what the frick was up with soul hackers 2

Not even Atlus wanted to release it but Ishida (the director) and SEGA went full cope
      https://news.denfaminicogamer.jp/interview/221221a
      >Mr. Kagawa :I was worried until the release... There are people on the Soul Hackers team who think that Soul Hackers should be like this, and I think they'll say things like, "Are you okay with this?" , Indeed, even on the developer side, we have always had the conflict of ``Is it okay to release this?''.

that's a nice article thank you very much
so like fans have been asking for a soul hackers remake but what they deliver is totally different because they had to update it for modern audiences
they are damn lucky there's like 3 soul hackers fans in the whole world because soul hackers 2 was a fricking insult to anyone who expected something akin to the original game

Soul Hackers 1 was actually pretty popular in Japan since they actually got the PSX and Saturn versions back in the day and in general, Japanese Megami Tensei fans are around the 40 year old group and there's few younger fans over there. Needless to say, SH2 was doomed from the very start.

It has been pretty devastating to see the team crash this hard. Imagine going from Strange Journey to Tokyo Mirage Sessions to Soul Hackers 2.

Is tms better than sh2? Is it fun?

It's fun, but you basically have to take it as it's own thing that may share similarities to the core combat of SMT and had some FE references, but if you expect one or the other, it will be a huge dissapointed. The plot and setting are also mid tier Anime, between a Sentai and Magical Girls in an Idol Setting, which sounds like a trainwreck and can't blame anyone from bouncing out of it, but if you have high tolerance for anime tropes you can endure it and even find some charm. Not gonna lie, as I play more SMT games, I can't imagine who even is the target audience for that game, but it is fun of it's core mechanics and even the dungeon crawling. But very simplistic, at best a bizarre entry point to the SMT combat system.

I think it's better than SH2 but they share some similarities when it comes to the core loop. I guess the big bad thing for me was both games having grinding for monster drops to upgrade your characters. It was pretty dull and that kind of grind doesn't really serve SMT imo. Overall I think TMS still has the upper hand because the dungeon design is pretty decent (whereas in SH2 it's nearly nonexistent, just your most basic Wizardry-esque grid based dungeons but in 3rd person) and the music is great. SH2 has some OK tracks but it's very repetitive. Sessions and Sabbath are an attempt to evolve demon co-op but both systems only serve to make the gameplay more tedious.

Good idea, shit execution. As much as I'm okay with Idol shit, putting that in a game touted as a crossover between Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem was completely irrelevant.

I loved SMT V....but honestly I just didn't feel soul Hackers 2, the talkie bits were fricking bad, the Owl Mascot was annoying as hell and the combat feels like a castrated version of the press turn system

I disagree with everything you said. Thought the combat was the
Most balanced turn based combat I have ever experienced. The story of the covenant and how ringo and figue both came from aion was amazing.

Nah it was kinda garbo, I kinda felt they wanted to go for an Embryo tribe vibe for the group, but it came off as pure anime cringe

Hey I liked digital saga as well. I still think SH2 was a great game

I'm so fricking mad that Atlus wasted a frick ton of resources re-texturing every single demon in SH2 when you don't even get to see them in your party, the worst part is that all of that work could've gone into making more demon models for SMTV instead.

They already had a perfectly fine third pillar with Etrian Odyssey before they potentially killed the series by releasing overpriced remasters of the DS games. I imagine they underperformed and the devs lost even more money by licensing Denuvo for it.

      SH2 is literally SOUL

Love this game like you wouldn't believe. Literally ludokino of the highest order.

I don't understand the hate. Sure, the story was 200 IQ and the game in itself had a lot of cut corners, but it is still ludokino.

I remember I checked out my local Gamestop and they had that a used copy for SH2 at 20 bucks, the lowest I've seen a (used) game for a next-gen console go so low.
Im sure they just wanted to squirt out a game to see what new devs could accomplish.
I almost take pity on SH2, its an "okay" RPG but it feels like a game that wants its own thing but then its tied down into being a Soul Hackers "sequel" for the few fans out there.
The characters, the world, the story, the combat, the style; All can be so much more and yet it doesn't reach that point of being Good despite having quite the budget and next-gen specs, its just "okay", at least the music's good though, SMT almost never misses with that.

SMTV is dead, they didn't expect it to sell well and they rushed the game out

When they announce the whatever tittle they gave to the enhance edition for Switch 2. And jokes aside, I would double dip on this game without second thought. I already enjoy it a lot as it is, even with little to nothing extra content, playing with a framrate about 20 is worthy enough for me.

Quality wise it's best Megaten. It's actually bizarre how much better it looks than P5 and SH2 and yet is condemned to the fricking switch. Atlus is truly incomprehensible

      Same as I said here

When they announce the whatever tittle they gave to the enhance edition for Switch 2. And jokes aside, I would double dip on this game without second thought. I already enjoy it a lot as it is, even with little to nothing extra content, playing with a framrate about 20 is worthy enough for me.

I fully believe it will be ported on to more powerful hardware later, but I also think is being hostage to the announcement of Nintendo's next console. Still, if anything a PC port is the safest bet, even above the PS5 one.

Currently playing Soul Hackers 2, game is generic and it's nothing compared to SMTV. A PS5 port with better res/framerate and deeper draw distance would be amazing.

    >finally put Persona on all modern consoles/PC
    >SMT is so contrastingly irrelevant they still keep it, including the best-selling newest entry, exclusive to Nintendo like before except for the one game that wasn't that one time
If Nocturne and Persona say anything, regardless of the former remaster's quality, more people deserve to play Megaten games.
