I wanted to hear people's experiences on it. I think if you only play a game with music it's a sign the game is getting boring or bad, but mixing them isn't inherently bad.
If you do play with music, do you mute in game audio or lower it?
>I think if you only play a game with music it's a sign the game is getting boring or bad
it is unbearable to listen to the same clashing and bang sounds after you have played a game for a very long time
Depends on the game. I found ones like The Crew 2 and The Long Drive being perfect for using your own playlists in. The former having a pretty mediocre selection of tracks to begin with. My volume settings were around 75% - 60% for the music only turning it up and opening the throttle when the beats really start flying.
Depends. Horror games are all about sound so you need to play them with headphones with nothing else playing. JRPGs usually have great soundtracks so I'll play them without anything else on. Roguelikes and grindy games for me are great for listening to music or a podcast or movie while you play. Also games that I've played before I'll listen to other shit
Music really helps get me in a good flow state, especially if the game's soundtrack isn't particular good or important. Obviously I don't listen to stuff when I'm playing a story based game for the first time, but otherwise it really elevates the experience IMO.
depends on the genre of game
JRPG's have a soundtrack that the developers created specifically to create certain feeling in their areas. so to listen to your own music will reduce any tones set by the music
Multiplayer FPS usually has no music, so as long as you're okay with not hearing footsteps as clearly or whatever, then it's fine
It depends on the game and how important the in game sounds/music are for gameplay or atmosphere. I only really listen to music when playing something fairly mindless.
It's great for multiplayer games like fighting games and first-person shooters in my opinion. I rarely ever do this in single player games, but I did put this playlist on while I was playing Armored Core VI since I wasn't really keen on that game's soundtrack.

Carpal tunnel? >I love you, Internet all day, we're str- we're hurting >Radiation from the computer is hurting my eyes, I love it, I will not stay off the net
Oh yeah this is a good choice too. I have albums from back in the day that I attribute to specific MMO's whenever I hear them. So a certain song will come up and I'll be like "Oh that reminds me of Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine!"
Only allowed if you have already completed the game once, or if the vanilla game allows you to add your own music files that you can then play with an ingame music player/car radio.
Also it should be music that works as a companion piece to the game, not just any random album or playlist.
literally depends on the game
if you're grinding in an MMO or a ranked ladder comp game then yeah music is okay
but if you're playing some RPG/singleplayer game the soundtrack is probably there to compliment it
I usually put on some electronic stuff
A year or two ago, it would be the AFX Analord collection on MW2 with the in-game music/VO muted
Lately, I was trying to do a nightmare run in Cry of Fear and I would listen to an Autechre mix to get into the zone, or some Dead Rising mall music on repeat since I have the camera out most of the time
Same with TF2, some electronic mix
It's all about working in tune with something once I'm used to a game in my case, for new games I'll listen to the music and actually experience it first though
dont be dull, you do or you dont when the music gets repetitive, so easy to resume and pause

i mix it up, turn the ingame music off when doing something grindy and turn it back on when theres heavy dialogue

for me it's hard to play with music on, even if the game doesn't require it; I feel like im missing on something relevant

imagine not listening to music while playing

It might not have been what you expected, but I'm not fake based

Based and Aerodynamicpilled

I used to listen to a lot of music back when playing MMOs. Loved genre-specific online radio stations Like ChroniX and a couple di.fm ones
Oh yeah this is a good choice too. I have albums from back in the day that I attribute to specific MMO's whenever I hear them. So a certain song will come up and I'll be like "Oh that reminds me of Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine!"
if I'm grinding for an item sure
It affirms my gender
Every single I play first thing I do is mute the music so I can play my own. Ever since I was a kid.
What's there to red pill? You either do it or you don't
You can listen to what you want? Terry would never ask this

CK3 with culture appropriate traditional musics, some of their modern ones to if I feel like it.
So far my favourite is Khakassia music.
