Durability in RPGs is a god-tier mechanic and I'm so fricking tired of morons who don't like it.
no it's just a disingenuous mechanic that boils down to giving melee weapons limited ammo
i've heard contrarian opinions before, but this
Durability has never been good in any game ever.
All it does is waste time and create pointless busywork by annoying people with repairs.
Adding durability to a game should be a capital offense.
Was there ever a game where durability changes the attack type/element?
Would be funny if like a dull sword suddenly deals blunt/strike damage or poison because its heavily rusted.
Santier's Spear?
it's good in fallout where lower durability makes weapons malfunction and repairing isn't just walking up to a random vendor and paying gold
Durability in Souls never mattered, it was pointless to keep it in ER, there's games that have very good durability mechanics but Souls wasn't a good example of that, it was pointless mechanical bloat.
It's their first good game for a variety of reason, durability isn't one of them. Dark Souls 3 had already made durability pointless. In Dark Souls 1 it was as long as you spend 2k Souls to repair weapons
It's not a bad mechanic in an RPG, but it's bad in an ARPG. It was shit from the first iteration, because you had to randomly travel back to the Nexus for repairs. It was a leftover was King's Field, where you can't just teleport around and you have to actually strategize and can find yourself stuck with broken weapons in a dungeon
In Dark Souls 2 it was also a joke, except for the corrosive enemies in certain setpieces and the 60fps bug, which were more annoying than engaging
Depends how it's handled and if its used to artificially balance shit or not, really
Frick off giving me a super godtier sword but making it break in thirty seconds
This is the first time I've ever seen anyone mention the game not having durability. Really reinforces what a joke of a mechanic it became after DS2
What people think durability in games is
>OH FRICK MY WEAPON IS ABOUT TO BREAK AND IM KN A FIGHT I NEED TK STRATEGIZE
what it really is
>Oh I'm at 70% let me repair it
This, what's the point in durability when all it leads to is more tedium?
Games like BOTW where you are constantly changing weapons kind of make sense because it actually forces you to think on your feet when your weapon breaks, a mechanic like that where the weapons have lots of actually variety and not just stats could work for me
God, you are dumb
cope, cope and cope
This is how it is in most games but BOTW has poisoned people's perception of weapon durability. That being said, if the mechanic is so inconsequential that you'll realistically never be in a situation where you're in danger of your weapon breaking then the mechanic has no reason to even exist
The weapon durability system in souls games is so irrelevant you might play through all of them without knowing it even exists. I'm "glad" it's not in elden ring, but it doesn't really change anything.
pretty much. i think theres 1 single boss in DS2 DLC where it actively melts your armour and weapon so you have to either fast swap, or run away and do a panicked search through your menu to equip your 2nd best armour and weapons
In DS1 and particularly 2 it was more significant. 1 used durability as ammo for special weapon attacks and 2 had drastically lower durability across the board, your rings could be broken, there were acid hazards in the levels, and soul memory made the expense of repairing broken gear actually matter. It's only in 3 where durability is completely pointless and you will never even come close to breaking a weapon or armor unless you invade constantly for hours on end without ever using a bonfire in between.
The one in DS3 might not even exist.
they keep dumbing these games down
i didn't finish 2 but i swear durability was never ever a problem in 1 and 3, worrying about it was like worrying about your inventory capacity
This game mindbroke so many adhd zoomies. Kind of sad but also funny.
was durability even an issue in ds3?
It mattered on the one single day that Acid Surge functioned as advertised.
Was durability ever a fricking problem in any of the Souls games? Maybe in DaS2 if you're doing an agape run and pissing yourself every time you get to the part with the corrosive urns and explosive dudes. But that's about it.
only in ds2 when using low dur dex weapons but you only needed to equip a ring or just switch weapons
>durability
it never mattered moron
ds3 and ds2 basically already did it moron
Weapon durability would be an interesting mechanic if you couldn't repair your weapons so you have to save your favorite sword for boss fights and use this hammer for fodder, this dagger for elite enemies, etc.
you could do that with crystal weapons
> if you couldn't repair your weapons so you have to save your favorite sword for boss fights
and it's a moronic mechanic
>you could do that with crystal weapons
Yeah but in a game where you could repair your weapons why would you do that? Learn to read you moronic fricking ESL.
>save best weapon in case I meet tough enemy
>get better weapon right before big boss
Sounds moronic, especially in Dark Souls as this would just punish people who die a lot. Weapon durability makes sense in Valheim where your best weapon possible is based on which area you are in and it's just the same weapon over and over, why the frick would I want all my unique weapons destroyed in DS?
>>save best weapon in case I meet tough enemy
>>get better weapon right before big boss
Then don't let you find a better weapon right before big boss, fixed. Think next time anon
>WAAAAAAAH MINOR INCONVENIENCE BAD I MUST FEEL GOOD 24/7 NOOOOOOOOOOO
>doesn't remove the moronic upgrade system
no.
>Game type: No repair
Make a build that has to use all weapons at his disposal. No weapon can be fixed and is perma lost, cant be found again. Sword breaks and all you have is a staff? Guess youre a mage now, bucko. Hope you have the stats.
FROM should have removed it in BB and Ds3 because why bother including it if barely matters and you don't go all out with it like in Ds2?
The “weapon at risk” warning in DS1 made me think that there was a chance of the weapon permanently breaking if I kept using it before getting it repaired. I thought that was a pretty interesting and brutal mechanic.
But nope, it just means less damage until you repair it.
Durability was always silly in these games.
>go buy some items
>click on 'repair all' and spend some pocket change to repair everything
It boiled down to a few extra button presses
git gud
