It's weird though because i never had to change a single default setting in RE7, REmake 2, REmake 3 or RE8. For REmake 4 i was changing FOV, i was turning off the screen blood effect when Leon is in Danger, changing the controller layout so that 180 turns are on the crouch button and not a trigger button, lots of fucking around to make it play half way decently.

The original is definitely easier even on Pro mode. The kick was just way too strong and you could even knockdown salvador with it. I tried the regular tactics on this and got swarmed immediately.

I liked the graphics. The only part I loved of the original RE4 was the village. Then it got kinda average, then it turned to straight dogshit (the island). So I appreciate the demo for letting me play the village again with nicer graphics, but it's a no buy. I already know what to expect from this game and I'm not interested in doing it all again.

There's literally a setting in the menu to adjust the VRAM allocation. And it's not just texture quality, I did a bunch of comparisons and nothing changes at all.
I'd just chalk it up to lack of optimization, hopefully the final release runs better for you.

That setting is pure VRAM allocation, if you have a 12GB card and set it to max of course you'll have issues since you simply won't have enough memory. But yeah it's just lazy on Capcom's part, every nu-resident evil had a setting like this, something the game itself should be handling.

I hate how the character moves. I hate the aiming too but that might be because it's been a very long time since I played on controller. Whoever made the knife breakable needs to be fired. Otherwise pretty good 8/10.
the knife is repairable. It basically just has ammo like every other weapon, so now you actually have to think about which enemies are worth using the knife on. Most likely small encounters are worth using knife ammo on so you can save your pistol and shotgun ammo.
The parry uses a lot of knife meter because its fucking broken and spammable. In fact you can parry everything by mashing and you can even cancel animations with a parry

Feels less arcade-y than the original, which is why I think people don't like it as much. It's no longer just a shooting gallery. The enemies are unpredictable and thus actually threats. It used to be like playing Tetris, where you can see the terror approaching and you have to deal with it one piece at a time. Now it feels much more hectic and uncontrolled. I personally really liked it, but there are some jankiness issues that I've experienced where I get grabbed out of nowhere or my shot goes through an enemy and such when it really should have connected.

You can't stealth the village beyond a back route. You trigger a fight no matter what.
Which begs the question why the fuck they implemented that shitty system in the first place.
You can sneak kill some ganados managed to tour the village except the door where you continue after the horde cause there is one sentry in the middle

And that's just from popping it open finding something within 10 seconds. It seemed unlikely that the English lines would be made independent of the Japanese in the first place.

The original RE4 has way less jokes in the original JP version - shit like Luis creeping on Ashley and a lot of Leon's one-liner jokes were added by the English localization team. In the JP script, Leon is sarcastic, but he's noticeably more depressed and grim, and you can more easily tell he's traumatized by the events of RE2.
Hence why Leon is like this in RE6 and most of the CG movies. It's his default characterization, RE4's English localization just misled fans. It's actually the outlier.

That said, he does leave out the "Bingo" line in Japanese, but it seems more likely to be because the JP translation is not literal, rather than a conflict of visions. If it's anything like other Capcom games around the same time, the lead devs would have collaborated directly on the English lines.

When you're surrounded by 5+ enemies and you're trying to block attacks. Leon shouldn't be slowly putting his gun away then taking what feels like 6 years to pull out a knife which is needed to block incoming damage. I hate to say it since REmake 3 was too short to consider as a good resi game however since the devs thought removing the dodge button from REmake 3 was a good idea which it wasn't instead we got two dedicated run buttons what a fucking great idea, the delay between the animation is done well however I expected him to play like a US operative and not someone who's slower than his REmake 2 rookie cop version. That guy could switch weapons like he was on crack cocaine. Also the shotgun did fuck all damage when compare to the shotgun in the old resi 4 which was a god damn artillery cannon that could shit death on any fucker stupid enough to stand in it's way.

For some reason I didn't notice the game was full screen and not on borderless window so it was running at like 55 fps instead of smooth 60 when I knew my PC could handle it, so I fixed that after not being retarded, played it again after fucking with some settings. It feels great, but aiming still feels a bit weird. The knife stuff is alright, I hope in the final game you can earn Leon's original knife or something as a cool throwback.
It does feel different from the original but it's probably one of those cases where the more you play it and get rid of old habits, the more you'll flow with the gameplay and just naturally move around. I have so much old muscle memory from og re4 that it fucks with me, I keep trying to melee spam and get myself cornered because the hitboxes were reduced as well as the i-frames from them, so if you just sit there and wait for them to group up so you can hit 5+ enemies with a kick, you'll more than likely get fucked after if you don't crowd control. So the nerf to melee means the game will be more difficult than the original by nature. Unless of course some other broken shit is found or something, but for now I say it's a solid 8/10. I hope ALL THE CONTENT is in the final release and they didn't cut anything out.

Its nicely put together but I can tell its not for me. I really dislike action games where its better to run away than eliminate all enemies. I hated RE2make for it and I can tell this is going the same way. There is lack of clarity in when you are supposed to fight and when not, its worse than in the original because there are more scripted setpieces. The lack of laser sight is a huge deal for me. Leon feels somehow more sluggish. Environments are overly cluttered. You can tell they're making it retard-proof too. The visceral feel of popping heads and knocking enemies down from shotty blasts is missing. The roundhouse kick and knife feel better which is nice. I'll get it later down the line when I have nothing else to play, as originally planned.

It's basically a necessity because Leon isn't as nimble, there's a lot more enemies at once, and the hitbox for the melee attacks is smaller and doesn't let you take down a whole ass group in front of you like the original. I got swarmed by like 6 of them and my kick only knocked down three directly in front of me, the others were just slightly off to the side and then grabbed me.
I assume the smaller melee attacks are there to compensate for the fact that you basically can't miss with them anymore. Leon kicked while planted in place and it could miss in the original, while in the remake he slides towards enemies to hit them.

If you time it poorly you lose more durability. If you perfectly time it you can get a follow up melee attack and the durability cost is less. Learn to play or fuck off and pay the fee.
I like that the resolution can be set so that it has the letterboxing from the original, that's a neat touch. Makes the cutscene at the start look like shit though.

Yeah but you want to get close to the enemies anyway to do melee attacks so it really won't matter much, plus you get the laser attachments later on.
It just doesn't really seem like a very good mechanic for the game. It SORTA worked in RE2R, but it seems like a really poor fit for this game. One thing I liked about RE4 was that you could do basically any playstyle you wanted, but these kind of mechanics really railroad you in to playing a certain way.

The entire game is a string of normal combat sections. There's only a few sections where you're expected to survive a horde attack.

I never been up the tower myself, i knownit exists but for me its rushing to the shotgun house, jumping out the window and them up there. Usually by the time in swarmed to the point i have to jump off, its already over and usually destroy the chainsaw guy while hes trying to jump over the window still

8/10, Parrying stuff is nice and the way kicking works is pretty much spot on to the original in terms of utility (the UI for it is a bit obnoxious, the OG had some big text for it but kept it all at the bottom of the screen).
The whole thing does feel like they've shortened it up a bit, like it's someones vague memory of how the opening goes (going into the mans house, that little section with the traps that no longer has them for some reason, the village itself) and I hope that isn't indicative of the rest of the game. I didn't mind the movement but I think I need to play more parts of the game to know whether it will frustrate me or not. One thing that really bothered me is how fucking slow it is for your reticle to full tighten up, I get the feeling this is probably something that you will get to upgrade but it somehow feels slower than the other games that have had this feature.

I wouldn't say the kicking works the same. It's a minor thing, but Leon automatically closing in on enemies makes it a bit less versatile than in the original. I'll see if I can find the webm of the original kick.
Yeah that's fair, I was moreso talking about you being able to use it to knock over a bunch of enemies clumped together and being able to use it for invulnerability
That was surprisingly easy to find. Again, it's not a dealbreaker or anything, but originally the player had a lot more control over the kick, meaning you could position how you want, which had its uses. But also just spamming the button meant you might not miss people you'd normally want to include in the hit. There's just less player agency in the newer melee, which is good for most players, but I'm not a fan.
It could be something where they wanted to make them more uniform with something like HUNK's neck snap where that always goes into a canned animation

At this point I'm mainly curious about the Krauser fight and changes with Luis. From what I could tell in the gameplay, there was two other sections where you fight alongside him that wasn't the cabin, one being the minecarts.
The first Krauser fight will be after Louis dies (Krauser kills him, I guess) and it'll be just knife slashes + parry.
I counted at least three, there's the section right after the cabin where you choose between the two different paths, you see him kicking over someone in the area with the Chainsaw sisters, the fight against the two El Gigantes, and the minecart sequence which looks like you will borrow his Red9 since it had infinite ammo in that part, I hope that doesn't mean the Red9 is a NG+ weapon or something you can only get after he dies or something stupid like that

No, the game is too polished. It feels like a clean, safe, sanitary, reliable AAA-grade corporate project, made to appeal to as many people as possible. The issue is that the industry standard "polish" is uninspired and repetitive. It's nice, but makes every game look and feel the exact same. Play more games to see what I mean. The shitty quirks are what make games unique. The RE4 remake is just "dark atmospheric third person survival shooter #37". I've played too many video games.
