I don't get the appeal of this game, most of the 'dungeons' were samey, skyrim/oblivion tier samey and the bosses were the worst bosses of any zelda game

You're tripping. Goht is the most fun fight the franchise has ever seen, Odolwa and Majora rock too. Gyorg I'll admit is awful but Twinmold is fine. Did you play the 3DS version? That one completely changed and ruined every boss fight.

The appeal of BotW is fairly simple. Its an adventure game in the truest sense.

BotW gives you ONE quest: Save The Princess. The entire game about you figuring out how to do this all on your own. The final boss sits in the middle of the map, visible at all times. YOU get to decide when you go there. You start off bare-ass naked with a tree branch and you have to GROW into a hero capable of saving the princess. This is not done by a series of linear gated checkpoints. The game doesn't decide when you are ready to progress. YOU get to go off exploring on your own, choosing YOUR OWN adventures and creating YOUR OWN solutions to adversity using YOUR OWN wits and resources.

All of this wrapped up in a world crafted from interconnected systems of climate/environment/weather - which inform the gameplay and force the player to adapt to the world around them. Its incredibly mature game design for a title of this scale and scope.

Taking ownership of your own journey, adapting to the changing world around you and creating your own solutions to adversity. This appeals to the adult mind because this is how adults live their lives.

You have to outright dismissi a wealth of content experienced in open organic gameplay, including the whole topographical exploration of the and survival aspects of the game.

It's a trademark sign of ADHD people like yourself, to seek instant gratification and only prioritise combat and tangible benefits of collectibles / tasks in games. They find it difficult to process any kind immersive experience of adventure and freedom that everyone else takes from BotW.

Nintendo's Zelda game deserves every bit of acclaim flung its way. Its a staggering achievement in game design which developers are still trying to fully understand today.

              Now continue seething.

Terminally deluded. Zelda is under-cooked, pseudo-ghibli soft boi bullshit, there is NOTHING compelling, evocative, wondrous, interesting, profound, thought-provoking, beautiful, or ennobling about the series anymore. I'm an idort with Switch, PS4/PS5, PC, and a Steam Deck. Last Xbox I bought was 360 because there's no point in owning an MS console anymore since everything "exclusive" also launches on PC by default.

I enjoyed BotW. Didn't blow my mind but I put a good number of hours into it and enjoyed my time with it. There were things I liked about it and things I didn't like but it was overall enjoyable enough that I'd be down to play the sequel.

Late to this particular party, but for anyone wondering what this anon is talking about, I'll break down what's possible in this game:

        >You can fight things
        >You can run across really green fields
        >You can tame and ride a horse
        >You can climb ubisoft towers to fill in your map
        >You can do dungeons, most of which take 5 minutes
        >You can paraglide from high places
        >You can cook!
        >You can cut down trees for wood or to make a bridge
        >You can surf on your shield in case you want to pretend to be Legolas from Helm's Deep, but this ruins your shield
        >You can constantly swap out weapons that break too easily for new ones!
        >You can climb stuff, but not when it's raining, and only while your limited stamina allows
        >You can follow the """story"""
        >You can find koroks so you can get increased inventory space for all those breakable weapons and a golden poo as a reward for finding them all
        >You can do each and every one of these activities a million times each!!
Obviously, none of this has ever been possible in video games before Nintendo did it in BotW.

Breath of the Wild is fun not because you can gmod it, but for the same reason that people find WoW quests like "kill 20 boars" fun.

BotW has core gameplay that's FUN to execute. They give you a simple toolbox of abilities and weapon types, and then you can take your own approach to even small situations, and all of the tools are fun to use.

It feels good to fight a lynel, whether you're trying to juke it, go toe-to-toe and execute perfect parries/blocks, use the "normal" mechanics of hitting the weak point and punishing, etc.

Same thing in WoW. It's most enduring core draw has been that it is fun to do your class's rotation/abilities.

If you have satisfying core mechanics, sometimes it's enough to just give players an excuse to go out and use them. Hence shrines and random mob camps and koroks.

It's funny to me that when a game has a decent mix of gameplay and cutscenes/story/exposition, people on here complain about movie games but when a game just has fun core mechanics and then the story is an excuse to use them all, people are similarly buttmad.

I will agree that BotW is pretty fun, and then you see all 5 enemies in the game and all 3 weapons in the game and it's done. Copy and pasting an hour of fun in a map the size of 10 Skyrims is not a good game.

When each of those 5 enemies can be wildly different depending on the environment you find them in, it's a little more acceptable.

              >Lizalfos in a body of water are like extremely dangerous+mobile, but susceptible to electric arrows
              >Lizalfos in an enemy outpost often stick to long range attacks, and staying out of meleeing distance from you compared to the other enemies
              >Lizalfos on a flat plain will use "run up and tongue-lash, and run away" tactics, which can easily overwhelm you in large numbers if you don't use good crowd control

Maybe my mistake was beating ganon first. But in retrospect I think it was the only way I could have had the most fun. Hyrule Castle is the best area of the game and going in blind, scavenging for what few weapons I could find was really fun and challenging. I was disappointed later when I learned the Blights were reused as bosses in divine beasts. The point of beating the divine beasts is so they don't appear in the final boss.

For me the first 8-something hours it took for me to finish plateau, explore the castle, learn blight patterns, gather weapons, and beat ganon was a 10/10 experience. But the rest is like a 6/10. I wonder what it would have been like if I did the rest of the game before the castle.

This game throws mystery and imagination away, every time you find something interesting in this empty map it's nothing but an elaborate shrine puzzle, I don't hate the game but this is my least favorite take on Hyrule, every time you feel like you found something the game ruins it with "I'm Onions-Lak and I have a test for you hero"

I love BotW and I'd agree the theme of everything being a sheikah monk test was an obvious compromise to get the game out in time and probably hurts it more than it helps.

That's why I'm excited about how the whole point of TotK seems to be to give the dev team the proper time to fully flesh out the world that BotW started working on rather than starting over fresh again and risking running into that same problem.

I saw that and I'm praying that it's actually something and not just concept art

It's not going to be a Dark World, the actual concept art shows it being a map room depicting what is presumably an old version of Hyrule. The glyphs line up with what we saw on BotW's overworld from the trailers

Yes. Sky islands are not ripped from the surface. They appear ABOVE it. We see chunks of the islands falling down and Link trying to reverse this. My guess is that a some point Link will fail and the sky will merge creating the new/old Hyrule in the map. The same world but radically different. Classic Zelda.

The idea that Nintendo have just spwnt 6 years reusing the same world and just added sky islands is fricking nonsense. Come the frick on.

There's not enough islands in the sky to completely cover Hyrule and the map shown is not "radically different", it has the same layout and elevation

These people put that "due to covid 19, delays and such" message in every Direct, it's not just possible but highly probable.

You already know you're wrong. The art book leaks only hint at the wealth of secrets Nintendo hiding. You are only going to end up humiliated all over again and then spend another 6 years seething about it. Why do you do it to yourself?

If TotK actually has a second overworld on par with BotW's then I'm all for it, but it's not going to be caused by the islands merging with regular Hyrule and the map isn't an indication of that happening at all, otherwise the layout wouldn't be the exact same as BotW's

You've said this before but haven't actually provided anything to back it up besides headcanon, Nintendo doesn't give that much of a shit about 2 to reference it. The artbook showed that might change in TotK, one of the concept art pieces looks similar to the back of the Forgotten Temple but cleaned up and with a doorway added to it. Whether what's behind that door is worth it is a different question, but at least they're making some strides to fix up what BotW was lacking

To me it's very obvious that the shrines were a compromise on the game devs part, they couldn't figure out a way to naturally incorporate content into the world, so a lot of the game content is completely disconnected from map. The shrines were probably made by a subteam who had little connection to what the guys working on the world where doing.

This is why every shrine looks the same, have the same music and is so far underground that the actual world terrain has no bearing on what's inside it. They exist in their own little pocket dimension which makes them way easier to design.

        >why don't you like shrines again?
Overabundance in the overworld leading to repetition, though they're beat out by Koroks for being the majority of what you find while exploring
Most are either basic one-room puzzles or reward shrines for completing something simple on the overworld (e.g. cup in hole, give X item to Y NPC, etc). Very few provide lengthy puzzles or anything akin to a dungeon from past games
Long loading times compounded by how many reward shrines there are
Negatively impacted worldbuilding since all shrines are just tests for the hero and all the Sheikah tech placed there is solely to give benefit to a person who wouldn't exist for 10k years, making it all feel like a big playground designed for Link instead of an actual world
Lack of unique rewards akin to dungeon items from past games
        Repeated content and visuals

This was my biggest problem with the game and it doesn't look like they plan on fixing it with TotK.

Very succinctly said. The rewards wouldn't have been too bad if they were just a bit more varied, didn't lead to an obnoxious loading screen every time, and overall felt more incorporated into their environments.

Like the other guy said, BoTW was fun to explore, but I was always disappointed when I saw something really cool and it just ended up being a shrine.
I looked so fricking hard for a temple or a dungeon, imagine creating this super detailed world and at the same time deciding it's time to get rid of so many series staples.
This criticism isn't contrarian, it's the general opinion on the game. Super insane world and exploration, not much to actually find aside from the landmarks.

If BOTW had dungeons and temples hidden in those landscapes, each with a unique boss and tool, it would've been a much much better game.

It's crazy how much the shrines change the context for doing things, especially since it's usually not even about the fact that you're usually just getting Pieces of Heart--some people still complain about that, but most of the time it's just the actual shrine itself. If you stripped away the Shrine and still have it just be Spirit Orbs + the occasional unique loot, I honestly think a lot of people would complain far less. After all, that's how it's been for a lot of the rest of the series.

      Anonymous

I would complain less. I'd rather just find cool stuff than do a same-y shrine for a lame orb.

        Anonymous

Well yeah, I imagine for a good chunk of people it'd be merely complaining less, since BOTW's item systems means that the reward pool is still limited, but just taking out the shrine and keeping the orb is what I'm talking about. For a lot of people, that'd contribute a lot to areas being more varied, as otherwise it all has to be contextualized as being part of/having ties to everything else connected to the Shrines.

It's because the game is predicated on a sense of adventure in a wide, open, and mysterious world. Having most of the side content lead to a shrine takes away some of that sense of exploring the unknown that's integral to adventure, because it was always just something tied to shrines.

If Shrines were replaced with treasure chests would you feel the same way? Like "Oh there's no exploration here, since the end result is just a treasure chest"

            Anonymous

If you've read the other posts, you'd already have your answer. In any case, that's a simple false equivalence: anybody could take a Piece of Heart analogue and shove it into a treasure chest, whereas the Ancient Shrines are always tied to the Sheikah and their challenges. Even though there's still the challenge of the exploration, the sense of mystery or being this huge world where lots of people have lived and imparted their shit/left trinkets/challenges/ruins/etc. is drained when it's almost always just the Sheikah.

What exactly is wrong with getting a shrine reward? I have seen plenty of exploration focused games with less material rewards than that. For those more impressive encounters they don't even give you a puzzle because discovering the shrine was already the interesting part.

I would think the complaint is justified if you only ever went to shrines and only did shrine puzzles, and I also think it's valid to bring up there are only like 4 or 5 interesting shrines like the maze or eventide or that dark place.
So it just feels off to complain "why did they give us something cool to do just for another orb?" Do you know want cool things to do in a video game?

            >they don't even give you a puzzle because discovering the shrine was already the interesting part
But that's exactly what's part of the complaint. You hear a rumor about some secret in a nearby area or spot a strange structure in the distance, and while initially one might wonder about forgotten treasures and mysteries big and small that will go unsolved but not unexperienced/unchallenged, it almost always turns out to just be tied to the shrines.
            >why did they give us something cool to do just for another orb
            >do you not want cool things to do in a video game
You're not really grasping the complaint at hand. There's nothing wrong with the orb, it's the shrine. You take down the shrine leave the same rewards in the same place and a lot of people would enjoy that a lot more. The complaint is that the shrine takes away the cool factor.

This. The Forgotten Temple shouldn't have a shrine as a reward, it could easily be armor or even a new weapon or hold a unique boss to fight for materials. If the shrines at least looked different depending on the location they were in, that would be fine.

                >Get this armor after doing all 120 shrines
That's the problem - you wouldn't know that the first time going there UNTIL you complete all 120 shrines. Going there the first time, you'd think it was just a regular shrine. The fact that you HAVE to do all the other shrines, including that one to get that armor is disingenuous and flawed. The armor should have been the reward in the first place, not the reward for doing all the shrines.

No. Because the original complaint was that there was no armor reward there. Now the goalposts have moved to it being a bad piece of armor? And that you have to play the game first to get it? The only problem is you.

Well it's important to stress that even the Spirit Orbs are perfectly fine, especially since the existing shrines already have some variance about whether or not they contain unique armor pieces and such. I do think there would be benefits, but just the basic stripping away of the Shrine is already good enough. After all, a lot of the time in the past, you'd just get rupees or Pieces of Heart anyways, with Spirit Orbs being exactly that

Don't see how the shrine changes anything. You're not upset about the orb reward being the same for everything, just the shrine? Why the frick does that matter?

IMO it's pretty good because in a previous zelda game you would open a door to a little cave with a chest that just gives you a gold rupee you don't need because your wallet has been maxed out for 10 hours already.
If you want to complain that the game has no dungeons go ahead but the exploration part of this game and your reward for engaging it is better than all the other zelda games.

                >Why the frick does that matter
There's really not much to be said that hasn't already been started. Again, it's mostly just with the concept of exploring the forgotten and unknown. It's hard for it to actually feel like you're delving into such thing when it generally always ends with being the Shiekah once again. Like I actually agree with the rest: from a raw interactive standpoint, it's all very well done and ultimately streets ahead of the other games. It's just the sense of adventure that feels like it isn't living up to what it could be, thanks to the shrines

What a fricking moronic complaint. Nothing of this drivel gives any kind of convincing argument as to why the shrines are bad. You are literally just inventing your own logic so you can complain about it.

                >You are literally just inventing your own logic so you can complain about it.
I'm honestly impressed that you've managed to word "forming your own negative opinion" in such a way

Yes anon. The game is built around the Sheika and their tech. Did you miss that in the tutorial?

It's fair to take that stance--albeit less like a total douche like you did--but that's a different discussion about how they could've done more to pump up the Sheikah's mystique and character if they wanted them to still be intriguing while on center stage/behind everything, what more they could've done to integrate them into the areas if they were to be a major element, and even then it's a bit silly to still have everything tie back to them, given the time gap and nature of some of the shrine quests.

                Anonymous

The sheikah have always been mysterious. Its far better and more intriguing the less we know about them.

Nintendo just uses this vagueness to their advantage because Nintendo just want to offer up cool and and engaging gameplay concepts while you're mad the didn't explain the lore about it. YEESH.

                >it's far better and more intriguing the less we know about them

                >pump up the Sheikah's mystique and character
they should've shown less and kept what they showed more intriguing, and part of being intriguing is being mysterious. You'd have to be disingenuous to interpret otherwise: the rest of the posts were all about exploring the UNKNOWN and experiencing mysteries instead of solving them.

I could never understand the complaint about shrines. Essentially there were similar to caves in the older games. Those ranged from minor puzzle to instant reward room.
Most of the older games had around 20-30 caves whilst theres 120 shrines.
The only major thing that caves in older games had compared to the shrines in BotW was that some of them had an additional exit to a new area.

The puzzle solving is not bad, but that is as far as I can get to complementing the walking shrines and shrines in general. Because it's all they offered, puzzles. And I wont deny zelda has for most of its lifetime been pretty puzzle focused but actual enemies and fighting challenges existed as much as well. botw really ignored it this time around because it want's you to toy around with gravity gun physics shenanigans. The design of breath of the wild is far too obsessed to make an example of its engine rather than anything else expected of a zelda game.

Fighting in zelda shines mostly from the threat of general enemies scattered across in places where puzzle solving may also be needed to continue. the ganon goop does not replace that experience well at all. zelda in general was never a good action game 1 on 1 with enemies and it's why so many bosses are often gimmicky to make it seem more interesting than what fighting mechanics alone can provide. however, zeldas action really is the best with the endurance aspect, and it's one of many reasons why I and others b***h about there being none. generic mobs do eventually wear you down. Earlier zeldas did not let you hoard much shit so of course you could often find hearts in jars, etc. But this game is far better suited for getting into gauntlets that have both elements of puzzle solving and action. for some moronic reason they keep those aspects separate from each other. and the moronic reason is most likely which I mentioned before trying to make you wank as much as you can to using your iPad stasis to launch rocks in your safe puzzle room with frick all interesting environment.

The divine beasts would have been great if they had been longer. You had to do a lot of combat just to get access to them. The only.thing they were really missing was a mini boss. But, they were each kind of a mini boss themselves. I get the criticism though. I was a little let down after I did my first divine beast.

Big difference is that you don't know EXACTLY what you're getting in each cave. In BOTW, there is a 100% chance it's a shrine and within that shrine there's a 100% chance you'll get a spirit orb. There's absolutely no mystery or anticipation because you already know exactly what's going to happen.

Strong weapons get dropped more frequently the more enemies you kill. There is no shortage of them at all if you actually use your weapons frequently. It gets to the point where you are consistently throwing out strong weapons before they can even break because you keep finding more of them faster than you can use them up.

Trash mobs should barely make a dent in your strongest weapons' durability. They're worth fighting if you need the loot or you need to get them out of the way to explore for treasures/koroks.

Also even trash mobs start to drop decent weapons when you've fought them enough. Royal Broadsword drops should be common by the time you've gotten to endgame xp.

Every reward being orbs wouldn't even be bad if the game had more upgrades other than healt and stamina. One makes the game less annoying to play, the other is almost useless, both are easily replaceable by food and neither changes how you're playing.

This was my problem with korok seeds, personally. After 50 or so I don't want to collect them anymore. I already have way too much inventory space, and you can collect at least 400 to max out your inventory? Yeesh, I had to avoid every single one afterward so the game wouldn't be even more of a cakewalk. And then I find out that there's an additional 400+ more that exist solely so people don't have to try in the slightest if they want to max their upgrades.

Would've been nice if the puzzles were harder, and you could spend excess korok seeds on maybe something like a cosmetic or something. Something so the excess don't rot in my inventory. You don't need to give me a reward for collecting them all, but at least justify the excess I have in my inventory. It'd be like if I got a 900 rupee reward, but the game had no shops to spend it on, and I'm supposed to just look at the rupee number.

        >content
Goddamn, this is the extent that you people are going to defend the game. Exploration is now content rather than a basic function for any game that should be expected as the norm.

          Anonymous

It's not just exploration, it's a trial to actually get up to the tower. The flying guardians and other enemies prevent you from just climbing up in a straight line, and instead you're meant to traverse the exterior while looking for stealth/cover to survive while getting to the top. The koroks to be found on the way up also add to the difficulty if you actually go for those. If that's not "content" then what is? You may as well not even play any open world games if that kind of thing doesn't appeal to you.

            Anonymous

            >If that's not "content" then what is?
That is playing the game. That's the problem, BotW is so barebones with its elements that the definition of 'content' has been warped and changed to make it appear as a good thing. What you explained is the bare and basic minimum of what a game should have, let alone a Zelda game.

Shit, I can do the same for Death Mountain Trail leading up to the mountain itself.
            >At the start, you have to fight red tektiles while going up the trail. You also are able to find hidden pockets that can be revealed by bombing them which contain a golden skulltula and rupees respectively. There's also a hidden grotto as you make your way up the mountain trail which is blocked by the constant eruptions which can cause damage if you don't have the proper equipment on hand. Upon climbing the wall leading to the Death Mountain Crater, you have to avoid or attack Skullwalltulas. There is also a gossip stone present and finally reaching the top of the trail, you can encounter Biggoron to the right as an adult or a hidden fairy fountain to the right as well as entering the crater in the center.

I wouldn't call any of that 'content', but note all the details that I mentioned compared to yours. I didn't even mention Goron City or Dodongo's Cavern, the former having its own set of elements to encounter and let's not forget Adult Link's trek on that trail which also has its own unique layout and tasks to do. Exploration is not content, especially if you don't have anything to explore.

              Anonymous

I don't understand your philosophy of what "content" is at all then. What you described absolutely counts as content just as much as anything that you do in a dungeon. What is the difference?

                Anonymous

                >What is the difference?
One game was measured by its presentation and playability (OoT) and the other is measured by how much stuff is in the game (BotW). No one cared how much stuff you collected, they cared about how Zelda transitioned in 3D.

                [...]
Most of what you would do in a standard Zelda dungeon would be considered "just exploration" by your definition. You just have a fundamentally flawed understanding of what video game design is about.

Here's the thing: Ocarina wasn't marketed as a game where you explored, it was marketed as a Zelda game, in 3D. Everything you mentioned is the basic requirements of a game. Basic shit shouldn't be praised as groundbreaking.

That's entirely false. Both games are measured by both presentation/playability AND how much stuff there is in the game. This is just extremely bad faith.

                >Everything you mentioned is the basic requirements of a game. Basic shit shouldn't be praised as groundbreaking.
Who's saying it's "groundbreaking"? I'm just saying there are parts of BotW that I would consider content that people here are trying to pass off as literally nothing, when it's the same type of thing that 90% of other Zelda games consist of.

                >AND how much stuff there is in the game
The frick it is. I've heard a lot of people b***h about Hyrule Field being empty. People never praised Ocarina for how much 'content' it had, only for transcribing Zelda in a 3D plain. All the talk about how much content Ocarina has is a recent occurrence, only because the homosexuals infesting this hobby today wasn't expecting an old game to be engaging and give you your money's worth, especially a game you can download for free.

                >Who's saying it's "groundbreaking"?
Anon, you can't even make a critique about BotW without fanboys crying about how so and so is more complex than anything else before it and spamming journalist headlines praising the game.

And you're pretending that a large chunk of the praise for BotW isn't for it's "presentation and playability", just like OoT was praised for. You're a bad faith contrarian.

You can not like a piece of content, that doesn't mean it's not content. Other people do like it. It's not your place to decide what is and isn't meaningful video game content. Btw did you also think collecting 100 gold skulltulas in OoT was boring? Cuz many people would disagree with you on that too.

                >Btw did you also think collecting 100 gold skulltulas in OoT was boring?
No, because there was only 100 of them and you got a tangible reward for it, vs. 900 Korok seeds, 400 of which you only need and the final reward being literal shit. I also had the pleasure of being told that I wasn't supposed to collect all of them and doing so is a waste of time.

But wait - isn't that the 'content' you homosexuals praise BotW for? 900 Korok seeds, whoa that's a ton of content...but you're not supposed to collect them all. I was actively told that I'm supposed to avoid over half of the seeds in the game even though that's the content you're praising the game for. Doesn't that come off as flawed to you? To have the fans tell you not to collect something and even the devs themselves doing so in a subtle manner?

You can also just collect 100 koroks in BotW. How is that any different? You can even look up the numbers of koroks in each region and just do them piecemeal, as if each region is another OoT with 100 gold skulltulas in it.

You can either hate both or like both. It doesn't make ANY sense at all to like the gold skulltula hunt in OoT and not like the Korok hunt in BotW. BTW rupee/wallet upgrade that you have nothing to buy with is not "a tangible reward".

I need Korok Seeds to upgrade my inventory space. There are also 900 of them vs. say 100 Skulltulas in a considerably smaller world that has to make every area/space count.
                >rupee/wallet upgrade that you have nothing to buy with is not "a tangible reward".
Oooh, another concession. Rupees are needed to buy things, you can't ignore that. Being able to upgrade your wallet is a tangible reward. I love how you change the rules when it's not BotW. No sir, you exposed yourself with that one.

There are also 100 koroks in a comparably small chunk of BotW's world. If BotW were modded to include a per-region korok counter, and you were to just play one region of BotW's world until you found all the koroks in it, that would be comparable to the korok hunt in OoT.

                >Rupees are needed to buy things
except there is nothing to buy in OoT. name one thing in that game that you need rupees for. Maybe if you just suck at the minigames so you need 2000 rupees to keep trying until you win them.

I don't understand your philosophy of what "content" is at all then. What you described absolutely counts as content just as much as anything that you do in a dungeon. What is the difference?

Most of what you would do in a standard Zelda dungeon would be considered "just exploration" by your definition. You just have a fundamentally flawed understanding of what video game design is about.

Unironically it is. It immediately stands out and compels you to investigate these aberrant locations. Especially since it's only three of them, with unique paths in all of them that can't be skipped by just walking above them.
The issue is it leads to a completely normal shrine, no attempt at actually integrating the shrine with the labyrinth, for an armor set that is incredibly mediocre and a Spirit Orb you more than definitely already got enough of due to the food system being so broken you don't really need to boost your hearts past 13 or your stamina at all.

Good. I'm glad. The BOTW fandom ill needs idiots like you amongst our ranks. BOTW is a game for very specific people, which seem to be in short supply these days. I dub this group of people "The Last Bastion of Good Taste". Clearly you are not one of these people, you never were and could never hope to be. Your tiny mind cannot comprehend any aspect of the game, let alone engage with it and enjoy it. It's not entirely your fault, you have to be born intelligent to be intelligent. But effort goes a long way, and the effort you put forth is equivalent to a letting loose a fart that's halfway out already. Your anger and frustration is by your own doing, the game has absolutely no blame and has no fault. If you had any shred of intelligence within that acorn head of yours, you'd have realized it's about the discovery and then the journey. The shrine at the end is a bonus, one they really didn't even have to place there at all. But it's for mongrels such as yourself who don't understand the intricacies and beauty of just getting there in the first place. I highly suggest games like The Last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn, Life is Strange, Gone Home, and other such similar titles that will play the game for you and allow you to sit there drooling as you consider your time well spent.

Cut shrines/divine beasts and replace with dungeons/mini-dungeons that blend into the world more naturally like BotW Hyrule's castle. Give them actual unique visuals, music, and enemies so it's not all the samey shit for the umpteenth time.

Have more unique equipment/powers you get as rewards instead of so many spirit orbs. Designing the whole game around the idea that everything should be totally accessible from the start and giving you every item power in the prologue was a bad idea, if they absolutely insist on having the game be beatable right away there should at the very least be more side content that can't be reached until you get a specific item to give the game better progression.

                Not him but here goes.
Ubisoft towers you climb them and they drop all the icons and areas you can find stuff on the map, so you’re looking at the map rather than the world. BOTW just gives you the map, and you’re supposed to look out off the tower and discover things for yourself.

You can't just dump the player into a vast overworld where they can go absolutely anywhere they want without restriction and hope they'll have a good time. There needs to some sliver of focus offered to the player, some hint so they understand what's expected of them. There's a reason that the towers are large looming bright fricking orange objects. It gives the player something to focus on and an objective to head for - even if it's only on a subconscious level. Nintendo knows fine well that the player's attention will be pulled in different directions along the way.

So the towers sit as a bright orange beacon, gently enticing the player to gravitate towards them. Completing one will provide the map of the area and a quick warp point. This all aids the core gameplay of exploration.

The towers essentially exist as non-linear goals for the player to always have an objective rather than feeling lost. Even if the awareness of this is only on a subconscious level - they will feel intrinsically motivated to investigate and overcome.

Its solid game design and over the heads of silly kiddies like you who don't understand video games. Trying to pretend their function is anything like Ubisoft towers is a laughable superficial comparison. You might as well compare Mario Kart to Gran Turismo because they both have cars. Absolute muppet.

      >why don't you like shrines again?

Bingo. I don't even consider it a Zelda game seeing as it feels nothing like Zelda and has none of Zelda's draws. I can't believe people actually consider it one of the best games of all time. It is, without humor or exaggeration, the worst Zelda game, even counting those moronic DS games that nobody played cause they sucked.
