    >the guild sends a newbie to get the most powerful artifact ever just so he can JOIN the guild

Is the guild comprised of demigods or do they just really really don't like John Rogue?

It’s just a fetch quest, seems reasonable for a newb
He’s just a loser, that’s why it’s so difficult for him.

It was a prank, they expected you to get lost.

I played two games through DOSbox with the latest build and both times I ran out of tiles to move. I'm assuming the game is much larger than just two floors, so where am I going wrong?

        on dosbox?
why the frick are you using the win 3.1 and dos version?

window scaling issues through Linux. for a game with ASCII graphics, I really didn't think getting a DOS copy of 3.6.7 would be a big issue.

Just play in the console anon, works great. Gnome console allows smooth zooming-in for bigger fonts
Just make sure your 'black' is lighter than your console's background otherwise you won't be able to see zombies etc.

I play Angband from time to time and usually die around level 25 and then quit for a few months again. I'm way too bad at those classic dungeon crawler RLs but I love CDDA.

I still love DC:SS despite the recent odd design changes
The focus around god choices and player faith makes it interesting to me as a RL

I just can't stand how low budget these games are, even into the 21st century they're sub board game level in their presentation

      >low budget
That’s the charm, they are pure gameplay experiences.
As a 30yo father of 2 I can’t stomach any story heavy games anymore, I just play RTS, GrandStrat, RL’s and TF2

No, I don't like story heavy games either, but a lot of, even modern roguelikes, feel like they were developed in a week for a competition or something. No sounds, music, atmosphere, or anything beyond code executing when you press a button. It's soulless.

Play Brogue if you want a classic RL that’s also really beautiful and well designed art-sound wise while also being ASCII

These games have some of the highest amount of easter eggs and attention to detail put into it all with a great sense of humor. You wouldn't be able to find soul even if you had it shoved up your nose.

Soulash is basically what if DF Adventure was it’s own game.
It’s a but more polished with more variety of skills and magic as well as variety od things the player can do to interact with the world.

You can also try Unreal World and MoonRing
          Both are really cool

I love ADOM and Elona (which is really J-ADOM). I tried out other roguelikes (DCSS, Brogue, Angband, others) but I didn't really like any of them. Anyone else feel the same? Are there other ADOM-adjacents that are good?
    Also for a story:
    >Doing well with a wizard for once
    >Get overcondifent
    >Go into the Tower of Eternal Flames
    >Burn to death on the second floor
    Another:
    >Doing well again, somewhere past the air temple
    >Absent-mindedly melee a doppleganger king by accident
    >Deleted next turn
    Fricking hate this game sometimes
