It's somewhat ok in quake 2 because you get massive delay when firing but in quake 3 it's stupid OP.
The better people got and the worse railgun became in term of balance since you could just point and click your way to victory.

Q3A's railgun is gimped to shit, at full stack it will never kill in a single shot.

bruh, before quake live and cpma rail shots hit for 100 and that was enough to instagib you if the guy locked your spawns
even then why the frick would you want it to one shot anyone when it's so easy to hit
it's literally the easiest weapon to kill people with in q3 unless you're in a small corridor spamming rockets like a tard

Let me just reiterate since you seem to be blind or maybe an ESL or something: at full stack, it will never kill in a single shot. you dont even fricking need full stack, you spawn with around 125 hp ticking down anyway.

I don't understand you. In quake jargon a full stack is 200 hp 200 red armor and there's no way you're getting one shot with that.
Nor would you expect any weapons to be able to. Reading your post it seems like you'd want this to happen which is fricking moronic.

            >it's not op because it won't literally one-shot you from full stack
            Mentally ill.

Quake 3's balance is fricked in general. Q3A lightning gun does 8 damage per cell, then Quake Live nerfed it to 7 and it was still the best gun in the game, then they nerfed it down to 6 and it was still the best gun in the game, just not by as much.
Quake Live railgun does 80 compared to Arena's 100 and it's also still oppressive as frick.

incorrect. the nerf to 6 perfectly balanced the LG. rail was the strongest gun in QL despite only doing 80. the duel meta playstyle is literally called "+back rail" because that's all you needed to master to get to a high level.

p.s. okay that was hyperbole. what I meant was that running away with railgun was THE main skill to master. of course you needed a ridiculously broad arsenal of skills to get anywhere in QL duel which is why I never made it.

But if you put a scope on it, you get the sniper rifle. Everyone loves those and they totally didn't ruin the FPS genre.

For me the issue is the fun part of arena shooter fights is moving and dodging projectiles and hitscan that are too strong ruin it

and Tim Wallets proudly takes credit... for a gun that instantly applies damage at any range and has nothing interesting about it except a slow rate of fire and a cool particle trail. it's basically My First FPS Gun you make fricking around in Unity or Unreal. just point and click and boom, big damage.

since mice have gotten so damn good I now regularly hit 70% rail in quake champions. when I first upgraded to my current mouse I honestly hit 75% almost every match for like a week. shit needed a nerf years ago, and it got one. in quake live, RIP.
