My big gripes with Elden Ring is the amount of enemies with 5 hit or more combos, even giant enemies that should be slow can do some stupidly fast 4-6 hit combo. It makes no sense and compared to every other game of the franchise, it is so terrible, it feels like every game from Bloodborne onward added that style of enemies which is very lame

Bastard's Stars is the only good flail, the others are outclassed by Hammers that have lower requirements, better movesets, better ashes variety, better base damage, and better scaling. i.e. the Morning Star makes the Flail and Nightrider Flail absolutely pointless. Chainlink is only good because it get an S STR on Heavy. Family Heads is just trash and it serves no purpose over Bastard's Stars.

It's impossible to do any NPC questline without following a guide, when Elden Ring was released it took the community a few weeks to compare notes to find out quest lines.

I like the lore being hidden in item descriptions, environmental storytelling, and NPC dialogue but even then it's not all completely pieced together leaving a lot of things up to speculation about the story. I would appreciate more definitive pieces of lore.

Godrick's rune pretty much invalidates all other runes by being too good and it's the first one you get from a weak demigod, other runes should get a buff. Rune Arcs should be farmable offline.

Not on your first playthrough. Sure you can figure it out on your own eventually on multiple playthroughs/savestates and you might get lucky with one questline the first time. But completely blind with no guide? Just not knowing the progression points can completely ruin a quest line.

I love the game but here are a few things that annoyed me:
    1) Not enough paired weapons and missing any that are two different weapons paired together like Farron.
    2) Health padding went nuts in the end game. It felt like I was getting pigeonholed into abusing status effects, poise-breaks or specific ashes to chunk bosses.
    3) Cut/Rushed content was more obvious than DS3 and DS1. Especially glaring with anything related to Frenzy and Crucible Knights
    4) Dexterity doesn't have synergy with Lightning despite the scaling and the only for it catalyst with dex stat is Frenzied.
    5) Int/Faith feels incomplete. Death Sorceries are cool but the incants are are extremely lacking.
    6) Armor doesn't feel meaningful in the late game unless you are going for specific poise numbers or resists

Yes, ER runs great, but so did DS3, Sekiro and BB. Again, I'm not saying the game is bad, it improves on the previous games in many respects, but for me personally it also loses things that made me love those games so much. We have to confront a hard truth that few people seem to want to face about the Souls games, but here it is: the combat is nothing remarkable. In terms of actual complexity there's not much going on. There's not much depth, and that wouldn't be a problem, except the series has increasingly leaned on its action elements more and more as time has gone by. If you're a staunch defender of the series this is where you might be tempted to rattle off all the attack animations your favorite weapons has... It's true that there are differences in range and damage, but the effect on the enemy is usually identical. They lose some health, possibly suffer some hitstun which either lasts long enough to get another attack in or it doesn't, in which case you go back on the defensive until your next opening. Positioning is important, but that's about the extent of it. In terms of defensive options the series is a lot better, with the ability to block, parry, or dodge most regular attacks... Unfortunately, against bosses, parrying is often completely impossible and blocking is often ill-advised, which leaves you with rolling as your one and only defensive action. So prepare to roll again and again, and again and again and again. When you're not rolling you'll generally be getting 1-2 hits in with whatever weapon you choose, hits that usually provoke no response from the boss whatsoever making every weapon basically the same thing apart from whatever damage types and numbers it has. You go in, you learn the moveset. maybe you die a few times along the way, until you know the boss's moves like the back of your hand. Then you dodge past them, punish at the right times, and win the battle. It's perfectly serviceable gameplay but doing it 20x in one game is just excessive. I'm not saying you should be able to juggle Hollows or anything, but if the game is going to be so relentlessly focused on action then I have fewer reasons not to just play a better action game.

Footsies are king, and souslikes are those in spades. Playing a from game and a character action game is like going from samsho to MvC3, you're rewarding inwards pattern memorization where you just wombo combo an enemy instead of actually engaging him and his moveset beyond the first hit. Comparing it to MMBN, which I've been playing recently, soulslikes are the only genre that doesn't play like spamming broken navichips and program advances.

Despite this I still think the game is a very solid 9/10. The production quality is absurdly high for a game this big, and the main lore is clear enough to get you invested. A game like this would really benefit from a "diary" system where you can log npc dialogue, but at the same time discovering the lore by yourself would be half the fun.

Playing with friends and the shenanigans that come from it is the only reason I still tolerate Miyazaki's fetish for post apocalypse settings. At some point it would be neat to play through a world as varied and fascinating as a Souls game world when it hasn't fallen apart yet and there's actually characters who do more than appear briefly three times then die.

Technical issues (capped at 60 FPS, it only supports 16:9 resolutions, it still stutters on Windows, it runs like shit for how bad it looks, low-res textures).

Inoffensive repeated content... some of which would be relatively easy to fix. Why does every single mine shares the same entrance? Why did they copy/paste the fricking Tree Spirits a million times, instead of enemies that are actually fun to fight?
I understand they can't create unique content for every single dungeon in the game... but it's like they didn't even attempt to hide it.

Offensive repeated content. Godefroy, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING. Astel, WHY?! These pissed me off, I'd rather have another Tree Spirit.

    Shit UI and control scheme.

Power scaling, but I don't know what they could do to fix this. It's an issue every single RPG shares. Basically, if you explore like the game wants you to, you become way to strong. If you reach Margit after you explore the rest of the map, you annihilate him. Also, if you're high level and you find a low level dungeon, you kill the boss in three hits.
The lore implications are a bit weird as well. Why is enemy X in Limgrave so much weaker than the same X enemy in an end-game zone. Again, this would also be pretty easy to fix: a recolor. Which they did a few times, with the red albinaurics for example.

Uninteresting quests and characters, with few exceptions.

No consequences for your actions. You can become a Ranni simp, a dragon heart eater, a tarnished killer (for both Mohg and Rykard), and an undead hunter... all at the same time. No one gives a frick outside of the characters directly involved in that quest.
The only quest with consequences is the Shabriri one, Melina gets mildly annoyed. But zero gameplay consequences, you can still level up even if you lose your maiden.

It could use more enemy variety, particularly in the boss/mini-boss department.
Certain bosses also practically require cheese tactics, which doesn't feel good.
Armor could be more relevant beyond poise break points at the very highest weights.
Certain segments definitely suffered from what was obviously altered or cut late in the process.
Some weapons just aren't very fun, even if still viable.
Progression kind of fricked, leading to almost necessary grinding and, as mentioned before, cheese.
Too much platforming for a control scheme not suited for it.
Too much input reading shenanigans. Boss gimmicks are fine but enemies auto dodging every single spell, including those not even aimed at them from on the other sides of walls is a little much.
Certain enemies are just stupid, tedious bullshit.

But all that said it's overall still very fun and satisfying, worth playing and putting time into. Character quests are less bullshit in how easy they are to fail, even if some still need a guide. Most* any build is viable, offering variety; some are still 'better' but none Completely outclass others, let alone have any completely useless ones like older games. The Waifus are good too.

There should be more linked cave systems like the one in Atlus instead of hundreds of small caves that feel samey.
Mountaintop and Snowfield should've been combined into one smaller area and they feel way too empty for how big they are on the map.
Too many teleporters, especially towards the end of the game. It's immersion breaking that the only way to get to Rykard requires a teleporter in the same area.
    More weapon moveset variety.

    >So many endings but most of them have the same cutscene
    >Netcode is STILL F tier after over a decade and I hate it because multiplayer is so close to being fun
    >limiting multiplayer to 4 is lame as frick
    >arena is gay (it was never good in Dark Souls either)
    >Excellent design for an open world but it is still inferior to Dark Souls 1's intricate level design pre Lord Vessel
    >the armor design is across the board weaker than Dark Souls

That's a good critique. From's design philosophy on summoning was fine in Dark Souls but suffered when applied to the open world. The fact that you can decide to kill some throwaway open world "boss" like nightrider and then your cooperator gets ejected is just annoying. It just means if I'm doing open world coop I'm avoiding all those fights.

Literally no reason to do most of the content unless you want specific armor, weapons, items, spirit ashes, ashes of war, etc. Especially on repeat playthroughs, you gradually grab what you need, and then you blitz to whatever bosses you want to fight. I guess that can be considered a good thing for some, so it's not a completely worthless addition, but I find you really got to have a more intrinsic mindset to enjoy these smaller things.

The later part of the game is poorly balanced. Too much damage makes it hard to actually learn fights through trial and error like 99% of From bosses before, progress grinds to a halt when you're dead off of 1 or 2 mistakes and there will come a point where a fight is just a slog to learn.

My main gripe is that they gutted the invasion mechanic, so sheltered normies wouldn't complain about it. Except that they still complain about it, even with numerical advantage 100% of the time. So the good way to deal with that problem is to give PVE crybabies a way to play seamless coop without any risk to get invaded, and still let the other players get the hardcore, unadulterated PVP experience. I hope they'll fix that in some way in the expansion.

A lot of the lore is completely incoherent, feels like a flanderized version of souls/bb lore where lore aspects are intentionally muddied or poorly explained for the sake of being vague. DaS1 and BB are entirely comprehensible when you have all the information laid out, ER still has huge gaping holes (for example there is no consensus on what destined death even does and how death works in universe) in what should be basic information about the setting. Kinda getting tired of traditional souls "storytelling" where I don't give a single frick about anything or anyone since everything has gone to shit, give me more character driven kino like AC6 or Sekiro

    >Post your critiques of ER
The weapon upgrade system is the worst of any Fromsouls game
Too many upgrade materials are locked behind endgame content which ruins weapon experimentation and build variety in the early and midgame
While Elden Ring has the highest amount of boss fights out of all Fromsouls games it also has the worst boss fights
Some of the story bosses are pretty fun but most are kinda shit, this gets way worse once you get to optional dungeon bosses which are almost exclusively shit
The devs put a ton of effort into the crafting system and filled the world with materials, cookbooks and pots/urns. Then in a move of total moronation they hamstrung the entire crafting system by locking all good recipes behind high materials costs that make you run out of materials after just a few uses of each item and farming specific crafting items is too annoying to bother with
