Roll of the dice whether you get hardlocked on that stealth mission and have to restart
>stealth mission
Is there more than one? I'm playing RTCW for the first time right now, and I got past the missile base infiltration. I'm currently fighting through Kugelstadt to steal the Venom Gun.
There's one more, but it's a lot easier due to the map being close-quartered and the only two alarms being located at the 2nd half of the level.
paderborn is "stealth until you break the alarm boxes"
afterwards you can kill everyone
That's what I do when I replay it, just bumrush the two alarms and destroy them after going through the bookcase secret, and then I go back and kill the officers without fear.
Shit taste.
I really dislike how the engine handles shooting but the entire environment and story is kino
Would really like to see a remake in id tech 8 or whatever number they are on now
RTCW is a good game, you just suck at it.
Sounds like you played the shitty PS2 port
Nah I played it on PC
It has vastly inferior animations, gunplay and movement to the majority of okder shooters
The only thing that's aged is the level design. There's some standouts like the Wulfburg Village (4th level), but by and large the level design is merely okay at best. Everything else, especially the gameplay and combat aged like a fine wine.
>Enemies do not react to small caliber bullet
>Death animation is crap and you can't really tell at which point the enemy died
>Every gun sounds bad and every smg has awful random spread
have a nice day immediately
Filtered
>bad movement
i can't hear you because i just strafe jumped to the end of the map already
>strafe jumped
>hitscan enemies
Lol medium doesn't count
i'm talking about the vanilla game, not the old version of realrtcw dude
Yes? Just because it's hitscan, doesn't mean fast, fluid omni-directional movement isn't important. The game has plenty of cover in the form of pillars, crates, and carved out corners where if you're ever overwhelmed by enemy presence out in the open, you can quickly strafejump to cover (while shooting back). That's what makes RTCW fast-paced and fun.
It plays great to me, I just got done with a full playthrough. The balance is a little fricked on the penultimate level, though. Made the final boss feel like a cakewalk.
Imagine playing israeli propaganda.
The only valid complaint is that the grenades are a little weak and have a pussy throwing motion, but there's still plenty of enemy encounters where using grenades is important. Everything else I completely disagree with, especially bad movement. You can strafejump for frick's sake.
>zoomer learns most early to mid 00s fps suck ass
dont listen to what boomers tell you on this board. it was a weird transitional phase from 90s FPS to modern design. but nothing really meshes well. a lot of these games have subpar shooting (compared to their earlier entries), dumb gimmicks (forced stealth missions, etc.), or they're boring ass tech demos. Stuff like Cod 4 and post 2007 FPS is a lot better to play.
t. born in 93 and i rather play any late 90s fps and skip on this entire generation of junk. yes that includes NOLF1/2, RTCW, Star Trek Elite Force, Tom Clancy's boring ass snooze fests, Jedi Knight 2, SOF1/2, Doom 3, and the rest of them.
Eh, many are very overrated in the sense people paint them as 10/10 when they're really not. Some are great, most are good 7/10, a couple suck (imo SOF, doom 3). Hard disagree on newer shit being much better though
>Bad movement
no, jump makes you jump. sprint makes you sprint
>Weak gunplay
no. every weapon has a use
>Poor hit feedback
enemies stumble when hit? only need headshots anyways
>Supernatural enemies are boring
nazi supersoliders and teutonic undead seem pretty cool. i'll admit the zombies are a bit unimaginative
>Grenades are useless
??
>moronic mag dump spread
crouching makes every weapon laser accurate even at full auto
>crouching makes every weapon laser accurate even at full auto
This. It's sad that people like OP probably don't even know this since the game didn't come with a manual when they downloaded it off Steam. RTCW doesn't exactly hold your hand when it comes to this in-game, you have to figure it all out yourself. Crouching while shooting more than doubles your accuracy, and it locks the cone of fire at a really tight spread even if you magdump.
>jump makes you jump. sprint makes you sprint
Just admit you don't know what makes movement good
>no. every weapon has a use
Just admit you don't know what gunplay means
>enemies stumble when hit?
Except when they don't
>crouching makes every weapon laser accurate even at full auto
So it comes back to the bad movement and gunplay
dead space or asscreed unity has the worst movement i ever experienced. mgsv or bf1 is probably the best. what makes movement good is that you don't have to think about it at all. when you want to move in someway and the game doesn't understand that's bad movement
God i can hear that one drunk soldier singing in the wine cellar.
>STAND AT ATTENTION SOLDIER, YOU'RE A DISGRACE TO ZE' REICH
>hey fraulein get me another beer
zoomer OP fricking btfo'd
it came out before BOH and battlefield moron
Medal of Honor (1999) has infinitely better gunplay
Return to Castle Wolfenstein has to be one of the most underrated treasure fps ever
>Good movement
>Strong gunplay
>Rich hit feedback
>Supernatural enemies are cool
>Grenades are useful
>Smart mag dump spread
The Medal of Honor games are inferior in every way, even the first one

Posting israelites should be a bannable offense
but he's Polish in the old games
>but he's Polish
It's even worse than we thought
amen
That's right
Yes sir
>muh strafe jumping
Who fricking gives a shit? No one fricking cares you get to jump around like a spastic
The game feels like shit to move around in and shooting enemies feels like shooting cardboard cutouts. There is no real feedback.
If you can't tell how much better shooting feels in the new Wolfensteins compared to RTCW you are are a braindead boomer
>The game feels like shit to move around
What are you even talking about? Is the movement too slippery? You can hold down caps lock to walk slowly in that case. You have full control over your movement, 3 different degrees of movement at the press of a button. You can walk, jog, sprint, and use momentum-based strafejumping at will. RTCW's movement is great.
>Is the movement too slippery?
You will fly and go past several steps in stairs even with normal run
Then hold down caps lock. There's even an option to turn off always run in the settings. I don't know why you'd want to, but it's there if you want to take stairs one step at a time.
>If you can't tell how much better shooting feels in the new Wolfensteins compared to RTCW you are are a braindead boomer
The newer games *should* have better-feeling shooting you moron, considering they were made a decade later.
Honestly everything about them should be better than their predecessors, but unfortunately that is not the case, especially New Colossus/Youngblood's writing and campaign design.
>Bad movement

Only thing I hate about RTCW and I've never seen anyone defend is the fricking horrible last boss
What the actual frick happened? Did they run out of time to make a decent boss or something?
>melee only boss with soul attacks that only spawn if you run outside the arena
Awful. The only good boss fight was with the two Super Soldiers in that dark forest level.
You could probably count the number of times an fps had a decent final boss on one hand.
ok but try defending the first super soldier fight, that one's also bad
You can complete it without taking any damage, though. You just have to let it chase you around one of the pillars near where it spawns, keeping it's right-handed weapon model out of your line of sight while you whittle it down with your Venom minigun.
i know
that's not fun though
The only thing I highly dislike about RtCW is that early stealth level.
Have I overlooked something, or has it really been twenty years since release and not a single mod exists that turns the stage into a regular run-and-gun mission?
>stab soldier in back, stab the other two in house in the back
>next house stab officer in the back
>go around bridge, climb up tower stab soldier in back
>snipe the rest from tower
>go through tunnel
>stab two in back, stab tower soldier in back
>snipe two at tunnel
>snipe two at gate
>sneak in base
>stab in back
>go in next building, stab in back
>stab last guard in back
>walk in truck
mission is very simple just extremely linear
It's not complicated, it's just slower-paced in a game where you spend most of your time running around.
Would be nice if setting off an alarm just spawned a ton more enemies for you to fight instead of ending the mission.
forgot that one gay in the tower. still you can just shoot him with the mauser from outside the base and no one cares
You do have to make sure that when you snipe him, you do it in a way that his dead body won't be visible to the last guy who drives you in.
You can turn off the alarms in the CO-OP mod, but yeah, Forest is "that level" for RTCW, not because it's particularly frustrating, but because of the gamebreaking softlock that can occur when the final guard who's supposed to drive Blazko into the rocket base gets stuck in a perpetual alert state. He won't run off to trip the alarm and give the player a fail state, but you also aren't allowed to complete the level (it will always say 3/4 objectives complete).
RTCW's sound design is very well done. The atmospheric ambience, the music, the different voiceline cues from the guards depending on their alert status, their clear and distinct reloading and footsteps - they all do a great job at making you feel in-tune with your surroundings. Did you know many of the levels can be completed at least partially stealthily? My favorite is the rocket base level where you can hide in a crate, get lowered onto a tram, and bypass like half the level unseen.
Nah, it's a solid game and deserving of the praise it receives.
I never got past the part where you fight those super female nazi troopers.
Give RealRTCW a try, you get a shotgun that makes that part of the game much easier. That goes for OP too and would alleviate some of his complaints for the game. The recent updates this month also added in the option for more enemy reinforcements, which makes RTCW insanely replayable now thanks to the new enemy encounters it opens up. Enemies like the Venom and Flamethrower troopers popping up in new areas really make them feel like true additions to the enemy roster now.
more enemies is broken on boss2 btw, there's a proto-soldier blocking the scientists from raising the door where the super soldier comes out of
That's been fixed in my experience. But, there is the fact that like 8 grunts randomly spawn in at the beginning of the level for some reason, which is just gay.
Hold down caps lock to walk. You can stay scoped in while you move around that way.
i don't mind them appearing
but them spawning before your eyes is immersion breaking
I'll give it a try
Keep seething swedecucks, your shot at Wolf sucked and everyone knows it.
New Order and Old Blood were alright, then the main devs left and everything went to shit.
Maybe Microsoft should get Raven to make another Wolf game instead.
I love RTCW but fricking hell that stealth mission was painful. Frick that one guard in particular.
Is there an option to keep the reticle active after picking up a scope for the mauser?
realrtcw
Does realrtcw allow you to shoot while leaning around a corner? if so, I'm sold.
no
it does not, but i'd recommend it for a lot of great improvements on a dated game. aforementioned reticle customization, extra weapons and a boatload of graphics options to start
I chuckled when the Pac-Man ghost popped up.
I'd download it, but I think I'm already halfway, or more than halfway through the game. I'm on 4-2, would it be worth restarting? I really don't want to fight those armored zombies again...effing bullet sponges.
Yeah, you can choose from any of the 7 missions from the main menu, so you could start RealRTCW on Mission 4-1.
Neat! That wouldn't be too bad at all. Thanks!
with realrtcw you'll get a shotgun to take care of the zombie c**ts
The MG-42 makes quick work of them too.
Sounds pretty accurate. I played MOHAA to completion. RTCW can't remember if I ditched on the first or second level.
>tfw OP inadvertently started a comfy RTCW discussion thread
one thing im noticing while replaying is swapping weapons is clumsy as frick but other than that its amazing going back through.
I love the fricking cutscenes of OSA offices etc. Simple and grounding.
Cutscenes made in the game engine are inherently more soulful.
Yeah, I wish you didn't have to wait for the reloading animation to complete for it to actually switch.
Does RealRTCW appear on the Steam Library as your game?
>buying a 21 year old game
