Setting is an abandoned mmo world. In the absence of players The mob monsters have evolved into sophisticated societies and have taken over and colonized the planet. You are an intelligent Kobold (or goblin gotta be something small) thats is going out on a coming of age quest. Hijinks inssue and other mob party members are gathered.
Big bad is a Dragon queen trying to bring back the "players" (aka humanity) because she fell in love with one of them.
This is a problem because in the old days where players still played the game, humans are immortal and nearly always malevolent to monsters. Another issue is monsters have a mental tick or game programming in their heads that whenever they see a human player they become feral and attack. reverting them to what they once were when (Even the nicest fairy will suffer from this). So the game is basically the mobs trying to stop the dragon queen from starting an apocalypse.
