You don't have to go hunt down skills and weapon upgrade materials; you get skill points and memories just for beating bosses.
Sitting down, making a new save file, and playing fast and clean to beat the game quickly is a very pure experience.

Despite there only really being 4 technically 2 playthroughs worth of content I don't think it gets enough credit for how much more enjoyable it is on NG+ cause you can skip most/all of the tacked on RPG shit and the god-awful exploration and just fight people.
Although when you get to that point and have replayed it 15+ times like I have the experience kind of starts to fall apart. You're ignoring all of the shitty worthless loot, there's little value in stealth in most encounters anymore, and you're running past most of the enemies cause it's just incredibly easy to do. Ends up not even feeling like a game and more like a theme park.

Because in NG you don't know how to play the game, and if the combat don't click you are not forced to deal with any of the deeper intended mechanics until you reach the final boss.
So on NG+ or even just starting another playtrough is a must ,because actually playing correctly means you have more engagement with the bosses and significantly less frustration.

Also some of the tools like living force into any of the fun multislash skills is fun, and you don't really get to use them in NG since farming them is extensive.

              >From software games
              >full blown total conversion
              where?
I haven't seen anything but overhauls and backporting game mechanics between games

  11. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

    Because it's terrific

  12. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

I'm the same way. It's because it has tight gameplay that feels very satisfying to master. Genichiro is almost impossible the first time you fight him but on NG+ he's easy, and not because you're higher level, just because you know how to fight him now.

Other Fromsoft games have a "kitchen sink" design philosophy. The player is given many options and expected to find a way to succeed against all odds using all of them. The end result is that a second playthrough is often just as hard as the first. You don't "learn" Dark Souls bosses, you find a way to barely cheese past them and then move on. So depending on your viewpoint, replay just feels like "great, now I have to fight this pain in the ass boss again".

Is it actually considered AAA? I thought studios like From were more AA, while stuff like Call of Duty was AAA

        Anonymous

        >Is it actually considered AAA?
The letter grading system of games has 2 definitions:
        1. Studio gets a letter base on how high end their value chain is.
Which makes console publishers and first party of high end distribution AAA

        2. How much money/time was spent on the product.
In this Metric 90% of Platinum games are B or even C tier, quite a few Nintendo projects are just C-B.
And short dev cycles of PS2/Xbox games can't quality for more than B-A due the insane inflation we seen in the HD generation
In both these Metrics most of FROMs games land on the B grading, where on the money grading you have games like Elden Ring land on AA.

    >>said to have no replayability
    It's not said to
It has none, the boss does the thing and you counter it; so when the boss is done any other playthrough is just repeating the same. It doesn't help that Sekiro has no skill ceiling at all
In Elden Ring you are incentivized to completely avoid attacks by physically running or walking away, which means no stamina drain and faster attacks. Jumping is also rewarded with the ability to simultaneously attack and dodge in one. In Sekiro you are punished for the former and the latter is inefficient and you are only using it for perilious attacks.
In Elden Ring how you react to your enemy depends on your build and you build affects your opponent with poise damage, hyperarmor, magic, charged attacks, ashes of war, parry build, guard counter build, dodge build, heavy weapon, fast weapon,
Sekiro is flashy but has zero substance or depth. The appeal of Sekiro is just how approachable and easy it is, the flashy animations don't make up for how shallow it actually is and that's why people realize the game has basically no replayability.

Oh OP I have the exact answer for you. You're not going to like it but here it is.

You're autistic. People like things that they're good at. You're probably very good at Sekiro, which means you really enjoy the dogshit pseudo-fighting-game pseudo-rhythm-game combat so much that it keeps pulling you back in.

Most not neurodivergent people experience the game, go "huh that was pretty unsatisfying and there's no reason to replay it". You, being a neurodivergent person, specifically a severely autistic person, go "hoo boy I sure love memorizing the rhythm of these 'schwing schwin clang schwing schwing clang' patterns, i want to do this again! And so the game is highly replayable for you.

Hope that clears up your confusion OP.

Modern Ganker (and most modern "gamers" in general) cannot fathom the idea of playing a game to play it, or to test out and experiment with different options provided, despite that being the largest factor of replayability available in a game; actually approaching challenges in different ways. To them, all that matters is reaching the end in whatever way possible. Then there are another faction that can't actually weigh up significance of changes that are present and can't understand how depth works beyond baseline options.
