Relatively speaking, as it clearly wasn't one, how close was it to being a "Halo Killer?"

not close but they were still great. I wish we could get these ported over to pc, id love to play them again. It would be cool if sony just let the guys over at GOG and cd projekt crack and port them over, ive heard that they have done so in secret with quite a few old console games so it probably possible

      sony bought bungie
have they remake/do a game game with killzone, and i think it'd be good. so long as they keep the reatarded destiny "rpg grind" out of it.

    never close
good games dont kill other good games, they coexist. good/new mediocre games kill old mediocre/bad games in the same genre

Like the distance between moon and earth. Bad timing, good ideas but horrible realization, also people were triggered by the fact you shoot the cool jin-roh soldiers as american soldier #28747 instead of being one of them.

Do you mean the PS2 one, specifically? I played it on PS2 and it was pretty bad. I liked the visual theme but controls felt floaty and gunplay felt like a bad dream (inaccurate, spray and pray, no crisp impact, gunshots sound like tv static).

the frick did the devs have against construction workers?

You ever been to the Netherlands? There's a reason why we don't have enough construction workers.

It wasn't the Halo Killer, it was never meant to be the Halo Killer. That was just Sony's shitty marketing team. Killzone was completely different from Halo, the only comparable features were that they were shooters set in space. Killzone 1 was shit (admit it) but 2 and 3 are some of the best FPS's on the PS3. Mercenaries was the only VITA shooter worth playing and Liberation was fun, if not a bit moronic. Shadowfall was an absolute piece of shit that went in the complete opposite direction of everything the series did well up until that point and killed it because very few of the people who worked on 2/3 were still around. I would know, the dude who designed the cover system was my teacher in college and told me he fricking hated the Jungle segment in 3.

Point me to one instance of Sony using the term

That's literally what they've done all throughout the series. Killzone's main issue has always been Sony's marketing team completely blowing the series out of proportion, leading to people getting buttmad when it didn't turn out every new entry was the second coming of Christ. Its got some of the most infamous marketing scandals in the industry, when in all reality most of the series were genuinely decent games.

Is Killzone 1 any good? Or people just like this series because of the multiplayer of 2?

1 had a lot of issues with things like performance, but the story is kino

Its got some interesting ideas but doesn't utilize them to its fullest.
There's 4 main characters you can play as throughout the campaign, each with their own starting weapons and 'abilities' but those abilities are rarely ever accounted for in level design, meaning you're mainly just picking your starting gun, two of which are objectively better than the other two. The story is extremely poorly written and voice acted, but it has some kino moments. The actual combat is somewhat mediocre for its time, but its got a couple of weapons that are fun to mess around with. Do keep in mind that this game is pretty old and slapped together by a relatively small studio, so its kinda jank and a bit clunky.

It's interesting how aesthetics can carry a game.
I'm playing the PS3 remaster and it's fun, but I can definitely see where the criticisms came from.

    Why

It's an FPS so cool looking enemies are more important than a cool looking protag you only see in cutscenes.

The entire concept of Halo Killer was invented by journos and corporate developers. No fan or developer wanted Halo to die except for autistic grognard PC boomers who hated that a console game was popular (and other similar contrarians).

It was a good game when it came out, but not really a Halo killer. It was, however, miles better than the other "Halo killer" that came out...GoldenEye" Rogue Agent.
