MGS4 existing at all confirms that all the events in MGS2 actually happened. sure it may have seemed like you were in cyberspace to elicit exactly that hypothesis but Raiden's character arc with Rose and the Colonel, Emma's worm cluster, the AIs, Solidus's fate were all plot points in 4.

the only part of MGS2 that's implied to be VR is the Tanker chapter as when you complete it Raiden will tell GW he's done VR training and "feels like some kind of legendary mercenary" which Raiden doesn't say if you skip it and go straight to the Plant chapter. also later flashbacks to the scene show Snake in a shootout while equipped with a rifle which you can't get in that level, implying that what we played isn't exactly what happened.

          Anonymous

not that anon but Arsenal Gear was intentionally made to be like a mushroom samba for Raiden with the corrupted codec calls and nonsensical boss arenas. Raiden goes through a literal existential crisis wondering if he's real, with Snake and Otacon having to talk some sense into him to pep him up to survive.

the RAY boss arena specifically was in MGS1 VR missions which I think is the reason why the "MGS2 is a VR mission" meme came to be.

I'm still not letting the blatant rehash of the Joakim Mogren bit, complete with musical sting, fall into obscurity. I didn't think Physint was Metal Gear until that happened. If it's not I will be genuinely baffled that they scripted that question into the HideoTube video at all. Why did he dodge the question in the absolute most suspicious way possible, he could have made a statement about why they're exited to be working on something like that from a totally new angle, or if it was really completely unexpected somehow, just cut it from the video entirely.
There are only two ways it makes sense to leave any ambiguity at all. One, Physint is really Metal Gear and they're doing it to make the eventual reveal as surprising as possible (which they will have ruined in hindsight by making it so obvious now.) Or they think it's funny to keep the Caramel types chasing the carrot on the stick, in which case, Kojima will have established himself as the most based man to ever live, for all time. And I wouldn't even be mad. So it's a win-win situation as far as I'm concerned.

Kojima would unironically love it, the director of the Metal Gear Solid film literally asked for advise on how to do the film and Kojima just said "Do the same thing as me, betray your audience."

Remember the dumb TTS cutscenes that everyone hate? Kojima was shown an incredibly faithful version of some cutscenes during development and he said "get rid of that gay shit, make it like how you usually do it" to the guy who's more used to doing Matrix-like action scenes

I think that was a miss in communication due to the language barrier, Kojima saw a very faithful version of a MGS1 remake, he thought that felt boring and pointless, so he told them to "make it crazy"

He wasn't saying "make it over the top silly anime and shiet", he was telling them to go wild and make their own version of MGS1, like how the movie The Fly is technically a remake but just a totally new wild take on the original and its own unique movie, THAT is what Kojima meant. But of course it can be hard to convey when you're speaking different languages so they just took him at his face value and made it "crazy"

            Anonymous

Not likely, since that guy was also japanese and kojima was a fan of his style in movies and wanted him to make it like that.

from what i heard Kojima was a fan of the guy picked to direct the cutscenes and told him to make the cutscenes in his own style instead of just imitating MGS1 1:1

for all the complaining about it (it's the least important problem TTS has imo) i think it worked out as sort of Otacon's retelling of events where Snake is a super badass doing ninja flips, as moronic as it is

      >Hmm what if MGS5 was actually not 5 but... V? You play as V and V has come to. Kojima you're a genius.

Calling it MGSV was a compromise. Kojima fully intended Peace Walker to be MGS5, and didn't want it to be displaced, but Konami did want it to be treated as a side game so as not to dilute the "main brand's" prestige and premium price with a shorter, smaller, cheaper game.

It's the newest version of the game, doesn't have pressure sensitive controls or the weird problems from the Bluepoint port, and it already has crouch walking. There's no reason not to hand off the source code from that over to Virtuos instead of the Bluepoint port, especially when they're just going to add a fancy graphical wrapper overtop of it anyway.

The HD editions released before MGSV were ports done by Bluepoint. They're literally just direct ports from the PS2, they have strange graphical problems, mostly in MGS2, less so in 3, because the instructions for the Emotion Engine graphics chipset didn't translate 1:1.

they're reusing the original voice performances, the story will be unchanged. the only changes i really expect are

              >transitions between areas gone, replaced with areas between instead to make areas larger/longer without drastically altering the layouts of things
              >gameplay stuff like survival mechanics and the survival menu being realtime instead of pausing the game
              >censorship of various things like shots of EVA's bust even though it's literally the entire point of her character that she's the Bond girl that subverts the trope and gets one over on the secret agent using her sexuality as a weapon

I think they might only censor the Survival Viewer for EVA from the end of the game, or cut it entirely. They can't cut Volgin's sexual sadism aspect, as it's relevant in all but maybe two cutscenes he appears in before you get to the Shagohod sequence. I have hope they'll improve the motorcycle chase sequence though it could really use it.

            >They can't cut Volgin's sexual sadism aspect
he's a bisexual man and it's not "male gazey" so it's fine, none of that will be touched and i'm sure Raikov's bulge will be fully modeled and everything but EVA will be in a digital burqa by the time localizer trannies get done with the game.

It's extremely "male gazey." He beats, abuses gropes and shocks EVA so badly she end up covered in crazy branching scars, and he fully believes he pressures her into masochistic sexual acts. It's easier to justify in terms of current sensibilities as an extremely aggressive, performative coping mechanism because he's actually gay and heavily repressed and self hating because it's 1964 in the overwhelmingly Eastern Orthodox Soviet Union, which might save it from a lot of scrutiny.

those things aren't meant to tantalize the player the same way a closeup of EVA's chest or sexy posters of Japanese models, they're just meant to show Volgin's violence alongside his sexual desire. you're meant to feel sympathy for her, not be aroused by it.

They did a retexture job to the models to make them "dirtier" but they had to downgrade the gameplay models a bit for some reason, you notice in Citra right away that the top of Snake's head is a flat texture.

Ghost Babel and VR Missions are the only two games where you're actually playing as Raiden in his VR Training before the Plant chapter. VR Missions is directly shown to be what Raiden actually experienced, and when you get 100% completion in Ghost Babel, it explicitly reveals itself to be a simulation and you've actually been playing as a character named Jack, which can only be Raiden, and this is further supported by the Colonel AI making direct reference to Galuade.
