No one cares about you.
i know anon, that's why i want to talk about games and not myself.
Behold the one good Noah video, that's not a travelogue
thanks anon!!
>hasn't played They Hunger
I always hear about it, but i'm on the edge about trying it because of the horror inclination that it has. how good is it?
They Hunger is one of the oldest BIG Total Conversion mods for HL1. It was also created by THE PC Gamer magazine. It's mostly cheezy oldschool spooky-a-thon, essentially a Halloween piece.
>is afraid of monsters good,
It's all around more scary, more terrorizing and nightmarish than CoF.
It's obviously more HL1-like gameplay wise, but it is the game where CoF got most of its ideas. Same author, btw.
I recommend the later Director's Cut version over the 2005 original.
thanks anon for the reply, i appreciate the info
play swiss cheese halloween if you wanna suffer
ooh, i did not know of this one, thanks anon, it looks fun and scary
it's not really scary but it's fun to re-play it every october, has its charm
that's right, Halloween is coming, is a good time to play this kinds of games.
Afraid Of Monsters: Director's Cut
Cry Of Fear
They Hunger trilogy
Paranoia
i played cry of fear, is afraid of monsters good, since it was the game made before cry of fear i assumed that it was barebones.
Just to provide the opposite opinion, I wouldn't recommend Afraid of Monsters, especially if you've played Cry of Fear. The biggest downfall for me that I cannot forgive is that the game is pitch black all the time, but it still uses the stock HL1 flash light. It's fricking terrible and it makes the game unplayable for me. I've tried on several occasions and can never make it out of the hospital because I get sick and tired of having to stare at the floor like I'm speedrunning Goldeneye.
Field Intensity
this, it's probably better OpFor than OpFor
wow, that's high praise considering how good opFor is. I really need to try this one then. Thanks!!
Half-paynes decent if ya like running through vanilla half-life. comes with vr missions.
thanks anon, that reminds me that i have to play max payne too
There's a rubber chicken in half-payne if that matters
1. find a buddy
2. play the PC decay mod
there was a mod that recreated decay for the pc, nice i always wanted to play it. thanks anon
I only played echoes and though it was great
are there any other mods that get close to its level? I don't care for horror stuff, I just want more half life action
i think that some place else is really good, is a short and sweet mod. It's sequel minerva for hl2 is good too
You are such an underage moron. Sage and have a nice day.
BHL beta 3 when?
is brutal half life good? i don't see a point to the mod, unlike doom that for some really needed a modern coat of paint, that radically chances the gameplay, in the case of half life i don't see what would need to change. More guns are not needed, and the ones that are in the game sound good and are really useful, more gore doesn't seem necessary either, and if you are gonna put it in, then it would be nice if it was quake 2 style of gore, oh and damage shown in the enemies body.
>is brutal half life good?
No. It's even more tryhard than BD, and conflicts hard with its mood and style.
figured as much, such a shame, half life's mood is very important to the overall story, so one most be very careful with it. We aren't playing rambo here.
All it does is adding some better gun animations, akimbo mode and more detailed gore on enemies.
The core gamepaly remains the same but feels much better due to much improved feedback.
Literally not true in the slightest, at least play it before talking bullshit
there's a mod version of gunman chronicles
wow, it looks so cool, thanks anon, i added it to the list
iirc from when I tried it, it's a little unstable. be prepared for crashes that feel like they're completely at random past the halfway mark.
so i need to quick save a lot, got it
Brutal HL. Max Payne HL.
Try Half-Life Cthulhu, it's a really neat adventure if you're into Lovecraft stuff.
i love lovecraft, he is one of my favorite authors, thanks anon, i didn't know this existed, is on the list.
It's basically a "best of" kind of mod, instead of adapting some story it adapts like half of them into its own original one.
There's supposedly a remastered version, can't say if it is any good. I played an older one.
so is not just a call of Cthulhu game, that's even better, more so if they used some of the dream cycle material.
I don't think it has Dream-Cycle references, but it has a lot of stuff. Some Derleth-ish too, I think. I don't want to spoil anything because like half of the fun is realizing "oh shit, this is that one story".
that's a shame, but i'm exited to find out what stories does it take. thanks for the clarification anon.
play invasion
its comfy
comfy? say no more, is on the list, i need more comfy in my life
Point of View
Halfqauke trilogy (stick with it past the first one, it's really old and feels it)
halfquake is a recreation of quake in the goldsource engine? if it is then that's great, quake is one of my favorites shooters, i want more of that strange atmosphere.
no, that's a sven coop map series called Quake for Sven Coop
nice, i need to play sven coop too then.
Half-Life: Cthulhu is a bit amateur and can get pretty frustrating at times, but it's good fun.
They Hunger is classic, especially co-op!
Afraid of Monsters might be my favorite HL mod. Make sure you get the directors cut!
thanks for sharing your thoughts anon. Can i ask why is afraid of monsters your favorite?
TWHL Tower 1 and 2
They Hunger
Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut
Half-Quake Trilogy
Paranoia
Azure Sheep
Cry of Fear (now standalone)
Heart of Evil
Gunman Chronicles
Half-Rats
Cthulhu: An Unspeakable Mod
USS Darkstar
Half-Life: Zombie Edition
Swiss Cheese Halloween
Sven Co-Op to play all of the above with other Ganker autists
thanks for this amount of suggestions, i added the not repeated ones to the list. What is sven coop? i just thought it was half life original campaign with coop of more than 2 players. but you can play mods in it? that's amazing
You can play a ton of mods, but note that the majority of them have replaced models/sound effects and don't translate well to co op. They Hunger is good fun w a group
I'd recomend Base Defense, good shit to have a good time in short periods of time though it may be overshadowed by other mods
don't worry anon, it seems very fun, added it to the list
sweet half life is a neat single player mod
Gunman Chronicles?
some of my personal favorites I didn't see mentioned yet
Hazardous Course - very long and difficult but hilarious and has a shit ton of easter eggs
Peaces Like Us - weird but memorable sections
Hopelessness I and II - short but atmospheric
Artic Incident
ETC II
Sum
Half-Rats Parasomnia
wow, thanks for the thougth out suggestions anon. I love atmospheric mods, half life has the comfiest of atmospheres to me, with his graphics, tone and setting really blending into something special, so a mod of this game can only be really good in this department. Hazardous course is like the course in the base game but expanded and harder? like, more parkour and less combat, i'm down for it
parkour is right, there are some sections designed to be trialed and error'd because they are so overtly ridiculously difficult, but the design and many secret levels abroad are a good hook to keep going. enjoy!
oh how i miss old school secret levels in videogames, this will be great.
Source on the image?
Kek just realized little Gordon stuffed in her boobies
haha i didn't even noticed that wtf
sourcesizeshenanigan on deviantart
man i hate this enemy like you wouldn't believe, so annoying, and residual life at the end really likes to spam them
they're really more of a miniboss. i like them because they force you to move around a lot.
field intensity has a level based on stalkyard from hldm and it uses them, it feels like playing a deathmatch against NPCs
that's a good way of seeing them, they really test your skill at the game, i just suck at half life tbh
I forgot about Residual Life! that's well worth playing too but holy frick it's EXTREMELY long and gets very difficult near the end, it's also made by one incredibly obsessed korean dude who has updated it for years with secret and alternate paths to the point where it requires its own flow chart
RL is very good but the modder had a meltdown because people criticized him pumping up the HP on every enemy. Aside from that and the weird puppet HECU enemies, it looks like a retail HL expansion.
i knew something was off, every enemy felt like needed an extra shot ti put down, and the mod can be really scarce on ammo. the final levels where a nightmare, specially the final section with like ten million turrets and black ops.
Yeah, he pumped up every enemy and said that it was Korean game design, whatever that means.
haha wtf, at least put some more shells in the crates. god damn
I fricking hate when people do that. Stop screwing with the game's balance, it's fine as is.
I understand doing it for Sven Co-op because its designed for several people to be blasting the same enemy but it just makes the gameplay feel like shit.
preach it brother. This is specially true if you play a lot of half life, and you expect a vortigaunt to die in two shots from the shotgun, but the fricker is still standing, and you are standing next to him trying to kill the next enemy aaaand you are dead.
shocked nobody mentioned absolute redemption one of the earliest and still best campaigns that actually continues from half life 1 in a cool way
how old is it anon? is like azure sheep in terms of continuation and interpretation of events in the base game?
released in like 2000 I think so its old. its 3 missions that gordon does for G man in very well made and different atmopsheres. one is in the himalayas, another in a circus, one in a military run warehouse. Its really impressive how much content it has I think it was later included in releases of the games and recognized by valve
it was recognized by valve? wow it most be really good then. If that screenshot from the mod? i love night time in half life, it's a shame that it only lasted for one section in the base game.
yeah the levels have unique atmosphere while still feeling like half life. Im installing field intensity right now never played but it looks great
cool anon, i hope that this thread helped you find some good mods for you to try too.
for sure also if your looking for half life 2 stuff as well highly recommend underhell
CHAPTER 2 NEVER IT HURTS SO BAD
im glad the dude actually became a legit game developer, its probably one of the best mods ive ever played and was clearly a passion project. Maybe one day
what games did he make?
Nta but Insurgency i believe?
you know it bro, i love everthing half life. If someone wants to share some hl2 mods is more than welcome
New maps but not much gameplay changes
>Downfall
>Minerva: Metastasis
>Year Long Alarm
HL2 gameplay revamp
>SMOD
>MMod
New maps, stories and new gameplay mechanics
>Transmission: Element 120
>Mission Improbable
>Thunder's Leaves
>Research and Development
>Inhuman (1st oct release)
>Underhell
Half-Life 2 beta remake
>Missing Information
>Dark Interval
>Coterminous
nice anon, i don't know much about the mod scene of hl2 so this is very appreciated
Inhuman is likely delayed again sadly, but still excited for it's inevitable release, it has heavy FEAR vibes.
oh in that case here's some more good ones
Dangerous World is a really good EP1-era mod.
Spherical Nightmares has really good atmosphere.
EXIT 2 does both even better and is lengthy, secret-heavy and features highly detailed areas.
I've played a lot of HL mods and some of the best really stick with you, hope you enjoy them.
thanks for this extra recommendations anon, atmosphere is one of the things that i like the most about videogames in general. I appreciate the inclusion of it, thanks.
Underhell was such a far leap from what I thought it was going to be. Very very good regardless though, strange atmospheric mod.
The prison sections where you no weapons and have to use were fricking kino. Also one of the most satisfying shotguns
One of the first paid mods too, encouraged by Valve and Sierra. All that aside, it's a very good mod.
Timeline Trilogy
Hazardous Course 2
USS Darkstar
Scientist Slaughterhouse
Paranoia
Peaces Like Us
Sweet Half Life
Action Half-Life
G-Man Invasion
Half-Life: Zombie Edition
Crack-Life: Campaign Mod
Big Scientist
Half-Quake
i'm learning how to make maps for goldsrc and eventually develop mods for it
that's great anon, if you make one i will love to play it
I believe E.Y.E. devs used to make HL mods before, forgot what it was called though.
cool dude bro, pass me the monster
Looks pretty fun, tbqh
Half Life: Life's End
I think everything I'd suggest has been suggested already but I really enjoyed TWHL Tower 1 and 2, Echoes, Residual Life and Field Intensity.
no problem anon, that just adds to my will to play those mods, because if so many people enjoy them, there is a high chance that i'll like them too
