Saw this game on Game Pass and I'm downloading it right now. I've never played any of the Monster Hunter games before, what am I getting into?

You wont be able to play with people since you're locked to windows online. Why even bother?

There is no "Windows online". The Game Pass version uses Xbox servers and PC players can play with Xbox players through the Xbox app.
tldr; you're full of shit, maybe?

    >You pick up a weapon
    >You hunt monsters
    >You craft armor and btter weapons with the parts of those monsters
    >You hunter stronger monsters
Repeat this until you can't do it anymore

    Here's the rundown
    >A gorillian text boxes, and your brain will have no reference for sorting out what is most to least important
    >Early game fetch quests that have been miserable since the first game and are miserable now
    >No actual environment to teach you about your weapon choices as you stumble through your hunts. I used to get to late game shit having absolutely 0 fun on hunts that lasted an eternity thanks to me not knowing how to really fight
    >Tons of mis-inputs due to the number of actions you can perform
    >(You) not understanding the lack of lock on
    >People b***hing online about casualization but the core fun parts of the series are still there. The biggest barrier to entry was always the games being absolute shit at teaching you
Basically, after you get through the shitty fetch quests, go online and look up tutorials for your weapon. Once you're actually capable of having fun, you'll naturally want to learn more about other mechanics.

      >fetch quests
      ???
      >no environment to teach you about your weapon
you mean like the early game quests with easy monsters and the training room with a combat dummy and all your possible combos listed on screen?

        >implying
That seriously teaches you frick all. That's an environment to learn, but not an environment where they teach. SnS, the most accessible weapon, gives you a far from optimal combo as your go-to. Nor is there anything there about its ability to parry, or how the bread and butter combo ender does more damage if its preceded by three light and three heavies. Or how your shield doesn't decay sharpness, or that you can activate the backstep combo from a shielding, basic attack, and rolling. I am a walking example of giving these weapons to morons, I know those training rooms and early monsters cannot help us.

There's 14 weapons; how do you expect them to present all that info to you? There's already a manual for each weapon built into the game through the pause menu. Some games just aren't meant to be accessible to morons

      >gorillian text boxes
      Non-ironically brain issue.
      >frtch quests
There's like 1 or 2 at village rank one, and they show the locations on the map, with instant pickups.
      >not knowing how to fight
Skill issue, there's a training room where you can test shit out. They also show most (all depending on the weapon) combos in the menu.
      >mis-inputs
      ?
      >lack of lock on
      Whats the issue here?
      >casualization
Is real. It sells more, and that's why Capcom does it.

        >non-ironically a brain issue
Go back to being someone who's never played these games. The text box dump will not inspire excitement or interest if you are an adult.
        >there's like 1 or 2
And they're a horrible way to spark your interest. There's already a movement tutorial mission at the start of Rise.
        >Skill issue
Yeah, thanks. That much is obvious
        >?
What? There are a lot of things you can do depending on your weapon, and when you're trying different things out right at the start, you're probably gonna frick up.
        >What's the issue here?
There is none with the game itself
        >It's real
It's generally an improvement so long as it doesn't defeat the purpose of hunting by automating too much of the experience. Fleeing monster for example aren't as rewarding when you don't have to track them yourself.

There's 14 weapons; how do you expect them to present all that info to you? There's already a manual for each weapon built into the game through the pause menu. Some games just aren't meant to be accessible to morons

Well I made it through and I'm moronic so I guess that's checkmate.

I can't imagine what it would be like to have your fist MH game be Rise
It's like having your first Final Fantasy game be XV

remeber this is not a buttonmasher. your input counts and the action can't be cancled. that will propably get you killed a lot of the times.

As another anon whose first mh game was rise this is my experience after about ~200 hours

    >A frickload of text boxes with paragraphs telling you shit because capcom doesn't know how to properly do tutorials.
    >some grinding for mats late game like armor spheres, zenny, monster mats that have less than 3% drop rate
    >repetitive, repetitive, repetitive quests and quest structure
    >higher end monsters are just hp sponges and hit really hard even at times one shotting you even if your gear is fully maxed out because you didn't collect an extra 1 def spiribird
    >visual diarrhea game looks like it was made in 2011
    >absolute dogass anime style shit story and bland milktoast characters
    >on switch, shit sub 60 fps basically almost unplayable
    >fast monsters so getting in hits takes awhile or you'll have to time them correctly

That's all off the top of my head. The game is meh. Being on pc is way better though.
