When it's properly implemented it's alright
        Also this
realism is impressive from a technological standpoint, but is boring as frick otherwise.

It really depends on the game and your card. AMD pays more tax generally because the patchwork RT implementations are built with nvidia in mind
You can see a 7800XT running that Avatar game at native 1080 ultra just fine, and that game apparently doesn't let you turn off RT

The technology is just no ready yet. Huge performance impact and the games that do it well can probably be counted with one hand. Even then not every scene is improved by it.

SSR completely falls apart if you give it more than a glance in motion
my favourite is when shit "reflects" that absolutely shouldn't be visible

one of these images is SSR the other is RT
SSR fps is 120, RT is 40.

luxury cars are trash, an old toyota from the 80s is better than most "luxury" cars that break after 3 years

you can get equal if not even better results with baked lights but only in games with limited level design and not open world. For everything else Global illumination is magic and in the future there will be just that

Open World/Large Zone games can cheat, DQ11 does it by panning up to the sky when it's time for time to tick over to the next "state", altering the light profile and rearranging NPCs. It's a bit jarring but it works.

Gpus stopped improving at the same price and there is a limit to the amount people will pay for a gpu. There is no additional headroom to just shave off half your fps. It is not going to be the future of anything.

one of these images is SSR the other is RT
SSR fps is 120, RT is 40.

Screenspace looks like dogshit when the camera moves, it works by flipping and displacing the view frustum (i.e. what the camera sees) onto the reflective surface, which has major drawbacks as that's not how a reflection work - it causes distortion and ghosting/vanishing of the reflected objects from simple camera movements. For example, if the camera is pointing down then objects reflected above disappear from the reflective surface entirely, which makes no sense. Even fricking cubemaps are better, SSR is awful.

The only game that looks better with rtx is metro exodus and developers invested a lot of effort into it
Most developers see rtx as an easy way to save effort
In our sad reality, rtx is how a game should look and non-rtx is the inferior version
And that doesn't mean rtx is better
It means that developers just didn't give a frick
