If you base arguments on achievement percentages the only thing it shows is that EVERY game is dogshit cause a minority of players finish them.
Take Portal 2. 98% positive rating on Steam with nearly 320k votes. Only 35% of players have the achievement for beating the game, and the game is like 8 hours long. It must be a really bad game if 65% of players couldn't even spend 8 hours to beat it.

This is true for every popular game that goes on sale or is given for free
Millions of people that have Portal 2 in their library have never even clicked the install button
In Cyberpunk 2077, a game that takes a similar amount to beat as DD2 and had a disastrous launch, almost 40% of the players have the achievement for beating the game

Despite seeing loads of posts of people complaining about lies of p bosses and saying they dropped the game because of them 41.6% have gotten at least an ending.

Tbqh sometimes people buy games on several platfroms and don't bother to finish them in all of them. I played through Portal 2 on PS3 back in the day, if I bought in Steam now I might just play a few levels out of nostalgia.

Palworld didn’t even have a “story” and people played it longer than dd2. Most of the negative reviews are from people who far exceed the specs to run the game, but it’s an unoptimized mess and they can barely manage 30 FPS.

Because the kind of people who played palworld are the kind of eceleb watching drones who unironically think ARK is good.
All you have to give them is an artificially long list of items to farm and they'll play a game with virtually no content for hundreds of hours, and that's exactly what Palworld is.

        >These moronic devs are so obsessed with HURR MY MAP IS AS BIG AS BRITAIN shit and they keep making empty fricking fields with nothing on them
I have no idea why this became a thing. Gothic 1 nailed the perfect size of "game world in an action RPG almost 25 years ago. One where you don't sacrifice content for scale, and you've memorized all of it by the end.

          Anonymous

It's because people are fricking moronic and don't understand that the bigger you make a map the harder it is to fill it with meaningful content. You waste all of development time on this huge fricking field and then have like a month to put shit in it. There's a reason why Majoras Mask's world feels more alive than BotW's.

Elden Ring’s recycled caves were better, in them you were at least getting a new weapon, armor, summon or SOMETHING and they usually had SOME type of boss to fight, even if it was a repeat at least there’s something
In DD2 you’re lucky if there’s anything more than goblins, and if there’s a chest it’ll have a wakestone shard or a healing potion or some gold or some shit

              Anonymous

Elden Ring was truly held back by its Souls upgrading system, "wow i found a new weapon!...but i cant use it because i dont have 100 types of rare stones...".
I know bells exist and i liked how they fixed most of the problems but would prefer if they completely reworked their upgrading system.

I got what I wanted, I just hope there is a BBI equivelent at some point for end game loops.

I think people who liked DD1 got what they wanted. It's all the shitposters and soulshomosexuals who have never played DD1 or watched a streamer play it that are upset (shiposters are probably pretending to be upsed). Why do you think all the threads talking shit about this game constantly repost the same infographics and collages with trannies and tell the same lies (LESS vocations than in DD1, essential features LOCKED BEHIND microtransactions, and etc.)
None of this shit is genuine.

At minimum, the vocations, monsters, skills, and character creation and customization options of the first game. In years of speculating about what a dragon's dogma sequel could be like I never once imagined they would cut more than they added.

            Anonymous

Nta but I wanted Dragon's Dogma 2, not a half assed remake retreading the same story but worse.
DDO is unironically more of what I wanted the more I learn about it. Just build off of what we had with cool new stuff in a different world. DD2 should have come out like 5-6 years after DDDA on the same engine with more stuff, not this RE engine slop we got 10 years later.

        Person (he/him) who liked DD1, no I didn't get what I wanted.

I liked DD1 and expected a sequel that would iterate on that, I wasn't even necessarily hopeful for the cut content people pine over like the moon and endless tower. I'd have been content with a soft-reboot that rereads the first game but better, and Capcom being Capcom I wasn't even expecting a DA-style dungeon until DLC. Instead 2 just feels worse than 1 in every way bar sheer graphical fidelity, at least in the 4 hours I played. People keep bringing up the vocations because keeping the colour-coding and omitting advanced/hybrid pink/purple/green vocations does make it feel like they're *missing*, if only on the surface level. And splitting vocations feels like padding an underbaked roster as a result, even if say Archer and Thief are presumably more unique than Strider and Ranger.

I only played Fighter and hated losing 3/3 skills for sword/shield in favour of a combined pool of 4. I hated that I can no longer immediately attack with weapons sheathed, given how many actions in DD sheathe your weapons for you. I hated constantly being forced into the sliding animation for daring to brush against a slight incline. I hated the bizarre choice to map dash to the same button as interact (especially when dash is still on its old position of L3 as an independent action, but there's no way to split dash #2 and interact). I hated the game looking so fricking drab. I hated fighting the same goblins/wolves/harpies/cyclopes I've seen a thousand times in 1. Hell compared to the first stretch in 1 I only even encountered a single bandit. The quest at the village to bomb some saurians actually felt like a fun little nod to the first game given that it was initiated by a well, but it's still just fighting the same buttholes again. Obviously my impressions are of the early game and DD1 was itself infamous for being a slow starter, but frick me. I hope it improves later on but for now I've no interest in gambling the time on testing that hope.

I wanted a game that would expand on the building blocks of the first one, firstly by adding things that were planned for it but never made out the drawing board. Not one that would just swap things around by adding and removing stuff to then call it a day.
I was many of the posters who claimed for more DD but i think it was obvious i wasnt calling for side grade.
The graphics are pretty tho dont excuse the performance

I feel the same. I never bought the game expecting some insane revolution. Its literally just dragons dogma 2024. I came into the game expecting to play essentially the same game except with a shinier coat of paint, and I got it. I hope we get a good DA style overhaul with the next expac and an eventual Dogma 3. My only real dissapointment is less skills than the first and I feel the game is getting a little too easy too quick. But atleast I can grab a mob off nexus to adjust mob difficulty.

        Anonymous

I feel the game is getting too easy myself but then I remember what it was like in DD1 before BBI.

I really wouldve loved if they made it optional to level up, both so you can keep difficulty where you want it, and to stay in certain level brackets for pawns, I dont really see how they can do difficulty without doing this.

      >I got what I wanted
what did you want exactly? i wanted dungeons. there's none. i wanted enemy variety, there's less enemies than 1, even pre-dark arisen. i wanted more vocations, i got less. i wanted more skills, i got less. i wanted good music, i got ai generated fantasy music. i wanted funny meme lines, like "they're master works all", "she-goat" or "upjumped zealots". i'm sure you know where i'm going with this. what we actually got was not dragon's dogma. it's a generic open world sandbox with a tiny amount of enemies to hit. this is 30% of a game.

I'm beginning to believe that Itsuno's heart wasn't even in it very much. If the game was truly rushed, you still have things like the repetitive quests involving gathering evidence at the castle to prove the false arisen is a fake. Compare that series of quests to some in the original and you wonder that is the most creative that they could come up with? He is also no stranger to RE Engine since he directed DMC5 that uses it so how much can you excuse away with him getting the game to work on an engine his team is already familiar with?

I almost don't get drops in the capital after the patch. Before it was almost continious statter. I also got a denuvo message and had to verify my copy through some special form. I wonder if they tinkered with the copy protection or changed the way npcs load in. Because now it looks like it takes a shit ton of time to load all characters in the city.

I really don't get what people expected when the guy heading this is the guy who headed DMC5, a game he specifically stated removed consumables to cut down on itemization, then... tied almost all of Nero's new moves to consumable items which spawn less in higher modes forcing you to either never use half his new moves because they break the items or menu MORE than any other game in the series

Yeah I agree, but I am new to the franchise.
I can FEEL the vision as I play, and that is rare for games. All of the complaints I see are actually what make the game great.
It'll deter most normies, but I as well as many others will continue playing the game for 100s of hours. It's a 10/10 game. I don't care how many players it has or does not have on steam.

Dude most of the complains are "its DD1 again but worse"

          Anonymous

Not what I've seen. Most of the negative reviews say the game is "stuck in the past" and "frustrating."
I don't have a frame of reference though since I never played the first one so maybe the criticism you cited is true but I'll never know.
For me the game is a magical experience.

            Anonymous

If you play the first game, you will be annoyed by the general enemies since they are pretty much copied from the first games. It doesn’t help that they didn’t add the eternal ferry stone into the game even though DDDA has one.
