This all sounds like a problem with Bethesda's game engine. Why don't they do the smart thing and get rid of it, get another engine, then hire people(or train the existing people) who know that engine well(my guess would be Unreal Engine 5)? Bethesda has basically unlimited money and time, so why aren't they making smart decisions?

unreal is not some cheat code
you get incompetent devs on it and it will shit out some unoptimized jank on the same level of gamebryo but with higher graphic fidelity, which isn't the point of upgrading an engine

the "upgrade your engine bethesda" comes from the fact that they can't make a golf kart in their shitty games

But Bethesda games have always been unoptimized jank. I'm starting to think that it's not just incompetent developers.

If they switch engines they'll have to remove the level of interactivity with clutter and the way the engine tracks items with physics in real time.
Then again, bethesda has a knack for cutting off game mechanics instead of refining them or designing the world with said mechanics in mind

            >they'll have to remove the level of interactivity with clutter and the way the engine tracks items with physics in real time
So? If that's the only tradeoff for getting rid of that shit engine, then that's an amazing deal.

I don't think physics were ever a large part of bethesda games, I can't remember a single puzzle or dungeon that required you to move or throw items into holes or a matching game

What does that have to do with anything?
Creation engine literally uses havok engine for physics, there's nothing special about it. Why is everyone on this board so fucking dumb? Holy shit.

bethesda should switch engines because they aren't making entire use of it after all these years, no point keeping that relic

          >I'm starting to think that it's not just incompetent developers.
It's not just incompetence but lack of fucks & arguably that more than anything else, now that that they’re like ubisoft where they have shit farmed out to third parties there's now added incompetence. It's not like they try to be ambitious & fail, their games are designed from the ground up to be shallow trash made as quickly as possible. It works for them, their games sell & they don't care about anything else.

good, companies dont deserve to survive just off brand appeal
elder scrolls 6 is their last chance for anyone to take them seriously as an rpg company
even cyberpunks sorry excuse for a launch had made a recovery and they might be the ones to take bethesdas place

The new blood not knowing how the Gamebryo/Creation engine works would be a fucking miracle, Bethesda moving onto another engine after using the same engine since it released in 1997 would be a short-term mar against modding ease and a long-term boon for FUCKING MODERNIZING

Interesting analogy. More like, they released yet another rock album but this one incorporates some synths. And it sounds exactly like their last 5, except worse somehow.

The fact zoomers are all tech illiterate doesn't help.
During college I learned C#, C and C++ and went on to learn several different frameworks while doing internship, all by myself, no one spoon fed me anything.
I've made mods for New Vegas and Skyrim and it took me a couple of hours to get a grasp of that garbage engine. Kids these days are just retarded.

If you know how to program at that skill level you won't settle for gamedev pay and hours.

I wonder how many bad AAA's can be blamed on issues retaining talent. Someone who could manage a project like Starfield is overqualified for what Bethesda pays.
