Root

Root looks like a fun little wargame that's simple enough so that you can have fun with people who don't necessarily play a lot of board games. Any anons here that have tried it? What are your thoughts?

      as
      said, it's not a wargame.
      it is fun though

basically you control one of the factions, and try to accumulate points like in euro games (wich I think it is...?) each faction plays diferently and accumulate points in a diferent manner
the birds have a set of steps thet must follow called "the edict" , the cats have to build stuff as far as I remember, and so forth

I only played once since my board game group is not as frequent as my rpg group and we rotate games each session but it was fun enough for me to consider getting the pdf for the rpg when it eventually came out

My group and I love root.
    Fuck the birds, lizards 4eva.
Partisans and Exiles deck is superior to core box deck.

It's good. One problem is that it has long periods of very little engagement, especially if you're playing with newer players since each player's turn can take a couple minutes or more if they don't know what they're doing, and you're basically just sitting there waiting for your turn to come back around in the meantime.

Not a war game and a bit complex despite having low interactivity for people who don't play a lot of board games. You're getting hooked by the a e s t h e t i c.

Hey rabbits and mice of the Woodland Alliance! We all KNOW that as soon as you win, IF you win that is, the FOXES will just take over and you'll ALL be under their BOOTS!!

Marquise de Cat brings progress, realise this and support your local workshop.

That's an awful nice workshop you have.

It's a board game that requires everyone to understand the roles of every one of the asymmetric races and be of similar skill for it to be fun

It's true. Played the latest expansion a few weeks ago, Badgers vs. Rats. I quickly understood that my opponent wasn't playing the Badgers correctly and needed to be sacrificing more cards to get relics out and secured. Next time we'll be more even.

yes but the rules aren't too complex. the alliance is the worse that it gets and even then it's middling. i managed to get my friends up to speed in about twenty minutes and our first game was exciting. depends on your friends i guess.

Seems like a pretty shallow game where factions stop being fun after a couple of plays. Also 50 to 75% of base game factions are dull to play.

It’s a solid game, but it’s a bit of a noob trap- you think it’s some kind of friendly playful casual game for everyone and it is in fact a turbo asymmetrical psuedo-wargame that will in fact put off the sorts of people first drawn to it.

Root is a fantastic game, but it's not for everyone. It'll take a game or three to wrap your head around the concepts and then you get to play a shitton of games with your friends where all of you slowly start to figure out how to actually win consistently. The most important lesson is to NOT FUCK OVER THE CAT IN THE EARLY GAME YOU FUCKING RETARDS IF YOU FUCK OVER THE CAT, NOBODY CAN PROPERLY POLICE THE GAME AND THEN THE VAGABOND OR WA WILL RAPE EVERYONE TO DEATH.
The game is well made, the production value is good, the expansions are all excellent. The rules (all of them) are on the website and there's an officially endorsed Tabletop Simulator version, so go and try it there if you have TTS.
Anything else you want to know except FUCK THE WOODLAND ALLIANCE?

Easy solution is to buy an expansion and then ban the vagabond

Playing with all factions in advanced setup, drafting factions is fun though.
        >tfw for some reason the retards decided to pick both vagabonds and rats and are now all screaming at each other over ruins and crafted items

          >two of the more annoying factions that everyone has to constantly police are stuck policing eachother instead
          Sounds great

It's pretty good. Balance could be better, but that happens in asymmetric games. The art is faggy af tho.

    >Any anons here that have tried it? What are your thoughts?
Ok. So A, Root is one of the most fun games that I enjoy playing.

And B; ... But I will highlight everything in your opening statement that is incorrect:
    >little game
    >wargame
    >simple
    >fun with people who don't necessarily play a lot of board games.

Hoe the fuck do I win with corvids? For some reason everyone decides to shit on me at all times, even when I'm no threat to anyone. Seeing small chips of cardboard and a single warrior drives people into a fucking frenzy.

Corvids are one of the weakest factions and no faction can beat the entire table ganging up on them

    It's really good
    It's not a wargame
    It's not simple

If you have 3-5 other non brainlets it's great fun. But you need at least 4 people total.

It feels like kingmaker - the game.
It's much more fun once you have people who have played it a bit, because if you don't then you'll go from
    >"ok, we've kept other-anon in check and, HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU WINNING NOW?"
-Because people don't know how your faction works.

It's an OK game. Not a wargame as others are saying though.
