I'm in the midst of my first serious playthough. I played almost 12 hours yesterday alone. Amazing game, my only complaint is when I finally got the chip and was faced with whose side I was going to take with it I really felt no allegiance to or aversian to any one side. No one in my first 20 hours really put up a strong argument one way or another. Why would I betray Mr House? Did he do literally anything wrong?
That aside it's been pretty kino.

Eh, House seems to be the "correct" option until you start realizing the dumpster fire that is the Strip thanks to his management, and he somehow thinks he can start a Mars colony, he's basically Elon but with enough brainpower to not say moronic shit every single day, at best the Mojave becomes more peaceful and nothing else changes, at worst the Strip tears each other apart before House can actually do anything meaningful, in the end the only reason you choose him over independent Vegas is because you don't like the chaos that rises from securitrons being left unchecked

          >Benny, the head of the chairmen was planning to betray and usurp him (granted, house was aware of that)
          >The omertas are conspiring with the legion to commit a terrorist attack on the strip
          >The white gloves are looking to return back to cannibalism
That's besides the general dissent from the kings and vault 21's ex-dwellers

So what would it look like if House wasn't around to begin with?

              Anonymous

They would've all still been tribals either bootriding, raiding or cannibalising each other. The point is, house tried to dress them all up to emulate his pre-war Vegas, but it didn't obviously work out all that well.

It might not be perfect, but he definitely made a tangible improvement then. Plus the internal instability can actually be fixed by the player unlike NCR and Legion.

                Anonymous

True. I don't detest him but actually swing between him and independent ending. He's genuinely a genius, the only faction leader to treat you as a proper right hand and if we're being honest, he doesn't explicitly wrong you in anyway for you to kill him.

The best argument in favor of House is that he can keep the NCR's expansionism in check while not being an existential threat like the Legion. But Independent could do that just as well so there's no reason to be a cuck to House unless you really buy into his "muh space" schtick.

Why don't other RPGs have factions and quests like New Vegas? The game was made in like a year and a half, it's not a question of time or money.

      Because they have anything else

VTMB has similar branching quests, unfortunately it’s just as rushed and hastily made as New Vegas, even more so.

        Anonymous

I don't simply mean branching quests, I mean having a main quest that's divided into a set of major faction-related quests. Blurring the line between main quest and side quest and making the player feel like every part of the world matters and what they're doing has an impact.

Witcher 2 makes you pick a side, Dragon Age games also do it to some extent, but I think in general gamers don't like the feeling of being locked out of content so we end up with Bethesda games where you're simultaneously the guildmaster of every organization in the world. If the game is long and linear at points someone might not want to replay the whole thing just to see a few hours' worth of quests for another faction.

      >woman teaches you to shoot guns
yes we have women teaching clueless morons in kindergarten as well.
      >shoot gang member in the face
even in csgo and cod people survive headshots, this argument is moronic since most fps games have different damage numbers for different weapons, fallout just added stats which affect those damage numbers as well.
      >he explodes
all those gangers carry dynamite, so when you see one explodes from being shot at, instead of being intrigued to check what caused the explosion he just wrote it off as bad coding.
This post was either bait or the guy was a genuine moron.

Kind of easy to hold up when 90% of the game is walking and talking and not much else.

But once the combat starts is when it becomes obvious the game doesn't hold up at all.

It really is. From Felicia Day's "voice acting" to the claim that its the "true successor" to the original Fallout series when in reality its just a glorified DLC and a zombified franchise propped up by devs that can't make a good game to save their lives. As far as I'm concerned, the only good Fallout is Fallout 1.
