The later part of the game being an actual Cthulu cult is more where it lost me. To me, it was art, because I was able to construe my own meaning from the story.

It's more of an interactive story than what you might call a game, I actually liked the story and the art and the setting.
It's definitely not for everyone, although its loudest detractors hate it for really stupid reasons that have nothing to do with the game itself (case in point: most of the posters itt).
The game itself is pretty quirky but it's a walking simulator, full stop. There are rhythm game segments and it revolves around capitalism bad because it makes small towns sacrifice kids (jobless adults) to a ghost in a hole and socialism is good because somehow the small town would get the resources it needs otherwise, apparently.
