4k movies look fine. 1080p looks fine too. The blurriness is from the monitor being so big.

Just use mpv since it's the best video player on the market and handles this shit the best.

    Nah, 1080p doesn't look blurry.
Nah, it's not really worth it unless your screen is bigger than 32"
Nah, it's not really worth it if your screen is bigger than 32", because 4k is much better and certainly not a novelty
Nah, vidya just looks the same at 1440p.

The point is to FEEL like a grown-up, anon. If you don't FEEL like a grown-up, then you're just a bubble-blowing baby. And the only way to FEEL like a grown-up is to mimic the other grown-ups around you. That means buying a TV, paying for cable, and vegging out in front of it.
            I guess.

What does this even mean? I use a console (in this case Xbox One) to stream from my own media server.

But you don't even need all that, just plug in an external hard drive to your television.

This homie watches movies at his computer lmaooooo.

    1080p doesn't look that bad on a 1440p monitor

    t. anon who was at the 144hz vs 1440p crossroads

so basically id say go for bigger refreshrate on 1080p, your eyes wont be ruined and performance at least on current gen things will be at bare minimum passable if you can reach 60hz

older games Ui scaling is a nightmare and many do not support above fhd anyway. bonus point is u can have 2 same size monitors and not be too fricked off about conserving space on your desk if you live in a tight environment.

Get a 1080p high refresh rate monitor now, and a good 1440p monitor in the future when you have the money. Best of both worlds.

I have a 4K 32" monitor and run Windows 10 at 125% scale. I'm very happy with it.
High-bitrate 1080p videos looks great. Youtube 1080p full-screen looks bad, but that's just because youtube 1080p is dogshit and that's more obvious on a larger screen. Nothing to do with resolution mismatch.
My GPU isn't up to gaming at 4K so I just run games at lower resolutions (ideally by setting the resolution to 4K but then lowering the "render scale" slider below 100%- that way the UI is still 4K).

No, you want a 4k monitor to get rid of TAA. 1440p is a middle of the road meme that isn't worth it.
