XY is where it lost its soul. Soulless animations, lost all edge, and the big focus on rehashing gen 1 began right there. BW had tons of post game, the right balance of animation but still in the 2d realm like an old rpg a more mature story and characters reflected in the characters being older as well. It was the send off to the original fans had some pkmn inspired by the same ecological niches that inspired the original 151 but not every one was an exact replica. There's many reasons why that generation was the last phenomenal one. Same gen that also saw HGSS which is one of the best games hands down.

XY protagonists are the oldest in the franchise since you should be at least older than the 16 year old girl in the Looker postgame quest. I agree about the story though.

There's some creative ones like Funguss vs Voltorb and Trubbish vs Grimer/Muk but you also have Timburr vs Machop that are pratically the same with even the same evolution method. Sawk and the red dude are also ones that try to replicate Gen 1 but lack too much charisma to do it.

Except that Machop line was frequently promoted in the games as workers too. You have Machoke moving stuff in Gen 2 Department Store, then you have it again at start of Gen 3 games. I'm pretty anime also showed Machop line as workers multiple times.

I understand and agree with /vp/ opinions on this game, but it was a GOOD experience, everything was beautiful, maybe it was hard to make a team but I was never a guy that would use more than 4 pokemons per game, the evil team was underwhelming, sure. But megas were peak, the art was great, I haven't seen a more pretty or meaningful league, I have played it at an adult age so it's no nostalgia for me I assure. I couldn't feel this way with BW.

If something bothered me a lot from Gen 6 to Gen 7 transition was that you can't sit anymore on chair in Gen 7. I honestly thing grid-style movement works better than analog movement or at least Gamefreak was able to use it more.

I didn't buy Swish and played Gaia instead, it was an experience much more faithful to what Pokemon is about.
I don't give a shit about SV aside from the new pokemon, moves etc. which i will be enjoying on Showdown and fanmade games. Eventually there will be some romhacks including pokemon up to gen 9 and that will be when i will be having adventures with gen 9 pokemon.
