I was just thinking I was getting sick of the Uchigatana and it was time to rock a new weapon. I don't have the DLC yet, I'm waiting till I beat Mohg or it goes on sale. Any suggestions?

      Anonymous

Lots of good dex weapons but what exactly do you like about the uchigatana? Backhand blades scale well with dex and have good mobility with its AoW giving generous i-frames, Great katanas have innate bleed and fit the aesthetic plus have their own unique stance AoW but lean more towards a quality build, and then you have something like the light greatsword milady which swings pretty fast, scales great with dex(both in keen and the status effect infusions) and also has a unique AoW stance

        >what exactly do you like about the uchigatana
        It's range

          Anonymous

And now I'm confused. I thought the uchigatana was on the lower end of range for katanas. The only one that I suggested that doesn't outrange it is the backhand blades and even then it(and the milady) can extend their range with their AoW.

what are my int options in the dlc? kind of tired of moonlight

Its mostly hybrid stuff in the DLC. There are some INT weapons like a katana that lets you go full anime swordsman for its AoW but I don't think there's anything thats purely/primarily INT scaling. Could still convert some weapons into cold/magic but otherwise yeah nothing purposely int built

                [...]
It was 150 a year before the dlc was announced. The 125 crew lost HARD on the pvp wars.

What happened is reddit decided it was 125, for no reason other than reddit meme homosexualry.
People learned the game had a higher stat ceiling and moved it to 150.
But Elden Ring PVP is espescially obnoxious, so many sweat accumulated at 150 that some people decided to go to 90 and some people decided between 200 and 250. Some people say 167 is ideal.

166 seems to have a very 'ideal' and comfortable stat distribution, I don't PvP, but it lets you have 60 VIG, END, and two 40 stats with 20 mind.

Mostly hybrid stuff, but Rellana's twinblades are really fun to use and very strong. I've heard the carian sovereignty ash of war is overpowered as shit but haven't used it yet, but it's good for INT builds.

        Anonymous

        >Relanna's Twinblades
They're really not very int. They do terrible damage if you're just focusing Int, and even Int/Faith has poor results. They really benefited from quality scaling first and foremost, due to it being physical and how the split damage works. Magic Milady works very well though, or Cold if you've got high Dex and Int (105 Frostbite build up is insane on such a fast hitting weapon).
And yes, Carian Sovereignty is busted if you can land it. Full combo is 90+ stance damage and will put out an easy 8K+ damage with just Alexander's and Godfrey's. You even get hyper armor (and a lot of it too IF you are using it on a greatsword or great katana). It's strong if you just use it as an execute button on stance broken enemies, but if you learn to time it on bosses (easy enough even on the likes of Messmer or Midra) it's becomes insane due to the stance breaking power.

          Anonymous

Carian sovereignty is probably bugged. You only get hyper armor on it with one weapon type. Given how little shit has hyperarmor in the DLC chances are it wasn't supposed to have any.

            Anonymous

It has hyper armor on all weapons, just not as much. With 51 poise you'll start tanking attacks, even ones that will stagger you normally with said poise, so there's clearly some form of hyper armor going on. You're right about the difference probably being a bug. I suspect that it more hyper armor in an early build, and they forgot to reduce it for some weapon classes.

btw the throwing axe is bugged. Put a holy infusement on it. Seems like the physical damage is bugging out and also scaling off of Faith. Gets like 800-900 damage off an entirely faith build. Puts out more damage than most other weapons on decent builds with 0 effort.

Strength or Dex with minimum requirements for Faith? Sure, they're feasting. Faith with minimum requirements for Strength/Dex? Nah. Most of the weapons with faith requirements are "faith" weapons, not actually faith weapons. Of the non-infusable ones there's like 3 or 4 that get B scaling at max upgrade and one of them is a flail. A few get C and the rest get D and many of them don't make sense. For frick's sake, there's even a straight sword with 14STR/11DEX/24FTH requirements and it gets C/D/D scaling at max upgrade. I don't think I've seen a single A scaling in Faith in the DLC, even with infusions.

        Anonymous

Really? Nothing higher than that? Reminds me of those alabaster/onyx lord weapons with shit int scaling too. To be honest, having 3 different scaling stat means you can get decent damage if you slightly invest in most of them. But i mean, Faith in general is busted in ER. You have holy and lightning, but also most of the good fire stuff is Faith, the Faith buff are insane etc.. it's nice that it is better better than Dark Souls but the shit Int users got are pretty lame in this game beside the gravity and night moves and we have one element type and frost for us, that's it. When Faithgays encounter a holy boss, they can straight up switch to its weakness that scale with the same stat. When we encounter a magic boss we are cooked.

My first playthrough years ago was str/int. Went str/fth because incantations are cooler and turned out dexgays got the special treatment since they get everything.

Casting almost with your barehand instead of a a big staff is definitely cooler in most cases. Dexgays always get away with shit without downside so i am not surprised. Like, did we need a second int katana?

Backhand blades (the swords), claws of night, and meteoric ore blade are my favorites of the dlc. I also like the smithscript daggers even though they're not that good, they're still fun as a weapon for exploring. I've been wanting a good set of claws since the base game and claws of night are sick. They're like the crow quills from 3 where the claw is just daggers held in between the fingers and giving throwing moves to claws helps the weapon class immensely. Now I can use claws without the range issue and scattershot is amazing. It can wreck crowds and build bleed nicely, it's essentially a shotgun.

If the weapon art on this thing was just a tiny bit faster it might have been my weaponfu as well but as it is it's too slow to punish bosses most of the time.
I feel like Unsheathe ruined me. I never used it in the past because I felt it was too strong but I did a fresh playthrough with it for the DLC and doesn't matter what weapon I use I always think to myself it would be more fun to use Unsheathe.
I guess if I had to pick a favourite weapon from the DLC then it would be the standard Great Katana with Overhead Stance. Not as good as Unsheathe but pretty fun to use.
Rellana's swords are very fun to use in the overworld but I always end up switching off them in bosses.

Yeah, but the quest is in Leyndell. I just don't particularly like the quests, the break the flow of the game by having you constantly teleport all over the map. Not to mention that the final quest is the in Moutaintops, which is post-Morgott, despite the fact that Rykard is clearly scaled to be pre-Leyndell. Weird shit.
It's even worse for the Ronin set, which requires you to either just whack an NPC early, or otherwise wait until end game.

Bloodfiend Arm with Bleed is probably the best bleed weapon to come out of the DLC, it’ll pretty much bleed anything in 1-2 R2s. The fork (spear) and great spear are just okay, IMO inferior to occult Naginata’s and Mohg’s great spear. There’s one new blood incantation and a somber dex/arcane scythe which is neat but I think the regular occult scythe is still better for arcane builds.

Ansbach's scythe's is better than the standard scythes purely because Dynastic Sickleplay is Dynast Finesse for scythes.
Sure, a standard +25 scythe/grave scythe will have better AR and Bleed on Occult infusions, but Dynastic Sickleplay is just that good, it's hard to say no to a better, unnerfed bloodhound step with a followup that does that much damage and posture damage, especially for DLC bosses where you want to be as mobile as possible.

      >You have holy and lightning
Holy? Yes, but most of the damage outside of casting is ass due to the scaling. Lightning? Outside of incants and a few AoW, not really. Lightening does much better on DEX, especially that one AoW that also gives the weapon a lightning buff + innate scaling lightning damage from the infusion. Fire you can get in heaps, but most everyone in PvP levels vigor so their base absorption is pretty good. That said if you do double giant's seal, the fire giant incantations become apocalyptic.
      >we have one element type and frost for us
Frost is nutty though, but for some God-forsaken reason it does arguably just as well on STR or DEX. For magic bosses, I got good results with rock-based sorceries because their phys damage is still pretty damn high and likely to stagger but I haven't tried it on the coked-out DLC bosses yet. All in all, the dev team was drunk when figuring out scaling & balance in this fricking game.

        meant for

        [...]
Casting almost with your barehand instead of a a big staff is definitely cooler in most cases. Dexgays always get away with shit without downside so i am not surprised. Like, did we need a second int katana?

        Anonymous

Fair enough. I honestly haven't touch the Lightning with Dex much so i don't really know how it differ from Faith. I found Holy very strong against the right enemies though. The damage it does against undead like death bird and whatnot is very high, especially when you do the good old Blunt+Holy combo. I can't really speak for it in PVP as i stopped that shit long ago but i am sure you are right since all i used to see there was fire infusion and ashes of war.

FromSoft is absolutely terrified of making the player too strong, which makes it all the more hilarious when the various exploits get leaked through without proper testing. They fricking suck at balancing though; many spells simply aren't worth it, because there's always something less flashy but more efficient. Take Miquella's Light, for instance: that thing should destroy everything. It should be a fun toy. As it is, it barely does more damage than a few Lightning Spears. It does WAY less than a Carian Sovereignty (can't wait for that to be nerfed).
They're so hyper-fixated on being "hard" and "challenging", they they actively take away from players as much as they give. Their game design suffers from an extremely contradictory process, it seems.

My weaponfu is still Ancient Dragon's Lightning Strike. Scadu lvl6 lol

See, like why is this allowed when shit like Miquella's Light or the rot spell or Rain of Fire do frickall. Who is in charge of testing this shit?

protip - anyone posting a webm is making their entire build a 1 hit killer with talismans and buffs for a 2 second video then never mentioning it.
Always look at their buff icons when you start up a webm. If there are more than 2 they are making a 1 hit build to "show off." He might be scadu6 but he is also like level 200 based on the sizes of his hp/fp/stamina.

On the contrary, this game is more about achieving a power fantasy under the guise of difficulty. The scadutree fragment system is in place because they made players too powerful, because they didn’t impose enough restrictions (ie a level cap, for example).

It's frustrating because it's clearly part of their Prepare to Die ebin difficulty mindset. They nerfed the shit out of Comet Azur builds because of it, including change how boss design works, without really thinking of the ramification. Except they are horrible, terrible at balancing so you still see shit like people stack a billion buffs and one shot bosses, or the guy who did an all hit run on Radahn. Poise fricking died for this shit and yet From don't even balance their game properly. It'd be one thing if they were consistently keeping things nerfed (Sekiro almost achieved this, almost), but the inconsistency leaves me mad.

I love the blink but trying to do the overhead slam on a boss was usually suicide.

                For educational purposes.

Not a weapon but an Ash. This thing was so fun, and hits so hard (shame it will get nerfed). Mercing Leda, Hornset and Moore at the same time with the roundhouse was kino.
Mostly used it on Milady and a Flamberge. Other weapons I used were Relanna's, Star Lined Blade (wish the scaling was better, but it's Mohged so hard by Moonveil) and the Smithscript Axe and Spear (too OP, stopped using them).

I know everyone accepted this already but I am still mad at this. The bonus should only apply when also casting with the seal and then also be high enough to surpass the generic scaling so that you're actually incentivised to use it.

        Anonymous

yeah just not allowing stacking and making the boost worthwhile would actually incentivize specializing in specific schools of magic. all facets of the game would be more fun and interestingg. they dropped the ball there. and still no knockback talisman. my playstyle of yeeting homies off cliffs will never be rewarded

        Anonymous

2 gravel stone seals is still better one and a better scaling seal because the buffs stack, you just only get 1 per NG cycle unless you cheat or trade
the whole thing is still terribly implemented though, basically everything about casting is jank and terribly programmed or designed. Buffs and heals only scale from the faith component on split scaling seals/staves, which is presumably a glitch they just haven't bothered to fix, which also means Electrify Weapon doesn't benefit from the Dragon Cult bonus on the seal, dex improves cast speed but only for certain parts of animations so spells benefit in wildly varying amounts, some literally not at all, they just added a weapon catalyst but somehow forgot to give it a spellpower modifier, the entire system is barely functional at best and they have no idea what they're doing

            Anonymous

that's the thing though, magic is still broken if you use the good shit
stacking buffs still makes Night Comet do as much damage as a fully charged colossal R2 from range with half the animation length, Comet Azure cheese still deletes any boss that doesn't avoid it,

My weaponfu is still Ancient Dragon's Lightning Strike. Scadu lvl6 lol

ADLS still almost 1shots large bosses it can hit multiple times, optimized Catch Flame spam has higher DPS than any melee attack in the game etc
And then they just make garbage like Founding Rain of Stars or the new Rain of Fire that has literally no use case, and the vast majority of other spells that take too long and cost too much to ever really be worth using. They just don't know what they're doing, don't playtest anything and the entire system is held together by prayers and a dozen layers spaghetti code trying to fix scaling bugs and spell swap bugs and chain cast bugs and shit so they probably don't know how to fix half of this shit even if they wanted to.

It's okay. Moonveil is better. The Ash of War is either amazing (stun locks Fire Knights) or mediocre (you get to hits off and then decked). It's mostly a dex weapon with an int tax, rather than a true Int/Dex weapon, but the dex scaling is good enough. It's physical focused rather than magic like Moonveil, and so there's less ways to jack it's damage up. Looks cool though.

            Star line sword

            https://eldenring.tclark.io/
Fricking around with the calculator a bit more shows that it actually does perform quite well among katanas, straight swords, light greatswords and thrusting swords which are similar enough categories. Moonveil will out perform it at minimum requirements to use both (12 str, 23 dex/int), and will continue to do so in both int focused and balanced builds, but not by much. Also better bleed, although Star Lined's ash of war is better for procing bleed if you're in melee (although a magic uchi with double slash or the like will be better still). If you want to focus dex first (dunno why you would, but whatever) it wins out and even has a higher AR than the Sword of Night, although SoN will be better due to being even more physical focused. Despite better Str scaling, Moonveil continues to win out even at something crazy like 60/60/80.

But again, it's top of the line as far as these 4 categories of weapons go, so it's not a bad weapon to use if you like it.

in pvp and on enemies that don't fully fall asleep it's identical to normal sleep, on enemies that can actually fall asleep it's like sleep but they don't wake up if you hit them unless you do the sleep critical

Playing through the DLC, I got barely any random Hunter summons from 125-150, but now that I'm over 160 I get pulled into summons kind of often and it seems to be happening with more frequency so Imagine it's sitting around 180-200.

      always 150 for PVP
anything past that and there's no more builds, just kitchen sinks
Even 150 is too much honestly. The meta was set at 120 for multiple games for good reason, it limits you and forces you to specialize instead of generalize.

        >Even 150 is too much honestly

You have no fricking clue unless you try them.
They do insane poise damage compared to the fists. Different moveset though so use both in each hand to get a full (plus tip) moveset.
        [...]
It was 150 a year before the dlc was announced. The 125 crew lost HARD on the pvp wars.

        [...]

        >The 125 crew lost HARD on the pvp wars
        oof

Most normies are gonna be at least 200 now. The endgame shits runes at you so you basically have to stop leveling after you get to the Mountaintops.

If you want a "meta", it's gonna be 150 and 125 for the discordsissy "duelists".

        Anonymous

200 is probably where it will settle for convenience. I'm a big co-op guy and always do 150 and co-op in the dlc zones is pure suffering at 150. Its 1 shot city up in there.
That will take a month or two though. As is, coop is just a waste of time in the dlc, I'm back to hand putting my signs down in front of Radagon or Malenia because the dlc zone is just loading screens and connection errors as hosts die immediately at the 150 range with co-op stat buffs on baddies.

      Anonymous

      depends what you're looking for
125 is for "meta pvp" where people that are specifically into the pvp and care about things like builds having tradeoffs stop, plenty of duels and tryhards but it's also a good level for invading endgame areas and people doing taunters tongue runs. Tends to offset the absurd damage characters can deal a little bit since most people will prioritize survivability for pvp so 1shots/1 rollcatch kills are a bit less common when everyone has 60vig and a few less damage stats, but it does make hybrid builds notably worse than more efficient ones, and you invade people in tiny hallways before boss fogs a lot which kinda sucks.
138 is the highest you can go and still invade 125 so lots of tryhards are specifically at that level to get an advantage against the other meta level players and ganks
150 is a common "finished character" level. You can mostly maximize two stats with few tradeoffs at this level so characters are very strong, casters are nuts at this level since they can pay the mind tax and afford vig and good armor while still dealing 45% of your health with Night Comet but it's also easier to spare a little Faith for Barrier of Gold or something to deal with them. 150 can invade down to 138 but most 138 players will be invading rather than hosting so you tend to see a fewer meta players, but you do see a ton of semi-casual co-op ganks that just spam a shitload of AoEs everywhere and it's hard for a bad build to keep up numerically.
200 is full casual pve co-op enjoyers mostly. Fun but not super active in the base game, very few meta tryhards. Might become more popular now that the DLC is out and casuals level up more.
Best regular invasion ranges are either sub 20/+3 weapons for very early zones or 70-90 with +17 or better for later areas. Downscaling actually works at very low levels but mid levels are awful and phantoms take no damage and deal tons until you can start catching up with 40 vig and a decent weapon.

          Anonymous

125 probably since you can invade 150 players
if you care about literally nothing but activity maybe exactly 119 to still barely invade up to 150 and down as far as possible to catch people just playing through the game, but if you're invading a lot of people at exactly 150 you'll feel the difference in level at 119, especially if they have a couple higher level but not downscaled phantoms

            Anonymous

just found this. my Lower-Level Limit at 119 is 108 to 150 while 125 is 113 to 150

unironicly 119 may be the best because it still opens the possibility to get people in the 108 range

Some notes. DK gives about the same amount of boost as flock canvas talisman. Dragon priest's animation for buffing is fast enough to find chances to re-buff even accounting for how fast the DLC bosses are. Dragon priest gives some extra protections but is really more of a consolation. Barely worse (~5%) physical resists but noticeably worse elemental protection(~12-15%) even if you're looking at light roll sets.

I have to honor the Great Katana as this thing is probably what I killed most bosses with.

2nd place goes to the Throwing Daggers. 80 Dex on keen with the multihit talisman and smithing talisman was huge. These things completely invalidate some bosses and enemies.

Now on my 2nd playthrough with an ARC focused Char I picked up OP's weapon right away before doing anything else (Go southeast infront of Castle Ensis, unlock the spirit spring to get to that "secret" part of the fort with the omen killers and then break out the front to grab the UGS).

And man that thing slaps, currently at 55 STR and 40 ARC (still growing) and it's very fun to use the AoW. Together with deflect tear I killed Rellanna and the Lion an that was fun.

you can literally get into mogh's area really fast before you can kill any boss in the actual game if you do the white guy quest.

Yeah that might have been an argument until they patched the Mohg glitch that allowed you to kill him outside his boss room.

I got a new character up there at RL50, progression was entering the leyendal so beat both renalla and radahn. Afterwards with a +10 BHF and mohg's shackle I was able to beat mohg. I don't even consider myself remotely skilled so its plausible for people to do it and still have a solid half of the game to clear.

        >The most moronic thing about this dlc is that you can't get the new weapons on a new character until the endgame unless you use cheats.
Well, it's like Bloodborne? Try to get past Ludwig on a low BL character.

No need for that, there has been a sekiro parry mod out for a while now.

I really like Milady. A weapon like that should have been there since early base game. I'm so tired of gay powerstancing, especially with greatswords. It's good to have a long swords you are supposed to use with two hands for once

Can anyone debate this? I loved finding the perfect hole or pillar to spam the blood boon art, and or finding the biggest boss opening. It's almost as good of a feeling as finding a sick item.

It used to be my brother's weaponfu because it was disgusting in PvP and against some strong enemies. He would just stand there and melt their healthbars. He had the stats.
But because it's a one-trick pony he had to adapt to bosses and some other enemies, and depending on the PvP situation he just couldn't spam the skill. So he changes weapons regularly. Also it has been nerfed, since it's not debatable it was a disgustingly powerful weapon.

I have tried so many other weapons but it's just impossible. The scaling is just too good, 500 damage with fast hits, with the double skill attached, it's unbeatable. And the drip is busting for real.

of course at the time everyone saying it was too fast and comparing it to enemies spazzing out in bloodborne
it certainly seems quaint in retrospect, now i look back fondly on pontiff, gundyr, the twins, friede, gael, etc

I can only speak for myself, but I always loved DS3 combat and thought the criticism stemmed mostly from geriatric nostalgia boomers.
Now ER is absolutely guilty of going hard on the crazy anime combos, though the base game kept it at a reasonable degree. Frick SOTE though. That Boss design is just cancer

I was bored out of my mind playing DS3, even ER could stand to have more added to its combat system, the last thing they should do is regress to how DS3 was.

Probably getting hit with heavier attacks. 51 is for basic ass r1 style light attacks and the dlc enemies do more than that.
