its ok anon you could always try that wonderful thing called modding!
      there are two cool options
      >sekiro resurrection
Its the only overhaul mod that isnt straight up autistic. Fights still look somewhat belieavable, enemies wont just go vergil mode. It doesnt overtune the ever living frick of your moveset, but you still get new cool moves. Also all boss changes and new bossfights are lore-friendly
      >sekiro randomizer
its fun, you can randomize the locations of nearly every item drop, forcing you to search a lot, be surprised, and get some really stupid enemy and boss/miniboss placements. I do not recommend using the option to scale mid-lategame bosses to have stats match the early gmae, because that shits boring

Yeah that one can be fun. Used it 3 times thus far.
That it gives you some rough guidelines where important items can be found without spoilers is nice as is the fact that you can start without grappling hook.
Although I personally always check the files to make sure only boring bosses replace the tutorial and monkey ones.

just picked this game up... is there a downside to just mashing l1 in every fight? seems kind of broken

yeah you're gonna miss the deflect window half the time and you're not gonna have fun playing the game

      Anonymous

L1 spam is mostly just a Ganker meme. It'll work sometimes but often you just miss the window. Eventually your posture builds and your stance breaks and you get fricked

      Anonymous

The only thing it's actually good for is when two or more enemies are swinging at you similtaneously and you can't get away. Otherwise you'll just eventually get stance broken or miss a perilous sweep you have to jump anyway

      Anonymous

Rapidly pressing L1 lowers the deflect frames on each one. You might get lucky and deflect some attacks but you'll end up blocking a lot more and thus get posture broken. Once you beat the game, you'll unlock the true difficulty that takes the training wheels off and cause you to take chip damage for each block. "Mashing" L1 is just a dumb thing shitposters try and say but no, it really doesn't work against anything that's actually threatening. Maybe against your basic Ashina mook it'll work but that's not saying much. Also, Sekiro is designed around back and forth sword clashing. Even with perfect deflect timing, your posture is always going up. This means as you continue to deflect large attack chains, the risk goes up substantially because one slight frick-up and you'll get posture broken. Blindly mash and you'll likely frick up.

      Anonymous

      >is there a downside to just mashing l1 in every fight?
The parry window gets shorter if you spam it. Also your posture gets punished harder for it. You can spam it two or three times and get away with it, but more won't work with the bosses.

My favorite thing to deflect in the game has gotta be Isshin's shockwave slashes

              Anonymous

Mine is Inner Isshin's new conbo where he does a sweep, uppercuts you while you're still in the air and then does either a thrust or charged slash. I feel like the game should have explored mid-air deflects more because they're so satisfying.

      Anonymous

Unless you're against a boss or enemy where being on the defensive is a must, just playing too defensive will make encounters way longer then they should be, despite deflections eating into enemy posture. It gets you through the game, but it will absolutely eat you alive on NG due to chip damage eating through block or bad deflection timing.

During the night time invasion of Ashina Castle, if you head back to the idol at the watch tower close to the steps where you fought Chained Ogre, you can backstab around 4 soldiers easily then go back to the idol in about 30 seconds.

      Anonymous

Sekiro isnt very farming-friendly I think. I liked to farm the purple Okami spear warrior near the Feeding Grounds idol in Fountainhead Palace. She's on the broken bridge only about 10 feet away and gives a little over 1000xp a pop

15 levels is still gonna take you at least a couple hours though, I decided to wait till NG+ when everything is worth more

I finished my first playthrough this last Sunday night. Taking a little break to play battletech and 40k stuff instead. Should I do NG+ when I come back or try for the gauntlets first? Does gauntlet difficulty scale with your NG cycle?

      Anonymous

I did the gauntlets last week and started my NG+ this week and when I went back to fight bosses from the gauntlet they were harder but probably because I'm doing a charmless demon bell run which is worth doing if youre not bad at the game

      Anonymous

To my knowledge, the gauntlet difficulty scale is set regardless of what your in-game character stats are. To unlock the other two gauntlets, you'll need to get the Shura ending to fight Emma and Old Isshin, then the Purification ending to fight Owl at the Hirata Estate.
Gauntlets are fun since you get harder versions of Genichiro, Owl, and Isshin.

    Posting the new mandatory pasta...ahem...

    >the parry system makes the game unnecessarily difficult upon first discovering / encountering enemies and the first playthrough. Once enemy move patterns are learned the game becomes piss easy and monotonous.

    >The parry system is overly praised, especially on Ganker, because it takes normies 5ish hours to become competent at, even though DMC's royal guard and ninja gaiden's parry/dodge/counter are both harder and more rewarding to master.

    >Furthermore, you'd arguably have more actual difficulty beating all bosses with a vanilla uchigatana in DS3 or elden ring

    >limiting ninja arts to only 1 equitable at a time, limiting sub weapon use behind spirit emblem consumption, and a single primary weapon makes gameplay repetitive and unnecessarily restrictive.

    >humanoid bosses are legitimately great, but again can be mastered / exploited pretty easily with minimal practice, and all can be outright cheesed. Also, Demon of Hatred, Divine Dragon, and Monkeys are obnoxious to fight, due to their mechanics being so out of place within the game.

    >2/3rds of the sub-bosses are re-skins which is ironic considering people shit talk elden ring for it, but don't bring it up for sekiro.

    >the world is by far the most dull of any souls game. Fountainhead palace is stunning however, it's a shame it's capped off with the worst boss in the game. Verticality was also a welcome change of pace.

      >it feels like a slap in the face after your first playthrough when you tried to explore every nook and cranny, only to realize there was nothing of value to find besides worthless consumables

      >stealth was horribly implemented for a game where you play as a ninja...group enemy placement leads to the most efficient gameplay loop being jumping a single regular enemy, running away, resetting the AI, and repeating, as well as cheesing sub-bosses.

      >dragonrot is the dumbbest death penalty mechanic in any souls game, especially when considering that the overwhelming majority of deaths will be front loaded at the beginning of the game, making some of the most esoteric NPC questlines in any souls game even MORE missable.

      >Once you get all 4 endings and all bosses are experienced there's zero replayability. You're legitimately better off playing ninja gaiden.

Overall still 7/10, and for reference...

What? He's not that hard. Took me like 3 hours. DoH took me like 3 too. I'm not a great player by any means but the game is beatable. At the beginning of the game even the common enemies were killing me, but just by playing you get better.

Exactly. I'd still put Genichiro as the boss that I had the hardest time with, but that was also where the game's mechanics eventually clicked for me and the rest of the bosses led to refining deflection timing. Genichiro's just also a fricking S-tier boss fight.

            Anonymous

If I were to rank the bosses objectively, Genishiro would be probably third, but in context he's perhaps my favorite boss ever. Going from barely beating the first phase, to barely beating the second, to get fricked by the third, only to get so good that you beat him with one life and without taking almost any damage was the most satisfying experience I've had with a boss in any game.

              Anonymous

I forgot to mention that after beating Genishiro I felt like I could beat absolutely anything, so by the time I made it to the end, it didn't matter that Ishin beat me the first time in 20 seconds, because I knew I was going to beat him eventually. Such a great game.

If it doesn't work for you that's understandable but it works for me. Unironically I've lost motivation since now I have to wipe my ass but this bit caught my eye:
