Nah, I prefer it when they aren't just there to be yes men and suck your dick. Way more satisfying in that case if you manage to turn them around from hating you.

I roleplay by having him as my not-payed internal

Agreed, but I feel like Starfield lacks major companions that have different opinions than the others, they all seem to feel the same way about things as eachother, asking for money being one thing that they all seem to hate

They don't have to be NICE but they shouldn't be an insufferable cunt either. I could never finish Dragon Age because I hated all my companions, and they all hated me.

No. Johnny Silverhand is an asshole before V proves himself to V. That's an example of a supreme companion.

why would anyone hate the galaxy's best hype man?

He was horribly abused by youtubers in Oblivion. I think it was due to residual hatred of Fargoth.

Companions should be interesting and appealing. That could potentially include being nice, or being mean. The issue is that people confuse cuntiness for being interesting, and confuse niceness for being appealing.

No. Sten, Morrigan, Kreia, and Javik are all beloved companions precisely because they don't worship the ground your character stands on

those games are much more narratively driven, I like Kreia in Kotor 2 but I would not like her in any bethesda open world game where most of my time is spent engaging in the go to quest > kill everything there > loot > return loop

Adoring Fan is the only good character precisely because he’s from Oblivon, their last game that had good characters.

Hell no, in fact. If it fits their character they should be able to outright disobey you. The caviat being that the player can also kill them should they wish too. No one likes a character who can be mean to you and outright work against you without a means to strike back at them.

    No, it's boring

I don't care. Unless they're somehow actively working against me, an asshole companion can be quite fun, just as much as well written friendly one.
The annoying part is when you have party members that you have some control over, and who the game blatantly shows turning traitor, but that you can't do anything about. And I mean PARTY MEMBERS who ACTIVELY BETRAY YOU, not "I saw some random NPC acting evil in a cutscene and there they are in the world so I want to fight them now" or "my party member didn't do exactly what I was hoping so they're evil".

He's such a lazy addition. In Oblivion, he followed you around because you were the Cyrodiil equivalent of a movie star. In Starfield, he meets you after the first mission when you're still a nobody miner.

Your the hero of Vectera. If you listen you can hear SSNN report on it and if you talk to the woman at the news desk she tells you how people love a human interest salt of the earth fights back against pirates story.

This is so dumb, companions are buggy as shit in this game.

Constellation has to be the worst forced faction in any bethesda game. Every one of their members is boring. Even the "mysterious" edgy goth girl has boyscout tier morals and will hate you for doing anything fun.

It's remarkable how bad the companions are in Starfield. Bethesda companions have never been anything to write home about but there would still be a gem here and there like Nick Valentine
