I tried to get a buddy to play RE4 for YEARS, he just bitched like “I don’t play old games” and I don’t even want to recommend the remake because it seems to completely butcher the tone of the original

how could then have followed up RE4 with the atrocious 5 and 6? what happened exactly?
6 was obviously inspired by call of duty and other action spectacle games. 5 was surprisingly close to the vision of 4, just poorly made in every single way + coop meme. But if you play 5 you can at least see everywhere how the game tries to be like RE4, the devs just didn't know what made RE4 truly good. With 6 they just literally wanted to make an action movie game. You can watch interviews for RE6 and the devs will literally state how they have made parts of the game to resemble famous movie scenes.

but 5 is still a bit of a mystery to me because of the complete lack of inspiration it had (as far as I can recall)

I'm as well or else they would have remaked 5 as well instead cutting it out of the story canon.

nothing, which is why 5 also sucked. they adhered closely to the formula.
I give you an example that proves you wrong. In RE4 after skipping the intro you're immediately in the game, 2 minutes later you're at the village which is one of the highlights of the game. In RE5 they literally copied that part without understanding what made it good. First you have a 5 minute walking simulator part and 10 minutes you get to the village stand off part which is not nearly as good as it is in RE4.
The devs replicated these parts but they didn't make them good, they didn't make you immediately be in the game, they didn't make the sequences tight as fuck. In short they didn't implement the arcade feel of RE4.

These remakes are a reboot in a way they're bringing the full RE story into the modern era. I remember when people thought 7 was a reboot.
Resident Evil needs to stop draining Capcom's resources.
Fuck they've spent like a whole generation fiddling with games that already exist. Instead of making actually new games. Even with the actually new Resident Evil they made it really sucks how much they devote to Resident Evil. Even outside of videogames Resident Evil has its clutches on Capcom.
Also it's kind of awful how it's named Resident Evil outside of Japan instead of Biohazard.
It's basically being rebooted. Leon is younger in RE4R than he was in RE4. I think they're gonna fix the timeline so we don't have 70 year old Chris fighting zombies
Where did you get that from? Pretty sure Leon was about 27 in the original just like he is in the remake.

Is he literally younger as in RE4 remake doesn't play 6 years after RE2 any longer? Because I was under the assumption that the young teen gay face model they took for 2 which they are taking for 4 just doesn't fit and makes him look younger than he is.
