Quake demake- 13kB

It's smallest game I have ever seen.
Smaller than Super Mario.

No, it just used modern function calls and clever procedural renders.

Can someone explain in lame man's terms how is this even possible?

Code takes up almost no space and computers are fast enough now to brute force computations in real time computers 30 years ago had no hope of achieving.

a great deal of the code in an old dos game like quake is stuff for handling the video modes, polygon rasterisation, sound mixing, networking, etc. When all of that is provided by the browser (and you skip networking entirely) then you get to save massive amounts of code. And a significant chunk of quake's level file size was the BSP tree that helped the depth sorting and occlusion algorithms run on a 486 which I'm guessing they just didn't bother reimplementing because a modern webgl can just render every surface all the time and not sweat it.
But 13kb is a bit of a cheat. The demoscene had this argument a long time ago when they had 4kb, 16kb and 64kb demo competitions. When windows and direct3d became commonplace people would submit 64kb full 3d demos and old school coders would get angry, because it's only 64kb because it relies on 200mb of OS libraries to function whereas the old demos were fully self contained in 64kb apart from maybe 100 bytes of BIOS functions necessary to init the VGA.

Funny how 5800X3D has 96MB of cache memory.
Bet some old school demo scene programmer could make an entire operating system working with only using the L3 cache as ram.

that reminds me there's ramdisk software but what about cachedisk?

Doesn't feel cheating at all, it's just smart way of coding.
