The hunger meter is a glorified stamina bar and I've hated it from the start, it's insane how there's no option to just fucking disable it. I'd prefer going back to food being used as healing items.
You can play on peaceful mode.
It deletes mobs too, but I personally hate the combat in minecraft, I haven't encountered much that I need mob drops for, and you can get xp from mining and smelting.
Mobs are annoying too though. It's not like they're fun to fight or the game has very good combat mechanics.
I'm never looking for mobs unless I want to farm em, which is rare as hell, and literally just a chore. Whenever I encounter them, it pisses me off because it's always while I'm in the middle of doing something, and It's always when I'm in a place that would disastrously fuck me up if I died because I wouldn't be able to find that spot again before my very valuable and hard to get shit despawned.
>baby zombies
all zombies. 64-block player detection and no useful drops makes them fucking stupid. they could still serve as early-game mobs with the same range as creepers so they didnt spend the rest of their existence detecting you from miles away and coming to mildly irritate you
zombies have a 1 in fuckoff chance of dropping iron ingots, which is irrelevant unless you're farming them
also fuck drowned there's 0 fucking reason for them to hit as hard as they do, and even if you do manage to kill them the trident's droprate is miserable
Because it's a solved mechanic that exists to take up extra space in your inventory which is already a problem with its limited space and no end of shitty useless blocks. If food was difficult to come by it might be an understandable mechanic that could be worth exploring but it's not.
hunger is shit because they never did anything with it. i love cooking systems in games but minecraft's is so barebones that it only feels like a nuisance. the mods for cooking and hunger are pretty neato though.
It's a survival mechanic in a game that stops being about survival after 10 minutes. It'd fit in fine if Minecraft had other aspects to compliment it like thirst, temperature, persisting status ailments/conditions etc but as it is it just needlessly interrupts the core gather -> build loop.
I don't have a serious problem with it for the same reason others do: it's pretty much irrelevant.
There's pretty much two possibilities with a system you're not willing to put much effort into >it's impactful and a nuisance, thus annoying >it's not impactful so why does it even exist
Hunger is the latter.
I consider Don’t Starve’s hunger to be the former. It’s pretty annoying early game, and mid game it’s bothersome to just eat. I guess to be fair, both Minecraft and Don’t Starve are survival games. Still, I think your description of hunger mechanics in games is spot on.
Creative makes it not feel like a game anymore. Feels less soulful and like an art program like MSpaint.
There should be a mode in between survival and creative that doesn't give you infinite of every item in the game or free flight, but doesn't make you need to eat shit every 15 minutes and maybe let's you drop down more than a couple blocks in height without exploding your legs and getting fall damage.
Unrelated, but I think they should add a grappling hook and climbing equipment. Having to just jump up slopes one block at a time makes getting around in general feel more clunky than it should be. You should be able to toggle on being able to just walk up single blocks in settings.
they need to do what Valheim does and make specific foods give different buffs based on what you're wanting to do instead of just making a stack of cooked beef
>Either becomes a complete non-issue or a constant annoyance eventually throughout the course of the game
Is there ANY game that has a hunger mechanic that isn't either and actually fun to engage with?
There was no reason to change it from just having food heal you. The rotten food poisoning you would actually matter if it was tied directly to your health. NAH FUCK IT JUST MAKE A USELESS FUCKING BAR HAHA WATERMELONS GO BRRRRRR

It's not a real survival element, it's a fucking stamina bar. Hunger is an annoyance to stop players from sprinting everywhere and nothing more. Even with hunger Minecraft is less of a survival game now than it was in Alpha or Beta.
>Runs 30 feet >Eat 12 carrots >Runs 30 feet >Eat steak >Repeat
If you had ever played an actual survival game you'd recognize how fucking awful and tedious this is, zoomie.

In minecraft, it ISN'T a survival mechanic. It's literally just a meter that tells the player they're not allowed to sprint and halts regeneration. You can go a hundred years without eating a peck and you'll be perfectly fine, because Hunger in minecraft isn't actually hunger.
Just thought up Terraria is basically a 2D Minecraft that went right from the beta
>No hunger bar and foods gives you buffs (and some gives debuffs) >No sprinting, only boots that gives you sprinting (needs a bit of startup to start sprinting) and even then you can still die to normal mobs like zombies (unless you already have good armor) >Flying is balanced >Potions are balanced >You have traits for accessories and weapons instead of enchantments >Actually uses all the items in the game for useful things (plants and fungus being useful for potions, while on minecraft you can only make a soup with mushrooms) >You can sleep on beds (and skip time) no matter the time of the day while getting health regen from it (sofas and chairs also give regeneration too)
Literally the only problem is it being 2D, which wouldn't get better if it suddenly turned into 3D since most mechanics needs it
Yeah that's pretty much part of the problem with Terraria. Along with some other things like how it manages to be a bit limitating with modding
>make a game about building >lazily implement a single survival mechanic >all future features are based on exploration, which you can't do because you're now chained to your food farm (and the passive animal spawning bug was never fixed) >also add pseudo-RPG mechanics so idiots compare it to terraria forever

Minecraft is easily one of the most mismanaged games of all time
>Most mobs have a spawning cycle once every game tick (1⁄20 of a second), but passive mobs have only one spawning cycle every 400 game ticks (20 seconds).
Passive mob spawns are 400x rarer than they should be and that's why you need to immediately set up farms in new worlds
consider:
you are supposed to breed animals if you want meat.
it presents a choice of quicker, yet worse food. or slower, yet better food that allows you to store more in your inventory at once.
also animals never despawn.
imagine if monsters never despawned or burned. you would eventually end up with so many monsters after a while that it would lag the game.
minecraft is just a shitty sandbox building game tbh

>7 days to die >nothing cool or interesting to find or explore, buildings are boring copy-pasted bs >leveling skills gets annoying as hell late game >game is shit single player, with the gameplay loop revolving around doing the same boring quests over and over

I would say they're both annoyances
why not just make healing potions?
i guess farming blazes isnt as interesting as hunting animals.

The point is to make shitters like you seethe and crap your pants.

Because it's a solved mechanic that exists to take up extra space in your inventory which is already a problem with its limited space and no end of shitty useless blocks. If food was difficult to come by it might be an understandable mechanic that could be worth exploring but it's not.
It’s only dynamic in the early game like tool durability. Once you can start making farms, it turns into a chore.
>hold right click for 3 seconds every 3 minutes
wow so dynamic
More dynamic then cs frag videos.
hunger is shit because they never did anything with it. i love cooking systems in games but minecraft's is so barebones that it only feels like a nuisance. the mods for cooking and hunger are pretty neato though.

I don't think I've ever once died from starvation or thirst in any game with a survival mechanic now that I think about it. Just annoying busywork.
I don't think I've ever once died from starvation or thirst in the wilderness. Just annoying busywork

Imagine getting hit
NTA but the spider's hitboxes are criminally large
you don't need a hunger bar to enable stackable food and sprinting
These features were all added in the same update. They also couldn't really be split, because being able to stack instant healing items would be overpowered.
Being able to bring 64 of any healing item removed all the tension.
They would if they were instant, but they're not, they just confer a moderate regen, you still have to escape danger to avoid being killed

i dont really mind hunger since salmon were added to rivers. but thats just like people have been saying, having animals not respawn was a mistake.
The game was literally perfect before they added that fucking shit
I genuinely don't fucking understand its purpose
i wish normal forests had as much food in them as mega spruce biomes.
