PS5 is SMASHING sales records

>biggest Q3 PlayStation has ever had
>PS5 selling so much that Sony increased already lofty forecast from 18m to 19m
>30% of active PS5 users never owned PS4
>PS sales up 53% YoY (Xbox sales down 13% YoY for comparison)
How the FRICK is the PS5 selling so well? You would think between the rise of PC gaming and Xbox buying up studios that it wouldn't be the case.

Normalgays literally don't care about games, they just want to have the latest Playstation for the sake of having the latest gayming console in their living room.
They might play TLoU2 and nuGoW and that's it.

All Sony needs to do now is find a way to get all their PS4 owners to move to PS5, but that's not going to be easy since all these new games are still going on PS4 these days.

It's always been available, just not for the msrp. In my country I could easily get one for 800 at any point since launch, and it still costs that much from official retailers despite Sony saying that the shortages are over. How much does it cost at Wallmart?

        Anonymous

I've never found a Physical store selling it above MSRP. There were Online store selling it above MSRP because they are buying it from scalpers to ship to you. Whoever fell for that shit were complete fricking idiots.

32 million sales after 2 years and an extra holiday period on the market is not impressive. This means that in its first 2 years it sold 25 million, or 12.5 million per year. It better start picking up fast or it's gonna have a tough time reaching 80 million.

  16. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

Yet they don't call it the fastest selling so they're obviously selling PS5s slower than the PS4. They can hide it by mixing PS4/5 software sales but I bet this gen they end up sub 100million systems sold.

      Anonymous

Remember how they had to drop "fastest selling console" after less than a year, losing not just to the Switch but the fricking GBA after 10 months?

        Anonymous

It's tracking 5 million or 25% below the switch so far, and it's definitely not getting the late covid surge the switch got. I'd expect 70-80m lifetime depending on how aggressively they're willing to drop the price.

It is slightly behind the PS4 only due to supply constraints. But as soon as supply became available it has been selling gangbusters. Reminder that the PS5 was being scalped and sold for $1000, and also got a price *increase* in most regions.

          Anonymous

Of course it's selling a lot right now, that's pent up demand from the undersupplying. But they are really gonna struggle to make up the lost momentum long term.

A console typically sells well for about 4 years before it starts tanking, and it's already more than 2 years old. They will likely continue to have supply issues next year after dumping stored up stock for the holidays. You also have to consider that a lot of PS5 "owners" right now are likely scalpers who will eventually dump their unit onto the market whether that be for a profit or not.

All of this leads to the PS5 probably continuing to struggle for the next 2 years, at which point we're so late in its life that sales will start dropping off as consumer interest starts to wane, and attention starts being put on future products like the switch 2. For Sony to have a good generation I think they would to essentially relaunch the PS5 with a new unit replacing the current one and extend the generation to 8 or 9 years.

      >but I bet this gen they end up sub 100million systems sold.
Sub 100m is guaranteed at this point. There's no fricking way they hit that with the slow ass start. Even 90m is gonna be hard.

I don't get why people say "no games" unironically. PS5 is basically getting every single relevant game coming out; I bet vast majority of people saying this shit haven't even played a single game in the last six months that didn't release on PS4/PS5. Xbox has literally zero exclusives and everything launches Day1 on PC, Switch has literally zero exclusives since everything can be emulated. PS5 has a half dozen pure exclusives then dozens more that are only on PS4/PS5, and all PS4 games play at higher res and framerate on PS5.

The only real alternative to a PS5 is a PC, which is too expensive or too much hassle for the average player who wants to just have couch plug and play.

When we say "No Games" we mean "No *First Party* Games", because all they have are the same movie games reskinned.

        morons here always forget that
        >normals do not have a PC and do not want a PC. If they have a computer, it's a MacBook and not for gaming.
        >normals DO care a lot about muh specs and graphics quality, and the fact that PS5 releases may also be on PS4 is irrelevant.
        >normals do not give a shit about whether something is exclusive or not. All that matters is "can it play GTA, CoD, and Sportsball?" and "is it the one all my friends are getting?"
This is why PlayStation will basically be de facto successful until they massively frick something up.
