It is. Only God can be a source of objective morality. If your morality is subjective, you have no morals.

Read the Bible. Goal of Christians is to perfect like Jesus. To be Christ-like, we try to do what he did. He spent time with thieves, prostitutes, stoners - you name it. I only recently became a Christian, so I have not started going to Church yet. It is a bit tricky since my country is protestant and I would like to attend an Orthodox or Catholic church.

              >ignore what doesn't fit with your narrative
              Very christian of you brother.

I sin daily, brother. I am not perfect. The fabric thing I am not familiar with. Is it Old Testament? We do not follow that, but it is important for historical context.

If that were true then you'd spend your time getting people like us to go to church on Sunday, instead of coincidentally waiting until Sunday to recruit as after the fact.

This isn't a convincing argument. If morality doesn't originate from religion where does it come from? What stops the "progressive" slide?

Morality originates from religion, that doesn't mean that's where morality stops. Philosophy has essentially destroyed the existence of religion on a literal text, and most religions don't align with YOUR philosophical morality either. Hence why I brought up the mixed fabric, and the fact that you're all shitposting on Sunday.

Not the foundation - only a thing, that tends to utilize morality, with both good and bad side effects - and with a goal of control. "Do as i say, or else. See, what happens to a man, who tries to break my nice little society, that gives me my nice lifestyle and which i control?"
Religion is first and foremost a structurized power over a society as a rule-making thing. It is easier to control a society, where nobody kills each other randomly, nobody creates chaos at will and nobody breaks the rules unless told explicitly by the ruler.

It isn't a foundation, but an attempt. It has for many many years now, overstayed its welcome, and is increasingly becoming a detriment overall to our species. Yes some of it still has uses, yes some religions are "worse" or "better" than others, so on. The point is overall and trend-wise.
    >inb4 butthurt athiest

You don't have any idea what you're talking about. You don't even know what of religion you object to... An expression of ethnic culture? So is art and music. A hierarchical organisation? So is the state, business, military, sports clubs, universities, think tanks, NGOs, etc. ... A non-materialist philosophy? Held by many serious academics & thinkers religious and non-religious. A system of ethical practice? There are countless secular examples. A historically rooted tradition? So is law, government, nationality, culture, literature, etc.
You should use your own brain for once rather than spouting off clichés.

Religion is a complex control instrument, that is supposed to act through culture only, but de facto also utilizes money, human power, violence, laws and other methods. Simple as.
Now faith is a bit different thing - but faith is a personal culture, that is utilized by religion, can be induced by religion, but, ultimately, can exist without religion.

Is there light without shadow? Would the angels follow God, our Father in heaven if he forced them to? What example would he set if he killed Satan? Angels would follow Him out of fear, not out of love for his grace. Humans told God to bug off, and he respects us so very much he did exactly that. And when God steps back - chaos erupts. Who created light and who put the stars in the sky? Who healed the sick, did miracles and rose? Who showed Himself in front of 500 people after his resurrection?
