Does privacy exist in modern gaming?
>go to buy a steam deck
>find out I need to make a valve account + give them all my financial info, even if bought through eBay, an account + data harvesting is mandatory to use the steam interface
>"okay then, I'll order a brand new PS4 and play offline disc games"
>Sony account required to place order
>"Okay, I'll get a temporary email address and throw in some fake credentials"
>Sony requiring you to verify your age via personal documents of a face scan (this is mandatory just to get to the checkout page)
t. schizo and proud
No
video games and privacy are mutually exclusive nowadays you can choose one not both
I know current consoles are, but what about the PS4? Can you use that with disc games? For example Bloodborne GOTY on disc is obviously going to have most of the patches installed.
Try the switch, no personal data required.
homie just buy the ps4 in store
They're only sold by sony (online) now
Every store around me has them in stock, where do you live a third world country or something?
PS4s? The UK, theyre virtually discontinued here
Unlucky, I guess try buying used.
Never needed too with my PS4
>Never needed too with my PS4
You never needed what?
Make an account to use it for offline games.
Can you even update your games without a PSN account connected to it?
Yeah but if you're the schizo you say you are why would you even connect it to the internet?
No
There are ways to remain private, but I'm not up to the task, and if my paranoid richass can't do it then neither can you.
Don't buy a PS4 then.
You can't even use the console without logging into your account.
If they ban you for calling someone a homosexual online they ban your account and you can't even access any games you bought on your account.
You can buy a deck second hand and either use a throwaway account for steam OS or install any other OS on it though.
It's a PC and as such you can install everything manually if you wish.
>You can't even use the console without logging into your account.
Is this for real?
No, you can just plug a linux liveusb or windows installer into the USB port and nuke the preinstalled OS from orbit.
You'll die alone in 50 years and literally nobody will care about you or your "info". You need to get your ego in check.
Yes.
>uses windows
pirated windows*
Just like install a different distro and don't use steam.
The Steam Deck is literally just a PC.
Don't you guys have phones?
this shit was insane, i was actually seething when this screen came up
same goes for overwatch 2, and god help you if you say Black person or other no-no words, they monitor EVERYTHING now and will auto ban you via an AI, then an employee will look thru your entire posting/chat history(including voice chat) and see if there is anything illegal, in which case they will hand it over to police and give you a nice SWATTING, they have your personal data you gave them after all
I don't see how anybody can play these games anymore, I doubt I will be playing any AAA ones if this is going to become a standard
You bought a modern aaa game?
moron. you deserve everything they shit into your mouth.
>bought
warzone 2 is free
buy a pc and pirate all your games
there's linux builds created for privacy schizos
the single websites will still harvest your data anyway.
>concerned by privacy
>posts on .gov website
>Does privacy exist in modern gaming?
>>go to buy a steam deck
>>find out I need to give them all my financial info
Mental illness
>even if bought through eBay, an account + data harvesting is mandatory to use the steam interface
Yes, steam account is required to access steam account.
It's a pc you don't need it moron
buy physically, buy second hand, etc
you're just looking for excuses
Of course not.
Are you buying everything with cash in a place with no cameras?
Stop being a moron. Privacy doesn't exist unless you're innawoods, and even then you gotta know where satellites are so you can avoid them.
I feel like people dont really understand how much of their info is already out there. Im not saying its a good thing, but to think that not giving steam your email is somehow a "good" thing is absolutely ridiculous. I can bet you that most of your details (address, name, dob, etc) are already out there in the internet somewhere and its being sold and traded constantly.
To think you have less than anyone else out there is also a complete misunderstanding. Like ok maybe they only have 100 of your things compared to someone elses 150. But it is negligible. If you think youre somehow "based" or some dumb ass shit for it.. idk what to tell you man. If you think youre keeping off the grid somehow.. you arent, you just arent.
He says on a site that automatically harvests data for advertising purposes and to sell to third parties
>a site that automatically harvests data for advertising purposes and to sell to third parties
that is every site on the internet
My Mom is apparently more tech savvy than you because she could get her PS4 working just fine and she doesn't even have internet access.
