I want to try out WoW with some friends and SoD looks interesting. I'm not sure whether I want to play Tank Warrior, or Healer Paladin. Would it be hard to switch between Heal and Tank on a Paladin later on?

what's the verdict on WoW these days? my parents were always against getting a subscription when I was younger so I missed it during its hayday. Is it still worth it?

      >what's the verdict on WoW these days?
Get a time machine that takes you back to anywhere between 2004 and 2010.
The game was big mostly because of the environment surrounding the game. The early state of the internet as a whole, normalgays still seeing both games and the internet as something nerdy thus staying very far away from both. The honesty of game culture in that time period before greed and managers took over everything. Player culture as a whole, players were open to spending time and effort with their games. Trying stuff, following rumors, experimenting just for the hell of it.

QRD: Don't, it's not just the game but everything around it.

Is there any game that's free from this, or would you say it's over for the genre?

          >Is there any game that's free from this, or would you say it's over for the genre?
In the MMO genre? No. I don't think any MMO is "free from this" and I played a good amount of games from the genre, including Everquest and Star Wars Galaxies (both before and after the combat update).
The genre thrives on three things:
          >the world (immersion)
the areas, exploration, NPCs, factions, lore, minigames (such as fishing), everything that makes you believe that you are part of the world even for a second
          >the community
roleplayers, fellow faction members, opposing faction members, etc.
The more they act like a person in that world, usually the more immersive the world gets.
and last, but definitely not least...
          >novelty
I've said this many times and I'll say it again, the genre thrives on novelty. Early on, it was simply the internet itself (ultima and everquest). Sometimes it was that you got a full sandbox with non-combat roles and the ability to build things (starwars galaxies). Sometimes it's a revolutionary system like nodes.

I don't know what the next big thing is going to be. Maybe AI integrated into a game and npcs can fully react to your chat messages. Maybe a new VR machine with even better controls (see the explosion of VR chat a few years back). Maybe it will be an Augmented Reality MMO where the real world is the game world (see the insane explosion of PokemonGO in 2016). Maybe that SwordArt Online-tier dream machine that allows you full sensory experiences. I have no clue.
What I do know is that it needs something new, something that at the very least feels big.

I enjoyed Classic and SoD P1 greatly though and those were my first times playing WoW.

          >I enjoyed Classic and SoD P1 greatly though and those were my first times playing WoW.
I'm happy for you. Truly. I only wish you could experience the golden age of the game too. As someone who experienced this period, I just can't bring myself to classic.

but I did and I am quite happy with a lot of single player games at the moment (such as Kenshi or modded Skyrim).
Your personal experiences are not indicative of others' experiences. I love fishing minigames.

The original wow was a once in a life time experience, for me that is. Havnt played any other mmorpg with the same feeling and community since.

The wow classic launch was as close as it gets, but still far from it since people knew how to play now.

you missed out. Game died because phase 3 was made for raid loggers. level 60 isnt even avaliable and its already on raid logging status like the end of a retail expansion.

Ok, I googled it. How does it ruin the game? I arrived with the preconception that raiding is the intended endgame by design. Was there supposed to be something else?

do you really need to be spoonfed why game design that makes you not play the game is bad? Fricking zoomers I swear to god

Ok, now that I think about it, it does sound awful for a subscription based game. I never really engaged with that business model before, so it didn't seem like an immediate flaw to me.

Literally everything else. pvp, open world content, professions, 5man content. Literally everything in the game that isnt paying a sub so you can play for an hour once a week. also
          >I arrived with the preconception that raiding is the intended endgame by design
          >endgame
Its not even at the end game yet, the level cap is only 50, its a "level up raid" not to mention that most people dont even like raiding. Its an mmo, youre supposed to enjoy an online world filled with people with tons of things to do, phase 3 doesnt even have gameplay. Its use addons to speedrun incursions for xp, gold and gear while not even killing anything and then you have nothing to do until your guild has a raid day. Thats the entire game for the next couple months, there is no reason or benefit to doing anything else. Enjoy.

That does seem pretty bad. Especially no pvp, I was pretty excited for that. I already gave them my money and the early levels seemed fun enough, so I guess I'll just ride it out and drop it if I get bored.

Whatever you do, do not make a character on a PvP server, that's a classic rookie mistake.

I already made that mistake. Random pvp encounters while leveling sound fun. Why is that bad?

Random pvp counters aren't "you run into your peer on the opposite faction doing the same content and an epic duel ensues", it means "max level bis raid gear piss bottle collector makes your game unplayable".

Never understood these types of complaints, it is entirely your own choice to play that way. If you're in a guild that demands power gaming like that and don't enjoy it then you chose the wrong guild.

SoD is fun, but the current phase does have a bit of a lack of "max" (lvl 50) lvl content. I'd say nows a decent time to start leveling a character up to the max, get all your class runes, run the level up raids while leveling. People will say to spam incursions for levels and while they are fast they are also soul draining and boring. When phase 4 drops the game will be popping off between all the 60 dungeons, MC, AV, and any other new content we get

      Anonymous

Have they said if 60 content is phased as well or it's all just dumped out at once?

        Anonymous

They haven't said anything, I don't think we would get dumped on with raids past MC & ony initially. DM might also be locked but hopefully it isn't

        Anonymous

Pretty sure they're trickling it out bit by bit, similar to Classic. MC is definitely going to be available in some form or another (tuned to SoD standards or just as it was which will be a cakewalk), and they teased Kara crypts as a max-level instance, raid or 5-man we don't know.
I wouldn't hold out hope for Kara crypts, the SoD devs seem pretty fixated on just porting retail mechanics to Classic when they can be bothered to do anything at all so I suspect they either walk back Crypts altogether or just make it some spot for doing retail-tier endless grinding/dailies.

They need to stop being homosexuals and let lonewolf melee hunter be the way to play melee. I’m sick of BM and braindead pets. For 2 weeks in p2 we had glorious lonewolf melee but homosexuals cried till dual wield got nerfed on top of normalized.

Make lonewolf 40% to completely snuff out any chance of BM being the best again and make it remove deadzone. Make raptor strike have a 4 second cd so you can maybe design it having an actual rotation or decision making that involves shots. Add killshot. Add harpoonshot. I want to use both melee and ranged weapons in a high apm and movement intensive rotation that doesn’t involve an npc doing 40% of my damage. Pets are brain dead and boring. They should be the training wheels you remove when you actually want to play the class.
