Not dealing with that shit, and no, I'm not gonna play some stupid card minigame for magic instead.

Explain this theory to me. She turns evil because Squall doesn't frick her or what?

      Anonymous

      - Ultimecia went insane and killed everyone because she was persecuted for being a sorceress.
      - People are going to fricking hate sorceresses after the end of the game and blame them for all their trouble, as showcased in Esthar.
      - Sorceresses have indefinite lifespan, which means Rinoa is going to outlive everybody, into an age where no one remembers what she did.
      - GFs feed on memories, meaning that Rinoa is eventually going to forget what she did as well (especially if she is going to need to protect herself).
      - The way Ultimecia travels to the past is through 'Junction Machine Elonne', which obviously functions the same way the Laguna flashbacks do. Gaining control of that power requires her and Elonne to live in the same age.

It just all lines up really well. Especially considering Ultimecia's final words. She just wanted to return to her childhood and live out her past with Squall. And she succeeded - by creating a time loop, their love has been named eternal.

Adel ruled Esthar 20 years ago, came to rule it 'long before that', and she doesn't seem to be in her forties. It's kind of obvious from the sorceress gauntlet at disc 4 that sorceresses aren't really human.
Though, it is true that Rinoa says her powers would be 'eventually passed onto Ultimecia', so she at least thinks she's going to die of old age.

The claim is that "Sorceresses have indefinite lifespan" and the only evidence submitted so far is "Adel looks good for her age", which is an opinion rather than supported by anything in game. Again, it's all pure speculation.

                Anonymous

Doesn't Adel disprove the idea that sorceresses are immortal? I thought she was searching for someone to pass her powers down to because she knew she was dying soon.

                Anonymous

"Indefinite lifespan" is not the same as "immortal."

Adel was looking, QUICKLY, for ANYONE to pass her powers on to because she had already been killed. She was a literal zombie who wanted to move on into the afterlife due to the pain and suffering she was going through after her murder, but literally couldn't because her powers still possessed her: she needed to pass on her powers before she could pass away.

Which she did pass her powers and she did immediately pass away.

The internet is astonishing for how much morons feel they're validated. The immaturity is just outrageous.

        - Nothing suggests sorceresses have indefinite lifespans.
        - Sorceresses don't actually need GFs because they can use their powers without them. Rinoa would have no need to use them constantly and would eventually regain her memories.
        - Adding onto the above, this requires Ultimecia to remember her childhood and being persecuted but nothing in-between.
        - Junction Machine Ellone is a machine based on Ellone that exists in the future. Ellone being alive in the same period isn't required at all.

          >- Nothing suggests sorceresses have indefinite lifespans.
It's in the dialogue about the nearly omnipotent source of their power, Hyne.

          >Sorceresses don't actually need GFs
True. But they can create them, and both Rinoa AND Ultimecia (both sorceresses) are rare occurrences of sorceresses who have literally junctioned Guardian Forces. How oddly similar!!!

          >Adding onto the above, this requires Ultimecia to remember her childhood and being persecuted but nothing in-between.
          "Demented."
An elderly person with dementia doesn't "forget everything." They "forget chunks." Long-term, short-term, there's a ton of variation. Like... oh! Junctionoing GFs!

          >Junction Machine Ellone is a machine based on Ellone that exists in the future.
Correct, but it is NOT fully-powerful (as powerful). So, Ultimecia uses it to go back as far as she needs until she reaches when Ellone (the person "Junction Machine Ellone" is based on).
          >Ellone being alive in the same period isn't required at all.
To go back to THE BEGINNING OF ALL TIME? Yes. Yes she is.
And guess what? Ellone is DEAD in the future (shocking, I know). But she's NOT DEAD in Squall/Rinoa's era (shocking, I know)!

          I'm going to work. Bye.

I wouldn't say torpedoed. to this day we don't know what the original draft for ff8 was before square decided to turn it into jpop shonen.
the only thing we know for sure is that square can't into time travel theorizing and it shows because the ending is foreboding as frick.
rinoa being ultimecia makes sense from a storytelling perspective because the games is an incoherent mess with tons of implications that lead nowhere.
it's also more interesting than the happy ever after they went with which is physically bound to go terribly wrong.
