The issue is the engine. It's the same exact engine they used for Wo Long and Stranger of Paradise: it runs like shit on everything, but especially on GCN cards.
I had to play Stranger of Paradise at like 600p minimum to achieve (unstable) 60 FPS. With Wo Long, I had to reduce the resolution so much it started looking like a 3DS game.
As a comparison, this same card can run Monster Hunter World at 1080p, high-ish settings at well over 60 FPS.

I have some other examples but I end up feeling like it's a thin line between a Monster Hunter clone and a Phantasy Star clone because there were a lot of games in that vein on the Vita.

Unlike Soulslikes, MH-likes are a LOT harder to make. You need monsters with huge movesets, armors and weapons for each one, complex movesets for every weapon.
Soulslikes can getaway with a big stage filled with premade assets, a checkpoint system, and like 5 animations total for each weapon type. They're A LOT easier to make

As someone who actually played the game; it was fun. The monsters were enjoyable. The claw blade was the most fun I've ever had with a weapon in these games. Building stuff was surprisingly enjoyable. Game suffered from performance problems but it was a great time. People just hate on anything that isn't monster hunter.

The moment they introduced Styles in the DS games, the IP lost part of its charm to me.
I didn't like World because the roster was pretty bad, it ran on shit on PS4 (which I bought exclusively for monster hunter), and the endgame was abysmal, but after a lot of doomposting Iceborne brought me back around.

I genuinely liked WH. It was a fun game. Honestly the horrible launch performance was entirely to blame for it flopping.
Rip, the performance issues killed any long term support people would have for the game, or just straight up get people to refund. Also, the monster designs were 90% dogshit. MH is huge because it knows how to make monster designs appealing, and the battles follow through. WH mons just look ugly and too over-designed with the plant shit, also there was like less than 20 LOL
the only good thing to come from it was the weapons. the weapon combat was actually rival worthy to MH. Varied, badass, simple enough, best part. the building stuff was alright but the trap spam became such an over abused shitfest in multiplayer that it made hunts boring.
story dogshit. also lacked the charm MH has of the simple village, go outside, hunt little monster, and work upwards. until some dev nails that early game formula, it is doomed. Ea being the publisher all but sealed WH fate. no sequel will be made. omegaforce will crawl back to shitty quality KT budget. god Koei sucks ass
nothing beats a new mh game, I an't wait for MH6 bros. New world...our first steps, that first hunt, that first carve, its gonna be magic all over again (and look good unlike Rise).

Getting EA involved and trying to treat Omega Force as this big AAA dev was the death of this project. I haven't played Wild Hearts because I'm still on PS4 and don't have a PS5 yet. I really think that no PS4 version hurt this game a lot. I have a PC but I don't play Japanese games on PC, especially not ones that EA is involved with.
I knew that was going to happen when I saw it. It looked like a budget Toukiden, which is just budget Monster Hunter. Plus didn't it have 12 monsters to kill in total? For a $70 game, are you fucking crazy?
