physical features of the Egyptian god Kek. The harvest that Lavos plans to enact upon the Chrono Trigger world is a metaphor for what the israelites plan to do to this world -- harvest our DNA to recreate the genetic structure of Satan who mated with Eve to form Cain, and turn the world into a hellscape after the Rapture.

Picture taken at the Colosseum in Rome in 2019. Notice the similar appearance and posture to the third form of Lavos.

I recommend having either Frog or Robo in your team so you can spam their group heal
It's been 10 years I don't play this but I remember my first team was Crono, Lucca and Frog

Iirc there is a battle speed setting in the options which you can lower and that is kinda easy mode. I did this I think against Lavos or maybe earlier.

If by "side quests" you mean the dungeons that unlock at the same time as the Lavos fight, the game kinda expects you did them since you naturally end up at the expected level after clearing them.

    >I decided to skip the sidequests at the end and just grind
    What? Why?
You need to get more powerful--and you have an open world full of secret powerups. And you decide to grind?

Best final party for a newb is Chrono/Robo/Marle.

Their triple tech is Life3 which gives you an autorevive if you die, and the Robo+Marle double tech heals everyone for 999. Chrono and Robo can kill the left bit then Ice Tackle the left bit while chrono does luminaire or confuse.

Give Crono the sword that increases Counters or Critical Hits.
    Crono, Lucca, Frog.
    Frog Flare.
    Luminaire.
    Heal.
Don't waste resources on the middle guy (humanoid one). Just let him attack you and concentrate on the right bit (real Lavos).

The motive for the sword is because whenever Lavos uses Time Warp, it can trigger a counter, even if Time Warp is an attack that never causes damage. Free attack.
