The more I read this, the more hilariously bad and inaccurate it gets.
      >In what way would telling Minfilia the truth about the sundering be even remotely relevant to the task she was chosen for? And why would she need to know?
      >The frick does he mean "someone's not bothered to prevent it"? The entire point of Hydaelyn using Minfilia was to help mitigate and hold against it in the first place.
The Ascians as they were, were not our friends and brothers. They're past selves were friends to the unsundered Azem. The frickers they became was entirely on them and they had to be stopped. Especially Lahabrea
Hell, Lahabrea shouldn't eben be considered a friend in the slightest. This entire thing is stupid, woefully inaccurate and missing out on several points, and is just plain edgy. I'd want my WoL to knock some sense into this gay.

Minfilia did think Hydaelyn was a real god, that's why she followed the instruction to throw herself into the Flow and be a meat-puppet.

we're also not Azem in the first place any more than Amon was actually Hermes

          Anonymous

I mean Amon literally refers to himself as Hermes in the cutscene after his boss battle in the Altiascope.

            Anonymous

He repeatedly refers to Hermes in the third person in his death speech. He acknowledges that he was Hermes in a past life, and retains his memories, but also makes it clear that he is not Hermes.

What sort of mental illness is this?

      Anonymous

Their entire problem with Venat centres around the fact that they're massive Ancient fanboys who headcannon'd Hydaelyn as evil due to Shadowbringers, and when not only their headcannon was proven to be wrong in Endwalker, but Venat was revealed to be Hydaelyn and singlehandedly yeeted the Ancients out of the story, they got super mad and are still to this day coping and seething over her.

They make bogus arguments that "Venat committed genocide" (which is not only not ture as shown by the Nier crossover recently which confirmed the Ancients didn't die from the sundering, but the story never even remotely suggests it was genocide). Meanwhile they completely ignore or excuse Emet and the rest of the ancients actions (they unironically think the Ancients mass-sacrificing themselves to feed Zodiark was justifiable as well as Emet's genocides of entire worlds because it was "for a good reason"). Somehow in their minds the writers were justifying genocide with Venat.

Not to mention FFXIV has a long history of making us sympathize and outright be forgive people who've committed heinous atrocities (Gauis, Yotsuyu, Emet, Fordola, Nero, just off the top of my head). But Venat does similar and they lose their fricking minds.

They're just giga-ancient simps who are mad Venat singlehandedly ensured the Ancients are gone from the story and are eternally seething at her over this, despite the fact that she's now super-dead, meanwhile Emet gets to be reborn depite everything he's done.

        >They make bogus arguments that "Venat committed genocide" (which is not only not ture as shown by the Nier crossover recently which confirmed the Ancients didn't die from the sundering, but the story never even remotely suggests it was genocide).
        >In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

        >Killing members of the group;
        >Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
        >Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
        >Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
        >Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

          Anonymous

The only thing you listed that applies is the 2nd one, and only if one considers sundering to be mental/physical harm.

That being said since this event happened to all of reality it was not specifically targeted at any specific group, I am not sure it counts as genocide.

Since the suffering that would result from the sundering was intended to be a long term positive the goal was not to destroy or damage or wipe anyone out. Its more along the line of amputation because of gangrene or something.

You can watch it on youtube but you don't even need to. In Qitana Ravel, Emet-Selch himself tells you that immediately after the Sundering everyone was still there but that their memories were totally fricked. I don't get how anyone ever thought the Sundering killed all the Ancients when that's not what the Sundering was ever implied to have done. It just fractured everything into 14 equal pieces.

There are plenty of cases of heroes earning godhood through their actions across all mythologies. But that can only be granted by actual natural gods who received their godhood just by virtue of their existence.

It depends what you let fall under the purview of the word "earned", but lesser beings attaining divinity is an element present, by numbers, in more separate mythologies than there are the "supremely omnipresent root deity" kind.

they clearly came after the ancients since they're derived from them (varyingly, given that like a third of the pantheon is venat and/or azem), but they're not primals so shouldn't be born from mortal worship? what, are eorzeans just fricking special and they get to have real gods? they probably can't just be auspices of those ancients' original sundered fragments because ES and Venat weren't part of the sundering.

          correct

Shattering people into weakened fragments of themselves so that they and any other life in existence can be assured of continued existence does not constitute genocide, Since the entire point of genocide is that it prevents that group from ever existing in any form, or aims to attempt to achieve that.

You are the person who is trying to argue the metaphysics of a fictional universe with literal magic. If Sundering does not equal death or the loss of the self is canon, then thats how it works, because we are not talking about actual reality.

But on that point, What do you even mean by concept of self in this particular instance. Sundering would create 14 diminished parts of a person. They would all equally be and not be that person. The mechanics of this are not explained. So yes as long as the original Person is not removed and just diminished that is no more death, than getting old is death, or getting a debilitating disease is death, you are still you, just with less capability.

If killing the ancients, sorry "sundering" them wasn't genocide then it equally isn't genocide when the ascians rejoined worlds, as in both instances the souls still exist, but the memories and personality are all but gone.

I really enjoy how the people who say "Venat could've told the convocation" completely forget that, not only would it be dangerous and jeopradize the timeline, but it would potentially make things worse. Because for starters, she doesn't have any proof to make them believe her claims. We, the WoL, had to go back to the present, and the memories of: Hermes, Hythlodeus, and Emet-Selch were altered and cannot be restored until they return to the lifestream. But mkst inportantly, even if the convocation did believe her, they would've doubled down even harder. Emet-Selch explicitely says that he would not regret nor hesitate to do the actions of his future self. He would not forsake all the sundered ancients and would do anything for them.

        >I really enjoy how the people who say "Venat could've told the convocation" completely forget that, not only would it be dangerous and jeopradize the timeline, but it would potentially make things worse

These morons are unironically arguing that this would be fine because it "would create another AU timeline like in ShB where the ancients survived".

          Anonymous

That's even worse because it doesn't fix anything that happened in the present, and completely assumes that somehow the Final Days wouldn't occur, without even considering the massive consequences of such a decision. The only why it worked in ShB was because it was a last ditch effort where everything was absolutely fricked, and they had to abuse every single loophole possible for even the chance to go back in time and fix things without causing a paradox. Even then, it wasn't guaranteed that the future would be saved, they just had to hold on to blind desperation and hope.

I can't remember, but even Emet-Selch was surprised because not even he could do that. The Crystal Tower isn't even suppossed to be capable of doing what it did. Alexander was a time loop because the core events that caused it were directly caused by what fixed it. Thereby fixing itself entirely while not moving out of place. The Crystal Tower crossed out of the cycle completely.

                Anonymous

Crystal Tower was Alexander+Omega. Omega was likely the X factor that confused Emet, otherwise time-traveling summons would be ez-pz.

Not to mention that Gaia already can manipulate time, albeit on a much smaller scale and likely only in short bursts.

Omega was part of the system used in the Twinning, which let it cross dimensions as well as time. No other instance of time travel also crossed dimensions.

    >I feel like alot of people in this thread are handwaving the absolute horrors wrought by Venat in stating "The WoL would never ever act this way in a million years to her" especially after he traveled to Elpis. What Venat did is essentially what Leto the 2nd did in Dune to follow his "Golden Path" she killed millions upon millions of men women and children ancients for the sake of her mission that none agreed with. Before its said sundering was raping and killing them as it was an explicit violation of bodily autonomy and the death and dissappearance of functioning aware conscious experiences to never be a fully formed person again. Venat committed Genocide on her kind and nothing you say will make it not so. While I respect Venat for her decision and the necessity of her quest to beat Meteion as I cant see another way to beat her it was still a fricked thing to do. Sorry OP you have to deal with Venat simps in this thread.... your comic presents a very real and important perspective the WoL could have especially after experiencing ancient society.

Redditors have no critical thinking skills and do not take in account of the following:

    >Zodiark's creation was flawed from the start, as he was afflicted with Tempering (likely caused by Lahabrea in Pandaemonium)
    >Zodiark was a bandaid, not a solution. His entire existence was to cover up the planet so Meteion's song wouldn't hit it directly
    >Zodiark could never be restored 100% anyway due to the 13th void frickup
    >There is zero evidence that Zodiark would/could revive the dead

    >Thus Zodiark was a pyramid scheme with a time limit, it was inevitably going to fail and the planet was going to be megafricked unless something drastic was done.

        >for their wants.
Which would be to just "revive" the dead. Then what? You're back at square one and Zodiark still needs to feed because you're tempered. Time to sacrifice again!

Don't forget that "reviving" the dead through a Primal has been shown time and again to be a bad idea. It doesn't revive them from the lifestream, it only reanimates their corpse to be a lifeless puppet. It's not actually the person, it's just a corpse stuffed with aether.

the scions weren't dead you moron. they transformed their aetherical forms in the space around you to lay you a path. its explicitly stated that they're actively fighting to keep the way forward for you the whole time. all the crystal does is rematerialize them after you find a way to stabilize the area because if you cant do that they eventually run out of will to continue the struggle and THEN die. They "sacrifice" themselves putting faith in you to find a way to stabilize the area knowing they can be called back if you do so. yshtola explicitly tells you this.

Emet isn't tempered. He acts more than once in ways that are contrary to Zodiark and his goals. Lahabrea does too. Emet goes the extra step and even helps you kill the heart of Zodiark which shouldn't be possible if he was tempered. Plus the brainwashing aspect of tempering didn't exist at the time even if it would have pulled on them harder than sundered.

Tempering is when your aetheric balance is shifted to the primal's element, your personal aether becomes stagnant AND you become susceptible to the primal's will, as per 5.4's "reviving the legacy'

The fervent desire to temper others was added later, as per Livingway

As such, tempering already existed before the 'fervent desire to temper others' was added to the mix.

Stop being a smug c**t you little homosexual moron. I moved no goalposts. Zodiark did not have the capacity to temper as it was not made with the instructions to do so. A primal has to willingly choose to do so, the game has established that it is an active thing a primal does, not a passive result of its presence. Therefore, not even accidental tempering is possible due to presence, which is the only arguable position you have for Zodiark being capable of tempering. You are objectively wrong, and unable to respectfully concede. have a nice day post haste.

you are arguing a definition of the term that the game itself uses differently. you're not more of an expert than the in game usage.

why does the game use the term 'tempering' if it existed before the fervent desire to add others to your belief? Tempering is just the aetheric unbalancing, not the desire to spread it to others

                >but tempering doesnt do this

                >the definition i presented is canonical. yours is bullshit you made up for the sake of argument
lol now this is fricking cope. Anon, the term tempering originally referred to Ifrit's enthrallment. That's canonical fact. Just like Leviathan's enthrallment is called drowning and Ramuh's is called touching. Tempering just ended up becoming the general term later. It specifically refers to enthrallment.

                Anonymous

yes. and enthrallment i never argued wasn't part of tempering.

my argument is that emet-selch used the term because he's enthralled to zodiark. tempering is then used to describe the victims of enthrallment from lakshmi, the queen, odin, eurekan primals, etc, thus tempering is the catch all for enthrallment to a primal.

the 'fervent desire to assimilate others to one's beliefs' is added after the fact.

Tempering already existed before the ascians started handing out bad acid. it doesn't matter what it was called then, because we're using the catch all term. Tempering == wanting to assimilate others into your beliefs. Its serving the primal.

The desire to assimilate others is added into the creation of the primal. the primal then wants to go out and claim new servants.

everything i have said is supported in game.

now, the attack on this argument is that Emet-Selch is lying.

1: what reason do we have to believe he's lying
2: has he knowingly lied to us before

there is simply no evidence to support the statement 'emet selch is lying about being tempered'

                >has he knowingly lied to us before
Yes, he lies before he tells you he's tempered, actually. When he claims that he believes the sundered aren't actually human, he's lying. We know he's lying because
                >He was a patron of the arts and truly loved the arts of the sundered. Word of god from Oda says that he let the Ala Mhigans keep their anthem because he genuinely loved the song, and not because he was trying to demoralize them.
                >He loved sundered in the past, the biggest and most recent example being his first son as Solus. And he grieved heavily when that son died.

Elidibus is not Zodiark. Elidibus himself referred to Zodiark as 'Lord', thus he sees him as seperate. The man who was sacrificed to become Zodiark ceased to exist, and then a primal of that man emerges later who becomes the Elidibus we know

                >He takes actions that he intends to result in the death of his god
what part of putting down a separate primal has to do with hurting zodiark?

just because they made a song he liked doesn't mean he considered them human. him being sad about his son dying doesn't mean he doesn't consider them lesser

he claims to have been testing man's worthiness to exist the entire time, but that doesn't mean he thought it would ever actually happen. as such, its not a lie. its actions we don't have enough information to determine his motivation for, and they're not mutually exclusive

                >there is simply no evidence to support the statement 'emet selch is lying about being tempered'
Other than the fact that the games story tells you that tempering did not exist until the ascians introduced it to summoning techniques to further their rejoining plans therefore any primals/eikons summoned before the introduction of that technique have no will or reason to temper. Which would include Zodiark, thus making it impossible for Emet to be telling the truth, and falls in line with his coping justification for the bad things he is doing.

so emet-selch is lying about being tempered because he's tempered? did i read that right?

why would he have a coping mechanism if tempering worked the way you said it does? Nael van Darnus acted like a normal dude (lady) for 10 years while tempered to bahamut. tempering doesn't mean you're kowtowing to the god all the time, as per the less pious primals like ramuh and leviathan

we know tempering makes you serve the primal, but we don't know the exact specifics, or if there's room for interpretation on the tempered's part. there's also tiamat who was tempered by bahamut but certainly didn't do much to try and serve him while she was locked up for millenia.

No, your reading comprehension regarding my posts is just as bad as the dialogue boxes in game apparently.
I said that emet is lying about being tempered to cope with the fact he is doing bad things. Throughout his story arc you learn things about him that demonstrably prove he does give a shit about the unsundered, and he even argues that he "tried to live among them" towards the finale. But he can justify his crusade to himself (or to you) by either delusionally believing himself to be tempered, or saying it enough times for it to maybe be true (what he actually does). He is not tempered.

you're making several assumptions which require several extra working parts to make your statement true. your entire basis for emet-selch lying isn't supported by in game text or actions. your argument is based on your interpretation of his actions.

its a nice theory, but that is it at best, and at worst its wrong.

                >Elidibus is not Zodiark.

Yes. You killed Elidibus and Zodiark still existed. Elidibus referred to Zodiark as someone else. Elidibus the primal separated himself from the flesh-mech that Zodiark was created as and left him without a will. Elidibus was jumping around shards making heroes. Zodiark was stuck in a cage on the moon. Emet-Selch referred to them as different entities.

they are different beings. full stop. no argument. Elidibus may have come from Zodiark but you are not your mother because you came from her.

                >You killed Elidibus and Zodiark still existed.
The empty shell remained because Elidibus removed himself from it. Elidibus is the heart of Zodiark, he IS Zodiark. The rest is just a shell that formed around that heart.
                >Elidibus referred to Zodiark as someone else.
Yes, he sees himself as Elidibus. But Emet-Selch knows that the Elidibus standing in front of him is the transmuted heart of Zodiark. He knew that Elidibus was the heart of Zodiark, so he shouldn't have been able to even consider killing him.

                are you your heart anon?

He WAS Zodiark at one point I'll allow. But since they were completely separate beings, Z not having its own will, Elidibus becoming a hero on the shards, them not having the same body, them not having the same soul. one died while the other survived.

you also mentioned that he was the 'heart of Zodiark' 3 times. if he were truly the exact same entity as zodiark, and we know from word of god that Zodiark's shards on the other shards of the world disappeared when we killed Zodiark, why did Elidibus' soul remain in the crystal tower and not likewise dissipate? surely the crystal tower isn't more powerful than a ward designed by a supreme deity to hold another supreme deity

and if you killed their slumbering bodies, like say, having their aether destabilize bad enough that krile had to babysit them, what would happen to the other half? they'd die.

elidibus' soul still existed within the crystal tower after zodiark was destroyed. as proposed, they are not the same being.

                >doesnt even understand the simplest concepts of the lore such as that the crystal tower is a big antennae designed to absorb aether from dalamud and would thusly simultaneously function as a battery that holds said aether, and cannot understand why elidibus's aether would still be in said battery since no power was required until we do in fact need it and it burns up his soul in the process
                Holy frick you are moronic.

so are you saying that the crystal tower is better at holding a soul in place than the wards hydaelyn made?

                Anonymous

Why would the wards of hydaelyn need to be compared? Elidibus is zodiarks soul. He's not as powerful as a fully formed zodiark which is what those wards were designed to do. Every ascian has been susceptible to white auracite at least temporarily. The crystal tower was literally compared to a massive white auracite by G'raha. Why would it not be able to contain a weakened Elidibus? You are literally grasping at straws you fricking loser. Just take the loss already.

Elidibus is separate from Zodiark. as i've stated several times and given several in game examples as to how they're separate.

them being one at one point == they're one now.

elidibus had a will and z doesn't, zodiark died and elidibus still remained. elidibus' own MO according to him was faith and prayer in heroes, but that isn't what sustained zodiark. they have separate forms

i'm afraid i don't understand. what am i not getting across. even if they are two halves of the same individual they're still different beings. elidibus and zodiark could be standing next to each other. people refer to them as separate beings. why am i not able to get this point across?

                >elidibus had a will and z doesn't
That's because Elidibus WAS his will. He was Zodiark's soul.
                >elidibus' own MO according to him was faith and prayer in heroes, but that isn't what sustained zodiark.
Elidibus was attracted to the faith in heroes because it was similar enough to the idea of salvation that Zodiark was summoned with. He needed a replacement faith, and heroes provide salvation.
                >elidibus and zodiark could be standing next to each other. people refer to them as separate beings.
How people refer to them is irrelevant because they simply are two pieces of a single being. You wouldn't say that Hades is no longer Hades because he's not in his body anymore.

it provided him the power to go on, yes. but something else was sustaining zodiark. there had to have been something because even hydaelyn needed him to maintain the barrier. zodiark also couldn't have been feeding off of the same prayer

                >How people refer to them is irrelevant because they simply are two pieces of a single being. You wouldn't say that Hades is no longer Hades because he's not in his body anymore.

but if his body was doing its own thing and his soul was doing another, and they had different names, and if one referred to the other half as a different being, i would think of them as separate beings yes. Ardbert and I are both Azem shards, arguably even more intimately connected than zodiark and elidibus (parts of the same soul versus a body and its soul) but no one would say we're the same guy

                >Fernehalwes: “It’s a little bit different from the other beast tribes. In the other tribes, they worship the primal so they summon it, then the primal goes, ‘I want more thralls!’ But Ramuh is a bit more laid back. He doesn’t want to control everyone and create a dominion where it’s just Ramuh and his followers. He’s a man of reason, he’s a judge.
                >But the thing is, the Sylphs are a little bit crazy. Some of the Sylphs want a strong leader. They look at the other beast tribes and they see that they’re strong because they’ve been tempered or they’ve been drowned, and that gives them that connection with their primal. So you have sylphs that want that same thing. So some sylphs go to Ramuh and ask him to temper them, and he does. But the thing is, Ramuh doesn’t force it on other sylphs. So you have a group of sylphs who aren’t worried about summoning Ramuh and just want to live in peace and then there’s the other ones who believe they have to temper more sylphs.”

The primal has to WILLINGLY CHOOSE to temper you moron. If the idea to temper you is not introduced into its summoning, it has no reason to fricking choose to temper you.
At no point during any other primal cutscene in the game, has tempering been shown to just passively happen to things around the primal. It always shows the primal choosing to temper them. This is demonstrated during at minimum, Ifrit, Titan, and Lakshmi cutscenes in both ARR and Stormblood. The Lakshmi one even has you playing as temper immune people blocking her attempts to temper others.

    >Lowest damage at all level ranges of the tanks outside of a few fights where if you play like a beast you'll still be way lower then a drk or gnb trying not as hard as you.
    >Rotation is either simple to the point of boring or overly complex to optimize for no reward depending on level
    >Ranged phase is of questionable benefit because you need to be in melee to build oath meter and most of the time either you can hit the boss in melee anyway or cant hit them at all
    >Can't heal themselves without handicapping their damage until 84 because instead it has RNG shield blocking
    >Doesn't have a dash until 74, 10-20 levels after the other 3
    >Divine veil is noticeably weaker then the other three 90s tank party mits despite being the only one that needs setup and doesn't effect you personally.
    >Hallow ground after 6.1 is comfortably the worst tank invuln that has a few niche situations where its the most useful and a super majority of situations where it's the least useful
    >Is down a personal tank cooldown compared to the other tanks because it has cover, wings and shield bash instead - three moves of extremely niche value - despite the cooldowns it does have being the same or worse then equivalent tank buttons
    >Worst class + job quests in the whole game. The gladiator is actually a private police that never steps foot in the arena and the paladin is actually someone who spends all their time fighting other paladins instead of helping anyone.

and this is after getting buffed constantly in every patch for endwalker because it's the poster boy

      >Is down a personal tank cooldown compared to the other tanks because it has cover, wings and shield bash instead - three moves of extremely niche value - despite the cooldowns it does have being the same or worse then equivalent tank buttons
Incorrect: PLD has passive shield block, which is an additional form of mitigation the other tanks do not, and will never, have.

        Anonymous

pld random blocking would maybe matter if boss auto attacks mattered, but they don't so instead it just never blocks when you need to block something

Ask me how I know you've never done anything beyond expert dungeons.

            Anonymous

the fact that I do savage/ex is why I think paladin blocks sucks shit, everything the boss does will either kill you unless you actively mitigate it heavily (so you cant rely on random chance blocks), is an aoe that will require the healers to heal everyone (so even if you do block it didn't matter) or is something that will just kill you no matter how much mitigation you stack because you fricked up a mechanic

the blocking does help against boss autos, but every other tank can just do their 123 combo that heals them and laugh those off outside of very specific situations where you're probably just gonna start using actual mitigations again. sheltron is good. RNG blocking is a cope because you only have dumbass clemency to heal yourself pre 84 and then you find yourself using magic phase less often then the other 3 tanks use their heal combo

        Anonymous

yeah and it effectively turns off every time you use sheltron
if sheltron increased your block strength nobody would be complaining, and don't point out knight's resolve because every tank got that

a girl in the later warrior quests either has a crush on you or just a bit of a hero worship going on because you've been a better warrior then the quest npc since somewhere in the 40-50 range and she's also kind of an anime cliche so she acts like a b***h to gorge - who she actually likes - and is really nice to you

also her dad suggests you marry her because you're such a chad warrior but even if you say you're open to the idea she's very clearly against it, and then the warrior quest guy gets the wrong idea so it's mostly people seeing what they want to see

I think Venat is an excellent character. Her Hydaelyn design is beautiful and very Amano. I also liked how when in Elpis you learn that Venat didn't agree with the "death is beautiful ending after your purpose is done" and yet that is exactly how she dies.

Endwalker was a fantastic ending to a 10 year story, and sure, I could nitpick a few things I didn't like, but I can do that with every xpac. FFXIV is one of my favorite stories and games ever.

I didn’t want Hydaelyn to be evil per se, but I think they dropped the ball by not having the blessing of ligh be her tempering. It would have been a neat explanation as to why so many adventures are chosen by it, that it’s actually a reversal and the blessing of light tempers them and drives them to adventure since it’s the nature of Azems to act in such a way.

Because the design's only existed as anything other than a random recording at the end of a dungeon for less than a year, and if you're putting in the effort of making and completing a drawing you may as well just set out doing the 10/10 design made by Amano that people are actually going to be looking at in Extremes/Roulettes on a continuing basis.

There was one yesterday or the day before. Getting mad at people talking about XI in a XIV thread or vice versa is like going into a Skyrim thread and getting mad when people mention Morrowind.

XIV draws heavily from XI, but it's just using a very similar framework to look at the same themes in a different way.

Emet gives a few nods to XI Hades, but XI's Hades is much closer to Endsinger. He was trying to unmake everything because he thought the only truth in life was suffering.

XI has higher quality writing and is written in a way that it doesn't hold your hand through everything. It expects you to interact with the world and piece things together, and especially CoP was written with the intention that you need to pay the frick attention and that you're very unlikely to understand the entire thing yourself and you should be talking with your friends and exchanging information to get the whole truth. It's also just very heavy on atmosphere.

Since the sundering didn't change the nature of man and humanity will just do the same thing in the end anyway (shown with the Allagans), she lost hard.

That just makes it even more impressive that man was able to overcome the end of days.

Have you ever consider we're literally the one and only specie in the whole universe that knew where the dicky bird was?

What does that have to do with anything?

We were literally the only ones who could do anything because we knew where the bird was. Do venat morons really need to have everything explained to them? Are you really this moronic?

The Allagans were sundered and they almost Ra-la'd themselves because they got too comfortable and collapsed into moral decay before based Amon saved them by bringing Xande back from the dead and starting a war.

Because WoL is a chad and solves every problem ever.

But like it's pointed out in ShB, eventually WoL will die and everyone will forget any of this ever happened.

And just like it's also pointed out in ShB, those who walked before will leave the torch to be picked up by those that will walk after.

I'm sure that's what the Plenty thought as well, considering it's stated that they went through a lot of strife to get their society to the level it was.

                >I'm sure that's what the Plenty thought as well
No, that race strove to achieve perfection, like a lot of the other failed civilizations.

Until there's a fumble. Come on, at the end of 5.0 it's explicitly said that eventually everything fades from memory, the same is true here.

                >it's explicitly said that eventually everything fades from memory
Again, it also explicitly says there will be others to carry on your legacy in some way, knowingly or not. Then in EW g'raha muses that maybe souls are predisposed toward certian inclinations. The most obvious example being that of azem's shards being prone to wanderlust and adventuring.
                >but what if there's a fumble?
You mean like an entire reflection being consumed by darkness. Well there's at least one survivor who's set to try and do something about it, and the msq has hinted that maybe all is not lost.

                >No, that race strove to achieve perfection
How is that any different from what modern Aetherians are doing? Societies make incremental improvements, that's just how they work. Any civilization that doesn't die off will eventually become post scarcity, like the Plenty.

So what do you thing the point of the sundering was?

                Anonymous

Either to lessen man's aetheric density so that they could interact with dynamis, or so that they live harder lives but more fulfilled lives due to suffering, or both. Regardless the intention of the sundering doesn't matter. All I'm saying is that, regardless of Venat/the WoL/the writers intentions, all civilizations that dont die off will eventually achieve the "perfect" of the plenty unless they artificially impose challenges on themselves.

                Anonymous

Sundered man will never reach the kind of perfection on display in the plenty because they live short lives and strife is a constant.

Functional immortality will be something that even real life humans eventually achieve, even if it takes thousands of years. You don't think Aetherians would eventually achieve it when allagns advanced as far as they did?

Archmagus Noah already invented functional immortality and she's using it to frick strangers every night.

If anything that just proves my point further. Clearly its within the grasp of Aetherians eventually, probably soon.

The Plenty were also mortal once. But even the sundered went that route with Allag, and will do so again unless Cid decides to frick off to become a luddite.

Even when someone important dies, there will be someone else right behind to pick up the torch and advance some more, and so on. That's exactly what happened with the Ironworks from the Black Rose timeline.

If individual souls being predisposed towards certain attitudes could prevent civilizational apathy then Amaurot was never in any danger of that to begin with.

At some point people's legacies die out. In the future mankind will advance and self-destruct just like every other one in existence ever. You can already see the seeds of dysfunction having been planted in modern Eorzea.
