I’ve beaten RE4 like 5 times in my life, and I think I used a rocket launcher on this guy every single time.
If you die in the actual fight, do you go back to very beginning pre-hanging containers? Or is there a checkpoint once the real fight starts? Because that was always my biggest concern, fucking up and having to redo the whole finding switches section, since I suck at that part. My first ever playthrough I backtracked and bought rocket to kill him early, I think I just blew myself up, but then checkpoint saved me with launcher so when I eventually did get to actual fight I just blew him up, then on every repeat playthrough over like 17 years I’ve just done that again.
I recall there's a checkpoint after clearing the containers.

I try to use the explosive barrels around the place as much as possible before drilling him with the TMP.
yes after escaping those platforms you get a checkpoint right before entering the arena
back then I was still a purist, played it without continues and without using first aid sprays. that part was hell.

They’re diminishing returns, RE2 Remake cut out A/B scenarios with most of the unique that provided but was overall pretty great, 3make cut out entire areas and neutered Nemesis which was a key selling point of the game, and 4 looks to be even more cut content.
With the amount of reused assets between all games made after 7, it’s pretty clear capcom’s goal is to reuse assets to quickly turn development leading to games that all feel the same and are missing content

From what Ive seen of the re4 leaks, the only thing I’ve seen cut was the that room where you have to chase a dude with a key then he gets on a turret. Seems the village is 100% intact with a few extras.
RE2make's cuts tended to be enemies you only saw once or twice and the A/B scenarios, which were neat but I wouldn't say transformative to the game. It also added some new areas so it doesn't feel like you just strictly lost content.
RE3make straight up removes entire areas, turns Nemesis from a consistent stalker with decisions that change the story path in the short-term into just a recurring boss fight that has one single small area he chases you around in. So much is cut that it's impossible to ignore.
RE4make seems to be the closest to a 1:1 remake compared to 2 or 3 so far.

The Mine Launcher is cool, but very impractical and not great for a first run. The TMP is also an excellent boss killer if you put the money into it. You WILL need a rifle for certain enemies later in the game, and the range it offers you is invaluable in a lot of situations. I say sell the Mine Thrower. Also, there's a free Revolver you can get later on.

he is a boss with an achievement but i haven't seen any clips of the boss fight. however, official gameplay footage has shown leon riding around in a boat with unlimited harpoon ammo, so the boss fight is likely pretty much the same

I hate this fight so fucking much. Maybe I'm a shitter but I've never had a perfect run on professional during this part. Hope the boat is smoother in the Remake if they're keeping it in.
I don't usually get killed hy him but I always worry I'm gonna mess up and die during the fight. I mess up a lot when I'm trying to avoid the trees floating in the water.
I've never died but I usually go through like 3 or 4 herbs. Sometimes it's the debris but often times it when he goes under and resurfaces and you have to turn your boat sideways. A lot of the times I feel like there's enough clearance but the waves still knock me off. Even with my smoothest run I still got knocked off once. Never had a perfect encounter. He's the only boss in the game I have to make sure I'm stocked up on healing for.

RE4 on the American Gamecube release is tweaked to be harder than the European and Japanese releases. AI is more aggressive, less money, prices are higher, guns and knife are weaker.

- Flash grenades don't instakill Las Plagas wolves

- Regenerators take 33% more damage from everything but the Knife
Striker, in the original version you had to wait until at least chapter 4-3 to start upgrading it. In later versions they allow you to tune up as soon as the Striker is available in the sewers before Verdugo.
The way item drops work in the GC version of RE4 is interesting. There are no individual weapon ammo caps, so you can get more than 25 shotgun shells, 15 magnum ammo, and 10 mines at a time. Instead the game caps
Also important to note that the Wii version in all regions is tuned to be even easier, and the later HD releases are all based on the Wii version. US Gamecube is the truest form of RE4 even going beyond the graphical downgrade of the PS2 version.
