I'm slowly building a collection and when i look for recs it's always the same shitty games that i either don't like or i already own like
>muh God of War
>muh Devil May Cry
>muh Call of Duty
A few games that are already in my wishlist are Shinobi, Gungrave Overdose and God Hand.

I got a slim PS2 last fall and have been messing with it since then. Getting a really good HDMI converter off Amazon made the games much more readable and I can totally suggest some weirder games:
Wild Arms 3 is a very interesting rpg with an underused setting that has some almost...paper mario esque puzzle-platforming that you normally wouldn't see in a JRPG.
Dark Cloud is a really fun roguelite that is almost educational to show off what that sort of game used to be like before the explosion of indie versions (The early game is a real fricking slog but it gets better)
Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance 1/2 is as far as I know the best diablo-like for the PS2.
Also just my 2 cents on modding: I went through the hassle to make an FMCB card and turns out all that really does is allow me to further open new options for exploits on the console. However, the simplest methods of playing pirated games on the console are also typically the shittiest while the most consistent involve network shenanigans or straight up buying a raspberry pi. If you have cash to spare just buy old games from retro stores or something and save yourself a few evenings and a lot of headaches.
I already have component cables and it makes the image much clearer, besides the HDMI ports on my TV are already taken up by my PS3 and PS4.
Not much of an RPG fan but i'll take note of those games.
Out of this list i already own MGS2: Substance, Jak 3, Gran Turismo 3 and 4, GTA Trilogy, and DMC Trilogy.
Really good recs anon, thanks!
Also a big fan of wrestling, working my way to collecting all wrestling games i can, including JP exclusives like King of Colloseum, and i already own the Smackdown series of wrassling games, still working on getting al SVR games.
get all the RE titles you can play, the camera takes getting used to for teh ps1 ones but it's worth it.
SOTN is good too.
RE games are pretty expensive, especially 2 for some reason(?
My local gamestore has put those for sale a lot times, and every single time they are sold out before i even have a chance to ask if he still has them in stock.
Heard of those games but i've never made proper research on them, might be about time to do so.
But muh physical games anon. Besides if i'm going for PS2 FPS' i'm going to buy Darkwatch and Black first and foremost.
Well that explains a lot, but honestly if i wanted to use ISOs i'd rather emulate on PC.
But why?
All these games have great PS4 versions?
>Wild Arms 3
>Dark Cloud
>Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance
>weirder games
You zoomers are fricking weird. All of these games sold over a million copies and had glowing reviews on release. Dark Cloud was even falsely advertized as a "Zelda killer", just because the main character sort of looks like Link. Wild Arms was also published by Sony itself back then and it was one of their premiere franchises.

>go to local gamestore to look at ps1 and PS2 games
>Oh, this common game that sold millions of copies? That'll be 40 dollars sir
Got ace combat 4 and 5 for a dollar each at least
My local store luckily sells PS1 and PS2 games for cheap, usually 5-10 dollars, it only really goes up in price for games like Symphony of the Night which seem to be eternally expensive.
>>muh Call of Duty
ps2 has call of duty?
frickin Wii has call of duty
yes but I just didn't know PS2 had any CODs, since it was popular before the big COD boost
You are digging your grave. COD was extremely popular among old and young people ever since 2 was released.
Black person I just thought it was on xbox in terms of consoles
CoD was popular from the beginning, since the WWII fps got popular with MoH.
Ever heard of Medal of Honor?
yes I know for sure that was on PS2
stuntman is a cool concept for a game and is one of the handful of titles that has a an unavoidable game ending emulation issue.
The sequel on the PS3 is good too.

My favorite PS2 game I spent so many hours making broken as frick potions that could buff me into a God or have their effects reversed to throw at people and knock them out for 4 hours.
also editing my hideout so the entire map was -20 below my hut and the dudes just jumped down and got fricked by traps
>Altered Beast
also on my wishlist, the problem is that since it was PAL exclusive i'd have to import it.
God Hand, Shinobi and Rygar already on my wishlist.
Yes, pic related
>FIFA Street
>Best Football game ever
That's a weird way of spelling FIFA Road to World Cup '98 but ok.
They released the original CoD on PS3 store btw
>Mentions Armored core Nexus
>Doesn't mention Armored core 3 and Silent line.
Awful, just awful.
My favourite obscure games during the PS2 era was R.A.D(Robot alchemic drive), Disaster report, .Hack vol1/2/3/4, Fifa Street(Best football game ever) and Gundam ZeonVSFederation.
Play Urban reign
Isn't that the beat 'em up game with Tekken characters? i'd honestly rather buy the Tekken FGs even if i don't like the series.
>If you liked GoW
Funny thing is i don't like GOW but i still buy the games for muh collecting, my biggest problem with the series is the constant QTEs for anything and everything.
>Isn't that the beat 'em up game with Tekken characters?
It's a brawler fighting. There is one Tekken character, it's a bonus character
Blood will tell is a hidden gem. If you liked GoW, give it a try
Hard Corps might be kino, but Shattered Soldier is ludo, I challenge you to put your Touhou's and your Celeste's down and 1CC THIS
Big fan of old school Contra games, didn't know they were making them up until the PS2 era, will give it a look.
Is it too expensive? if so i might emulate to give it a try before even attempting to buy it.
My local game store had it for sale a few months ago for roughly 30 dollars and i regret not buying it then because someone else bought it less than a week later.
You're actually buying? The lasers are on borrowed time, and you should look into a FMCB memory card and your preferred LAN-crossover/laptop/external HD setup of choice
Anything that isn't Ratchet and Clank/ZoE-levels of complex emulates fine too
My favourite
people always give lists in this thread and they become impossible to get meaningful recommendations from
anyone can just go on Ganker recommended or backloggd or even fricking reddit and find lists just like these
talk about a specific game and at least why you like it even if you dont have much to say.
anyways, id recommend way of the samurai. really fun and unique choice-driven action series. it's pretty refreshing to play a simpler game where choices actually matter when you usually have to play something with a bit more complexity to get meaningful choices. 1 & 2 are some of favorite ps2 games.
i was able to get it for $20 a few years ago. i doubt the price has increased much
Both Maximo's are the one and only time Capcom rebooted GnG in a way that wasn't just remaking SGnG yet again
Black
Area 51
RAD
Ring of Red
Steambot Chronicals
Zone of the Enders 1+2
Shadow Hearts 1+2
PSy Ops
Castlevania - Lament of Innocence
The majority of Armored Core titles
Front mission 4+5
Extermination (Basically B movie RE4)
Onimusha
Black and Onimusha are already on my wishlist too, i'm just waiting to see a good deal for either.
I already have Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness (with the OST CD aswell!!! pic related)
I'll take note of the rest of the games.
I've seen it at my local gamestore and i honestly thought it was just shovelware, doesn't help that i'm not all that interested in Lord of the Rings
What's wrong with Front Mission 3?
LoTR The Third Age
>smirks; pushes glasses up
You'll come to find out the best console Treasure shmup was NOT on the Gamecube
SILPHEED?
And seed
Looks good, adding that to the list.

Way Of The Samurai 2

fun game
Just mod your console for fricks sake. Dealing with $100 scratched discs and dying lazers when you can just copy and paste the whole library to run perfectly off a SSD is mental illness.
Scratched disks should not be an issue unless they are gouged out.
>Be me, get together like 5 scratched discs from collection
>Go on ebay and look up disc buffing service
>Pay something like $20 for everything
>Discs come back perfectly fine
you can get some expensive games in acceptable condition and do the above and increase the games value by double in some cases.
Jak & Daxter, and the rest of the trilogy
Killzone (never played more than 1 but that was a fun game)
Need for Speed Most Wanted and Carbon were also good.
Also already have Killzone no manual tho
Need for Speed is one of those series i couldn't get into, i'm more of a Burnout guy.
I already have Jak 3, i hope my local store stocks those games soon, otherwise i'm gonna have to buy them online.
>You're actually buying?
Yes, i'm collecting these games for the most part, big fan of physical media. I've replaced the laser for my PS2 slim a couple of times now but since i'm into tinkering with electronics anyways i don't find it to be an issue.
There's a page listing compatibility of all games with OPL and games on USB are dodgy for the most part; a lot of games that work perfectly fine on a HDD don't work at all on USB drives for literally no reason.
I'm down to write anything down and work out my priorities later, the more obscure games the better.
never heard of Way of the Samurai, looking online copies are 50$+ is it a rare game or something?
Disc rot is starting to hit this particular generation slowly but surely, and I've already had a bunch of perfect-looking games just stop reading on assorted consoles, you're gonna be paying out the ass for more niche stuff because in addition to the price of what's a mostly scratch-free disc, you also pay for the fact game discs everywhere are flipping a coin on if they got pressed with Taiyo-Yuden stock or not
If you have 360-era Verbatim discs that you paid out the ass for under the assurance they'd survive forever, you should try popping them in sometime, that AZO dye doesn't even last fricking 10 years, blank media QC took a global dive the last decade, and it's going to get worse
Not him, is disk rot something to do with your environment? Somehow I've never run into a game with disk rot despite owning PS1 and Saturn games.
It's one of the drawbacks with retro games but i'm willing to take the risk because i'm way too autistic to not own physical media.
OP here, play Gungrave, stupidly expensive for what was a budget title at launch. The game itself looks gorgeous and it's a quick completion, probably 4 hrs on your first playthrough.
>don't work at all on USB drives for literally no reason.
The reason is that it uses an ancient form of USB and the read speed is slower than the disc drive read speed. Even the memory card slots have faster read. If you have a Slim, the best way to play games on it is either to do the mechapwn exploit to make it read burned discs, or do a network share.
The Jak and Daxter trilogy and the first 3 Spyro games.ATV offroad fury is also another classic, it used to come prepackaged in the original PS2 FATs
Currently using a softmodded ps2 with games on a USB drive. FMVs are a mixed bag. Sometimes they play fine, other times the cutscene stutters for the first 10 seconds then smoothly. Other times it just lags the whole way through. Does a LAN set up fix this?
EXTREMELY, get off of USB, it's painful just like Xbox USB loading because it's unpolled 1.0, there will never be a good USB solution because of it, and LAN loading is pretty instantaneous
Game tax: if you liked FFT, but at the same time wish it was more like Lodoss and that one of the finest hentai artists of the 90's worked on it, find the Growlansers, then realize you should just start working on a LAN loader when you realize what the market is currently like for PS2 games
Mercenaries
God hand but it's expensive
I'm getting a hdd setup working on my ps2, I have a few physical discs that I'll play but any recommendations for hard to find/annoyingly expensive games to put on the hard drive?
the .hack games are excellent. very rare physical now and they go for a lot
Get Motorstorm Arctic Edge that game is fun and i have good memories with it

The collection, from Medal of Honour to Conflict, were my dad's PS2 library. He is boomer, born in the early 60s but he read alot of books on WWII and other conflicts because my Granddad and Great Uncle saw service. The latter was in Tunisia in the British Army, while the former was a Cook in the RAF.
I regret getting The Red Star, a streets of rage like game based on a Graphic Novel set in an alternate world where there is a Futuristic analogue of the Soviet Union, The United Republics of the Red Star. I heard the comic was good.
The graphics are shit, but I spent hours and hours tweaking and playing FPR. I actually played the game though. I'm autistic enough to really enjoy a 2D wrestling game, but not enough to watch the AI fight. It has 8p v
