Should devs be allowed to control how/where people can and can't play their games, after they buy them?

kill all twitter posters
>kill all twitter users
ftfy
no
>devs should control where their games exist
lol nope. Once its released it's not "your" game anymore.
though i think the dev should have just kept it on there, your post wins most moronic post of the year
Do you season boots before you start licking them, or do you prefer them raw?
Hold the frick up. If you make something that someone else can seamlessly copy and sell and they do so without your permission, isn't that counterfeiting effectively? The only difference here between a physical bootleg and this is that they have the technological means to disable it remotely.
If full refunds are issued, there shouldn't be a problem.
Full refunds were issued, correct? You wouldn't leave out crucial information would you?
How's that boot taste?
Were full refunds issued moron-kun? Are you having difficulty reading my words?
Did. People. Get. Their. Money. Back. For. Their. Bootleg. Copy. Sold. By. Another. Faceless. Corporate. Entity. Illcitly?
>gobble slurp lick gag
Please take the boot out of your mouth if you're going to have a conversation. Its rude to talk with your mouth full.
I'm going to take that as "I don't know, or I'm brain damaged or both". If I'm tasting the dev's shoe then you're deepthroating a size 16 Nvidia steel toe.
Just pirate the fricking thing if you're so cool. I've heard being subversive is cool among teenagers nowadays, so make sure to tell all your college friends and maybe the upperclassmen will pay attention to you.
>lick slurp gurgle chew
Spit the boot out if you want people to understand what you're saying
Shut. The. Frick. Up. homosexual.
>If you make something that someone else can seamlessly copy and sell and they do so without your permission, isn't that counterfeiting effectively?
That'd be copyright infringement, not counterfeiting. More importantly, what Nvidia is doing isn't either. They aren't selling a copy of the game data to people without permission (that'd be a question of first sale doctrine), they're letting you run a game, which you already legally paid for, on their server and then streaming the audio & video to your local client. Same thing as using Steam Link, except you're using Nvidia's hardware instead of your own.
Most importantly, I'm not just making stuff up here: users hosting and playing back content on another company's server was already decided to not be copyright infringement 15 years ago in Cartoon Network v. CSC Holdings. Nvidia is simply not pushing back because they're trying to play nice and not anger game companies by taking this to court.
>If you make something that someone else can seamlessly copy and sell and they do so without your permission, isn't that counterfeiting effectively?
You just described phone games and gacha.
>tipping a guy for a tweet
do Americans really...?
Twitter opinions are unironically a currency now.
patreons, onlyfans, twitch and other donation platforms needs to be outlawed for the sake of humanity
I was bewildered to what you were talking about and then looked all over the image.
>implying he's not dutch
intellectual property is a spook, so no
but if corporations are going to wield it like a club against individuals then individuals are well within their rights to do it in reverse
Ah, I do love to see hubris.
wording is fricking moronic, but redistribution of games as a service is similar to rentals and the laws on that are well established
Frick no, especially not if you've spent money on it and haven't broken any agreement
Once you have it it's yours, the only thing the devs control is multiplayer/server activity and that's only if the game isn't exclusively single-player
>Should devs be allowed to control how/where people can and can't play their games, after they buy them?
They can already do this on Steam
Did nVidia actually offer the game, or was it just the "renting a remote PC to play the game you already paid for" thing?
Geforce Now allows you to stream games in your steam library
Devs told Nvidia to take their game down because they dont want their games being streamed
Draw your conclusions
Dumbass devs in that case. They don't get a cut from the makers of the hardware parts I used to build this PC, why would someone providing a remote PC service have to do the same?
moronic dev was claiming that he should get a cut lmao
Just extreme israelitery masquerading as pro industry aka all copyright law
why should nvidia get to do whatever the frick they want
Because they didn't keep me waiting 3 years for a shitty story game where everyone looks like a Tumblr OC
If it's something personal with the devs then why didn't you just say that from the start?
>The start
Anon, that was my first post in the thread.
They don't
NVIDIA is just an easy target, since the game had a big title card, description etc.
Functionally what they're doing is no different than if you streamed your desktop and chose what game you wanted to play. A fancy frontend doesnt change that. NVIDIA is providing a service that allows a user to stream what they already own
I believe that when one buys a game, they buy the right to play that game in whatever way they want, no matter what publishers or developers want. Allowing a developers to not let their customers play their games through a streaming service is like allowing developers to not let their customers play their games through certain monitors.
Incorrect. GeForceNOW is basically the Nvidia gamepass, you pay Nvidia a fee of 9.99 or some shit and get to cloud game a list of titles.
You are the incorrect one here. With Geforce Now you pay Nvidia a monthly fee to stream games that you already separately paid for on a storefront like Steam or Epic, it's NOT the same as Gamepass where you get access a whole library of games from different companies by only paying MS once per month.
yeah but from what I got from this thread, they are probably using the "available" games in "their" library to get people to pay them money, which is basically using their name and influence without giving them a cut or asking them first.
In this case, it's a case of distribution so: Absolutely. If the devs of TLD didn't want it on Nvidia's storefront/streaming, they have the right to request it removed.
No, once I purchase a thing it’s mine to do with as I please. The company that makes it shouldn’t care what happens after that, it’s not their business what I do with their product.
this is like the least petty and moronic thing the long dark devs have done so I can't bring myself to give a shit
>call people bootlickers while defending corporations
I don't understand this place.
>its okay to defend developers though, it's not boot licking at all!
>if you oppose thing you support other thing
Go suck more wiener bootlicker.
Talk about an insatiable hunger for boots over here
Yeah, you should stop licking those boots.
Do you have an argument about why the dev is wrong or do you just want to name call, homosexual?
the world would be a better place if you killed yourself
why do you think that Ganker is your personal army?
I don't understand.
Isn't geforce now just a PC that you rent through the internet? So you're just playing the pc version, no? Does this guy want to ban people from playing his game on net cafes as well?
He unironically must think that Nvidia is like Windows or Mac computers.
That or he's an AMD frickboi, in which case it makes sense why they would shaft GeForce users.
I strongly doubt Nvidia without anyone's permission just fricking added a game to it's service.
devs should have as much control over the game as possible, frick publishers
>he/him
why do you bring up troony enablers as an example?
Why would people complain to Nvidia? They're not the ones who have the power to make the decision, he is.
>we're the ones who had it removed, not them
>so take your complaints to them, not us
>(He/Him)
10 years ago I had the dream of becoming a game dev because I love games. Today I hate game devs because 80% of then are insufferable homosexuals. The other 20% are quickly moving to other areas because there's a witch hunt against everyone who's not openly a left militant, even if you're neutral like me. Their mind work like "if you don't think exactly like this, you're our enemy".
Frick modern game development. Frick women leading tech teams. Frick politics in work place.
I wanted an indie game recently but did my due diligence and saw pronouns on the dev's twitter bio. Didn't feel like wasting time trying to find a pirated copy so I just bought a key to cuck him out of the money. This was like three days ago and I'm still feeling pretty happy about it despite finding gay shit in the game.
>he/him
of course
Just checked and it's available on geforce now
So much for that
wouldn't it be cool if we could have a genuine discussion sometimes instead of constantly hiding behind 20 layers of irony and spite
>hey bro, bring over your copy of call of duty let's play it on my xbox
>uh, I don't know man I better call activision first and make sure it's okay
Every video game should have it's source code available to the public so people can port it to whatever the frick platform they want
>the long dark
I was wondering why that game had such ugly-looking fricking tumblerina characters, then I saw the whole section on their website about LGBT inclusion and shit and it kind of made sense.
I have no idea why SJWs all seem to gravitate towards that soulless government billboard clipart artstyle.
Oh they can choose, but expect to get pirated if you make it harder and give less options to play your game
Technically is the same as claiming you own a piece of stolen art cause you paid for it legit.
If a 3rd party sells a product they were not licensed for, its not different that you buying an stolen piece of art, which make the whole transaction illegal.
>pronouns
Opinion automatically invalid.
I'm too ESL and tired for this. Did the dev remove GPU support for the game because the manufacturer didn't ask before making the game playable on their gpus? wut?
It goes on before what GPU does want to render the system. You can't even recognize or configure the do to want more look like. Pretty much unplayable
If you subscribe to Geforce Now, you can install your already purchased games on Nvida's servers and then stream the games to your computer (this works with nearly any computer, so you don't have to build a gaming PC). The people who made The Long Dark didn't like this arrangement, and asked Nvidia to remove their game from Geforce Now.
Wait, what? You're installing your own copy and streaming it. It's not like you're buying it from nvidia or pirating it. wth? Is he moronic? Frick, maybe I'm moronic.
I can see why they were pissed. Imagine a company makes a switch cloud of a PS5 game and let's you play it if you own a ps5 copy, I ca see Capcom getting pissed. If I was a dev, I would tell them to remove it too.
Nvidia made of a bunch of games work with the cloud via their own virtual machines and let you play them on the cloud if you owned the game on steam essentially making cloud ports of games they didn't own. This obviously didn't go well with a lot of developers.
depends on how many other parties are involved. Seems to be a frucking shitfest based on this
Anyone with pronouns in his name is automatically wrong no matter what.
Heh. This whole thread is just pathetic. Hmph. Both sides are wrong. Heh. And i am right. As usual. Hmph.
I kneel.
I remember when this happened. So many morons got exposed that day for not even knowing what geforce now is.
Nvidia was pretty much making cloud ports without permission, I can see why people were mad.
