Saints Row 2 > GTA IV

And I'm tired of pretending it's not. Volition ruined a perfectly good thing because they were too insecure to handle being called a "GTA clone". Imagine if games like Quake and Halo were scared of being called "Doom clones", so they spent the next 5 sequels removing all the guns and making you talk the enemies to death via filibuster. Sometimes, the clone is just better.

Saints Row 2 was only better because of the more serious tone, the boats, the city layout, and the music. It also had a brighter, cleaner look to it in the daytime.

        >what's wrong with PC SR2?
Crashes. TERRIBLE performance, with the game physics logic getting out of step with the framerate at times. God awful controls even if you try to use a controller. No DLC.

With DXVK and The Gentleman of the Row patch, performance and crashes are totally fine. We're never getting that fricking patch source code that main made before he died of cancer. He died the day Nu Saints Row was shown. It'd be funny if it weren't so depressing

From what I heard it was that Mike Watson died before the trailer was officially shown off. It could go either way, but I like this version more because at least he didn't see the underwhelming reveal and the response.

I have DXVK and Gentleman of the Row, but I still crash during the prison break boat. Any tips for more stability?

The main reason for crashes is the game being 32 bit, hitting the 4 GB cap, and crashing. There's methods to make the exe 64 bit capable. Check pcgamingwiki

Major memory leak issue? Game had to run on two consoles with variable 512mb of ram.

This. Most of these problems exist even if you have the Gentlemen of the Row mod, which bless Idolninja for trying to fix that port until the end. Doesn't even matter what PC you have since it'll run bad regardless, or crash. In my case I even had bugs I never encountered in the 360 version too, like sections of the world map not appearing at all.

Oddly enough runs well on modern hardware but in my case after some time entering a region basically makes it impossible to navigate as framerate drops to under 10. Otherwise very shitty performance if your computer doesn't fit the console specs it was made on to a T

They aren't really trying to be the same thing at all. GTA4 is trying to be like HBO crossed with Shenmue. Saints Row 2 is trying to be like San Andreas.

    >Volition ruined a perfectly good thing because they were too insecure to handle being called a "GTA clone".
You know instead of guessing you can actually look up what happened. They weren't insecure about a resemblance to GTA. They were uneasy about the fact their games were cool and evil. They deliberately made the later games moronic because they were afraid of how fun it was to be evil in video games.
