The oneyplays vid is the only one worth watching. They shit heavily on the game. You really need someone commenting on it to make it watchable. I can't imagine listening to this without it.9

Its foreshadowing because R* has been spouting the "the franchise needs to grow up" garbage as the devs at Saints Row did

            > "Grand Theft Auto VI will have a female protagonist, it has been reported. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, known for major gaming scoops over the years, has stated that the next entry in the franchise will be led by a Latina woman who is part of a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired group of bank robbers."
Do you really think they'll stop at a "CIS GENDERED FEMALE"?

This game to me feels a bit like plato's cave, a simulacrum, a representation of a representation that ends up being nothing because of it.
It's obvious the style tries to imitate fortnite, but what people forget is that fortnite didn't get big because of the style but because (and I dread speaking this out loud especially around these parts) because it's a good game. It got popular because the mechanics just werked and the style helped it maintain a certain readability while also being undeniably recognizable and fortnite-ish.
Now fast forward to current day where shit like Hyenas and this dumpster fire exists. Balding execs in suits sitting in meeting rooms saying "we want the fortnite audience" while not understanding that first of all the fortnite audience already grew up from the 12-14 year old kids they used to be into young adults who might even actively reject things they might consider to be childish/remind them of games they used to play as kids, and secondly not understanding that the reason Fortnite got big wasn't because of the styling but because it was a very playable, streamable and watchable casual game that literally everybody could pick up for free, which in turn made you see it everywhere just because it *was* literally everywhere.
TL;DR I agree with OP this shit is targeted at the afterimage of a market that didn't exist in the first place, people are into fortnite not the specific theming, the reason for seeing it everywhere is because fortnite itself was huge, not the style.

There is an audience for anything. This just audience is so incredibly small it does baffle a lot of people that there can be enjoyment in this game whatsoever.

It seemed like it wanted to capture a new audience entirely which was a dumb fricking move for a franchise with one already established. The fanbase was already divided between the ones who liked the more grounded 1 and 2 and those that liked the wacky shit from 3 and 4 which put SR in a unique position in this regard. They could've chosen to either appeal to one side or the other or try and bridge the gap between the two which would of been the best move for them to make, even if unsuccessful it would've been the smartest move they can make. But instead they disregard both in favor of trying to capture some general zoomer/millennial audience. Which was not only really dumb but they did such a bad job with it even their target audience mocked it for being so "how do you do fellow kids?" Volition had the perfect opportunity to come back swinging with GTA being more or less dormant but they fumbled it so badly it may of just killed them for good.

The only thing I’m still unsure about
How well did this piece of crap do?
    Did it have good sales?

Having played about half of it now, I'd say it's caught between trying to appeal to essentially everyone and getting no one:

    1. OG Saints Fans - returning to the grounded crime stuff is a good idea but it lacks any punch because there is no grit or edge.

    2. New Saints Fans - While true fans usually say 2 was the best, it's clear that 3 was where the money was and this game's tone is most in-line with that. The problem is the tone of 3 mostly worked because it was hyper-focused on being wacky, it never tries to be grounded.

    3. Zoomers - the devs clearly want the younger audience interested, but they don't understand them and use terrible writing to appeal to them despite them being an audience who probably aren't interested anyway.

I found this flag inside the Saints apartment and couldn't stop laughing. The game is never self aware enough to realise that it cannot preach about the woes of modern society while your character is an active serial killer.

As much as I've laughed at Assassins Creed over the last two decades. At least Ubisoft has a system for fricking you over that they stick. Volition literally just threw shit at a wall. Might be the worst development studio of the modern era.

I like it, it's fun. It runs perfectly fine on PlayStation 5, It's just more SR3 which is what I wanted. The haters are being hyperbolic and disingenuous.

      Anonymous

      >It's just more SR3
But SR3 was more coherent mechanically, more challenging, had better characterization, better story, had better physics - despite being 10 years older, and was a bigger map despite being a supposedly smaller city.
In two console generations, literally everything somehow got a downgrade. It's honestly impressive in a sad way.

Fun is subjective, so I dunno, maybe you did have more fun with this one, but that's on you.
Also, I know you're fishing for replies, but I don't care because I am disappointed with this game.

        >better characterization
How the frick do you even manage to make Killbane look good?
I fricking hated that guy with the game's attempts to force him as your archnemesis and I'd rather the game didn't kill Loren so quickly and anticlimactically for a dumb joke (haha, we literally dropped the ball on our supposed big bad, we're so funneh), but I'd gladly take him over the morons in cat helmets or that Sergio guy. He showed more personality in the scene where he snaps Kiki's neck than any of the Reboot's antagonists did throughout the entire game.

I feel sorry for all the normalgay dudes out there who don't follow gaming news that saw the game and went "woah they made another saints row game? Sick I used to love playing 2 and 3 on my 360."
Then they boot up the game and hear that dialogue, Chad probably overdosed on onions 10 minutes in.
