They made a deal with gearbox, they sold the franchise but with a clause that they'll get to make one last remake of the original. RoR Returns is made by Hopoo but any future RoR2 DLC and new games will all be made by gearbox.
You can definitely use skill to override some bad luck, but if you take too long you get outscaled which is a ROR unique thing with the constant scaling. You can take a bad run in Isaac, Hades,
Nuclear Throne far compared to ROR1 because its 2D and feels much more limited in being able to "outplay" enemies

I was really excited for them since I love the idea but they really tried their best to make them dogshit annoying and frustrating piles of garbage. It's like they don't realize that platforming and precision combat isn't exactly RoR's forte, made the controls worse for RoRR and just built all the trials content around precision combat and platforming. Fucking geniuses.
The focus on the precision for some trials and alt abilities made me realize that they may have taken away some wrong lessons from risk of rain 2. Anything that isn't deleting rows of enemies is less fun to me than deleting rows of enemies.

I was playing starstorm about a week before Returns and frankly RoR1 just feels like dogshit to play in comparison to Returns with the new movement, it feels smoother and less janky overall especially now that you can move while shooting on most characters. Is it just a "new bad" thing or is there genuinely something wrong with it?
I do play with controller though so maybe 1 with a controller just isn't the best period.

You used to be able to turn faster after using your primary ability in RoR1
You would instantly snap on to ladders in RoR1, in RoRR you have to not be in an animation to be able to climb. Very VERY annoying.
After a certain height in RoRR 1 you fall faster. You fall at the normal speed for a certain while and then you suddenly fucking crater.

They fucked up the input hard with the turn radius and animation lock in. Attacks hit where you were last frame so frame perfect dodging isn't possible. If you get a bunch of backup mags and hold your secondary ability, it fires at a different rate each time because the input is that buggy.
yeah I've noticed that. needs tweaking. the artificer trial was unnecessarily difficult because if you don't just tap the boost button she fires it off consecutively, and not predictably.

I think he's solid honestly. You can stay in protect and serve as you do it so it allows for repositioning in that mode. The grenade launcher is also solid as well and gives him some much needed range. No opinions on the other alt skill yet.

Shield block 'radius' feels bigger, shotgun has a smidge more range, he has an alt that gives him commando roll instead of bash.
You'll still be playing him by not actually using the shield and jumping around like a madman spamming tear gas hoping to god an overloading doesn't so much as glance at you.
Half of them feel more like they thought of the trial first, rather than the use.
At least some of them are good, like Huntress' alt secondary being perfect for her strafing playstyle.

Just did this one today and it gave me trouble too. You start with 1 keycard so immediately open the left door first. Then farm the smaller guys until you can open a few $90 chests. Keep farming until about 90 seconds left, then go down and fight the scavenger.
For From all Angles, hold the platform where the items spawn instead of on the ground. Stand on your turrets so the vines will target you instead of them, and just jump over the projectiles. Mines should do a decent job of keeping guys off your turrets.
For items, take the ukulele, then the sticky bombs, then the egg
Scavenger, go top left with your first keycard and pick up the arms race items
Fight as much as you can in the center to farm money for as many $90 chests as you can, make sure you pick up the back-up equipment item on the way down
for from all angles place your turrets in the bottom right corner, guard them with a mine, and after grabbing an item run over to them and spam harpoons. You'll occasionally get a crab spawn on top of you but if you keep your mines up it should be completely fine.
Loaded him up to try his skills and he seemed lame. Having to build those lightning things does not sound like much fun.

He's not wrong. If you don't get damage items, you simply won't be able to keep up with enemy spawns due to your low dps. If you're unlucky enough to only get shield/healing items you're fucked because enemy damage will rapidly outscale whatever protection you get, and you still have no damage.

Just beat the final boss as engy on rainstorm. I did not expect the fight to go as hard as it did. Almost died multiple times. I don't know how anyone can fight him without aimbot skills.

I think it's because the maps are larger and items feel much more spread out. The early item pool is also heavily polluted by useless bullshit and if you don't get damage items within the first two stages you're basically softlocked.

the explosion is meant to keep heat uptime up without being near mobs, it's definite better when you have some way to get hp back be it shields or regular hp

I just now discovered this today because of this thread. This makes me feel so nostalgic. This is a really rough estimate, but I think I had well over 700 hours in the original RoR. I got totally addicted to it. Then RoR2 came out and I watched the trailer and streamers play it and my reaction was, "I think I hate this." The shift from 2d to 3d was not what I wanted and I hated the art style and color pallete of it. I sensed that the 3d RoR2 was what the creator really wanted to do the first time, but settled for 2d instead, and that just felt like a poke in the eye to me. I didn't buy or ever play RoR2.
But this trailer for Returns is making me nostalgic. Definitely worth 15 bucks, will buy soon.

That's not how it works. Each run is independent. You just unlock more characters or items in the pool of things that can spawn. Runs are 1.5 hours long max if you win, generally much shorter.

Do R>E>W in both. RoR1 has stars above enemy heads while RoRR doesn't. And the enemies don't appear stunned they keep moving attacking right after sear (W).
I think the things I hate most about the remaster are:
1. Enemies can climb ropes
2. New birds with their dives

If anything, Returns Arti is even worse. Despite scaling with attackspeed now, Flame Chakrams have a very specific range they're even remotely effective at and it is not right in front of her.
The 2D Frost Pillar is a crapshoot and doesn't have Execute functionality like it does in 2.
Flamethrower is now a giant neon sign begging for death, instead of being her only respectable attack outside of nanobomb.
All of her alts require micromanaging to be even remotely useful, which is simply not possible in a game like RoR.
She needs a complete rewrite.

They made a deal with gearbox, they sold the franchise but with a clause that they'll get to make one last remake of the original. RoR Returns is made by Hopoo but any future RoR2 DLC and new games will all be made by gearbox.

You can definitely use skill to override some bad luck, but if you take too long you get outscaled which is a ROR unique thing with the constant scaling. You can take a bad run in Isaac, Hades,
Nuclear Throne far compared to ROR1 because its 2D and feels much more limited in being able to "outplay" enemies

All the trials I've done so far are so fucking awful I can't keep going. They are an absolute black hole of fun.
I wasn't going to like them from the get since to me risk of rain is just starting another run and getting stuff from runs, but they really did want to make them bad.
I was really excited for them since I love the idea but they really tried their best to make them dogshit annoying and frustrating piles of garbage. It's like they don't realize that platforming and precision combat isn't exactly RoR's forte, made the controls worse for RoRR and just built all the trials content around precision combat and platforming. Fucking geniuses.
The focus on the precision for some trials and alt abilities made me realize that they may have taken away some wrong lessons from risk of rain 2. Anything that isn't deleting rows of enemies is less fun to me than deleting rows of enemies.
It would not be as offensive if they didn't purposefully shit up the air control, rope grabbing and turning. I seriously believe everyone at hotpoo fucking despises their players and just wants to make them eat shit.

No, it means the guy with the most items stops being able to pick up items until others catch up in item quantity.
Also don't worry about dying and lagging behind. You'll be respawned as a drone that can pick up items.

They fucked up the input hard with the turn radius and animation lock in. Attacks hit where you were last frame so frame perfect dodging isn't possible. If you get a bunch of backup mags and hold your secondary ability, it fires at a different rate each time because the input is that buggy.

Advice on Scavenger Hunt and From All Angles? They’re the only ones left I need to beat

Just did this one today and it gave me trouble too. You start with 1 keycard so immediately open the left door first. Then farm the smaller guys until you can open a few $90 chests. Keep farming until about 90 seconds left, then go down and fight the scavenger.
For From all Angles, hold the platform where the items spawn instead of on the ground. Stand on your turrets so the vines will target you instead of them, and just jump over the projectiles. Mines should do a decent job of keeping guys off your turrets.
For items, take the ukulele, then the sticky bombs, then the egg
Scavenger, go top left with your first keycard and pick up the arms race items
Fight as much as you can in the center to farm money for as many $90 chests as you can, make sure you pick up the back-up equipment item on the way down
for from all angles place your turrets in the bottom right corner, guard them with a mine, and after grabbing an item run over to them and spam harpoons. You'll occasionally get a crab spawn on top of you but if you keep your mines up it should be completely fine.
The artwork is phenomenal, and it respects the original gameplay while blending in new elements is excellent

He's not wrong. If you don't get damage items, you simply won't be able to keep up with enemy spawns due to your low dps. If you're unlucky enough to only get shield/healing items you're fucked because enemy damage will rapidly outscale whatever protection you get, and you still have no damage.

All the time ill be spamming another ability in a fire fight and take a split second longer to do the action because my muscle memory held down the fire button so im just standing there like an idiot. They are tweaking it per discord updates. Its obvious when holding M1 down with autofire and just spamming M2 sometimes doesn't get the secondary off.

I just now discovered this today because of this thread. This makes me feel so nostalgic. This is a really rough estimate, but I think I had well over 700 hours in the original RoR. I got totally addicted to it. Then RoR2 came out and I watched the trailer and streamers play it and my reaction was, "I think I hate this." The shift from 2d to 3d was not what I wanted and I hated the art style and color pallete of it. I sensed that the 3d RoR2 was what the creator really wanted to do the first time, but settled for 2d instead, and that just felt like a poke in the eye to me. I didn't buy or ever play RoR2.
But this trailer for Returns is making me nostalgic. Definitely worth 15 bucks, will buy soon.

That's not how it works. Each run is independent. You just unlock more characters or items in the pool of things that can spawn. Runs are 1.5 hours long max if you win, generally much shorter.

If anything, Returns Arti is even worse. Despite scaling with attackspeed now, Flame Chakrams have a very specific range they're even remotely effective at and it is not right in front of her.
The 2D Frost Pillar is a crapshoot and doesn't have Execute functionality like it does in 2.
Flamethrower is now a giant neon sign begging for death, instead of being her only respectable attack outside of nanobomb.
All of her alts require micromanaging to be even remotely useful, which is simply not possible in a game like RoR.
She needs a complete rewrite.
