if you want it and think you will get good use out of it, don't fall for the just wait meme

fucking this, check out what the deck can do and how it performs in the games you're interested and if that's enough for you go get one

bought mine on sale and am happy with it as a sort of expensive mobile emulator

    >do you think a better version will come out soon
Valve said themselves that you shouldn't expect a new deck for at least couple of years. So if you really want to get a deck, buy it.

      >still no Steam Link 2
      >still no Steam Controller 2
      Hurts bros.

bro the link made sense back then but now the idea is completely obsolete.
you can just install the steam link directly on your tv

          >install directly on my tv
Why would I want a smart tv?

are dumb TVs even still being manufactured?

The Steam Deck made me realize how robust the Steam Controller stuff was. I regret not buying one now, it's pretty neato.

OG Steam Controller was an experiment, the single stick made it impractical for serious gaymen. It was cool to try and be around for, but mine collects dust. The next iteration will have 2 sticks and be a lot nicer.

Buy a chink retro handheld instead for a third of the price. Modern games all suck anyways.

I'm waiting for a deck 2. By the time the first one comes out where I live it'll already be 2-3+ years old.

    >soon
definitely not. they said so several times.
maybe something more poweful from one of the competitors will, but not from Valve.

There's been talk of a revision with better wifi although I find mine to already be pretty fast.
A more powerful one likely won't happen for years.

I just use mine as a secondary PC. It really depends on your personal uses and needs.

Should I just buy the 64GB version and use removable storage? How well do games run off of SD cards or USBs?

      Anonymous

They run fine of SD cards, they're still way way faster then ps4 etcs harddrives for comparison.

If you want to buy 64gb, it's very easy to replace the ssd in the steam deck so you can buy your own and do that whenever.

I'd say a better version is about 2 years away. Make of that what you will.

All these guys saying get one are wrong.
I would wait until the holidays ae through.
Steam will only launch v2 before the holidays.
So you can be sure of whether v1 is the only one available.
After the holidays there are also January sales.
If steam does neither v2 or a sale, you have lost nothing, if you wait it may be worth it.

the best followup you can hope for is one of the chinkboxes managing to not have clinically retarded engineering but that's almost as big of a pipedream as valve time

is there an addon that let's me have multiple sd cards in at once? i hate swapping them with my gabesque fingers

Some docks let you have both a microSD and a regular SD card in them at once, but in terms of mobile use I can't think of any. My advice would be to get a good one on sale and just increase the actual storage size rather than swapping all the time. I ended up getting a 1TB microSD myself, but I'm sure you can go higher.

Did Stellaris break for anyone else on the Steam Deck or just me
just keeps crashing when loading the main menu

No, but I usually play it in desktop mode because Paradox's shitty launcher and the UI overlapping make playing it normally awful.

Bought mine 2 months ago, have yet to finish a single game. I have the top 100 games in my library and every single one bores me. Is it depression
