Doom's iconic door sound was a stock sample, but nobody cares.

I'd prefer a game as a general rule to work on gameplay and performance over worrying if their hyper realistic background assets are unique.

Because rayracing isn't there yet to be called a full fledged feature. It's still too unoptimised for the general user. Remember anon, majority of gamers don't have the setup to run RT shit and have good performance. Hell, most devs don't know how to run RT well or how to utilise it effectively.
Every RT game I've played I can juuuust about get a balance between it running at 60+fps stable and looking better than what previous lighting solutions offered. But you always get the weird fade in/out speckled meshes and horrible looking shit. The only game it wasn't horrendously noticeable and I actually kept it on the whole game was Control.
At the expense of halving framerate. And also, most raytraced games look like shit in motion. The denoisers aren't nearly fast enough to keep up with gameplay, so you get a ghosted, speckled mess on everything.

Walking around the precinct was a really astonishing moment for me that I've never really experienced in a game before. I've watched Robocop a shitload of times and being able to walk around in that area which was captured so accurately was wild.

the good thing about UE5 is that geometry and texture resolution are now a flat cost. you can pump as much as you want into a scene and it'll run just as well as having nothing
so right now that kind of sucks but if your card can run a game at 60fps now then it'll be able to do the same in 10 years

If it's 1.0 or 2.0, then yes, it makes it look like a blurry mess with ghosting everywhere.
If it's 3.0 or 3.5 then you won't notice unless you slow the footage down to 25% speed and blow it up to be 5x res the rest.
It's stupid how impressive DLSS 3.0 and moreso 3.5 are compared to 1.0 and 2.0.

The reflections in the game are great. What the screenshots don't pick up well is that in the overcast scene (like his), it is raining out. All the puddles look so grainy and noisy in the screens because they are being rippled with raindrops. Visually, it makes more sense in game.

I'd prefer a game as a general rule to work on gameplay and performance over worrying if their hyper realistic background assets are unique.

Because rayracing isn't there yet to be called a full fledged feature. It's still too unoptimised for the general user. Remember anon, majority of gamers don't have the setup to run RT shit and have good performance. Hell, most devs don't know how to run RT well or how to utilise it effectively.
Every RT game I've played I can juuuust about get a balance between it running at 60+fps stable and looking better than what previous lighting solutions offered. But you always get the weird fade in/out speckled meshes and horrible looking shit. The only game it wasn't horrendously noticeable and I actually kept it on the whole game was Control.
At the expense of halving framerate. And also, most raytraced games look like shit in motion. The denoisers aren't nearly fast enough to keep up with gameplay, so you get a ghosted, speckled mess on everything.

The reflections in the game are great. What the screenshots don't pick up well is that in the overcast scene (like his), it is raining out. All the puddles look so grainy and noisy in the screens because they are being rippled with raindrops. Visually, it makes more sense in game.
