So whats the next region? Stia was a step in the right direction compared to Kvaris. But still doesnt instill much confidence in NG's future. Im still banking on this game giving us an End of Service notice within 2 years.
nah their operating costs are like 5 employees and the servers
And for some reason there are like 2000 Blackids that cant stop wasting money on those ugly clothes that they currently release
EQ were interesting in the sense that they sped up raids, you didnt need to look for a party if you didnt want to, the drop rate was absolute garbage but the game compensated it with the cast dude weapons shop
We were on the verge of greatness, luminechs were actually interesting enemies mechanically, many actually designed with the 3D space in mind... but its all gone now
PS3 has a lot of issues but the story really feels like something that could have been written by Vance, Brackett or a similar author back in the 70s or 80s. It absolutely nails the pulpy mix of science fiction and fantasy stuff.
Tower of fantasy felt like a better NGS but its still crap
Blue protocol will be kept alive by bots just like new world
It actually makes me mad that we have no good MMO to play
It looks nice, but the censorship makes me seethe at every jump i gave, the story is way just kinda there and being chink stuff it feels really predatory
Supposedly its similar to genshin, game that i never gave it a try due to all the censorship drama over there too
PSO setting was incredible it truly gave that feeling of "exploring space" PSO2 had better gameplay but HMZK had to kill it TWICE
And SEGA is constantly trying to find ways to scam players instead of making something awesome >SEGA will never again release a game that is not just wasted potential
AAA is currently just trying to make profits by any means at the highest rate, no longer caring to make a descent product, labeling nicely and shilling it everywhere is now the norm
This is true. As someone who played classic wow looking for the feel of the old times, it was only half there. The other half was filled with zoomers who wanted all the handholding and shitty speedrun mentality of modern wow. It was a flawed experience.
If Sega released something like that, it would be a mobile game.
Some dude at PSOWorld made an "expansion pack" of sorts for Card Revolution, a mod that puts all online-only stuff and cut content in the single-player mode (plus some other features). Give it a go if you haven't played it already.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zG73l9joEqp_zB-xNgK9g8pXL0RSpmXfxPFQcdAvess/edit
New Genesis is missing a lot of things and honestly good artstyle alone wouldn't save it
And honestly it wouldn't make much difference either, you will spend most of your time looking at other players' turbo-bimbos and rappies anyway (since story content is only 20min long per patch).
I wish we could get some more single player Phantasy Star games, but I think Sega's acquisition of Atlus made that ship sail. I doubt they feel a need to make their own JRPGs when they have the Megaten franchise to lean on.
Are there any ways to play the original tetralogy with better translations than the originals? I wanted to try them on Switch but looking over the quality/accuracy I decided against it in the hope there was a better option
Romhacking have fan-made translations and bugfixes for the first three games. No idea about IV but I don't remember anything bad about the original game. Maybe PSCave or similar fansites have something.
if there’s anything that could justify a survival crafting genre it would be a sandbox game with pso new genesis assets. too bad the core features of the old games were basically cannibalized by xenoblade chronicles and star ocean
> Phantasy Star 5
A new singleplayer turn-based, story-driven JRPG based on the phantasy star IP made by Sega? The wait is over, bro! And just restarted because Sega pulled the plug on this game..
>play the original PS >kinda of jank but a fun game, cool mix of Star Wars and Dragon Quest >play the second game >can't last a hour
Real shame. There is just something about the first game that was lost.
The problem is Hard science fiction is not going well with flashy anime-style.
Writers nowadays is not nerd enough. Consumers is too stupid to understand shit other than "Bad guy is bad and created a bad thing to do something very bad".
>Look at NGS now
I don't think NGS' story-related problems are about dumb writers and their dumb target audience.
Considering the game's current state, I'm absolutely sure there are no (non-AI) writers in NGS' dev team and the game's target audience just wants to enjoy their hyper bimbo ERP scenarios in peace.
I like both (before the NGS update, at least) but honestly the connections are very surface-level ("big dumb boss with multiple hitboxes likes to rush in a straight line in a desperate attempt to kill the player").
But I bet your friend is a dual blades main (in both games).
I'm playing through the story mode now. It's decent, decent charm to it at the moment. I'm actually surprised how different it is from the rest of the series, possibly for the best as well. It's shaping up to be a peak of all of the games.
Also no, PSP2i was an expansion which included the original PSP2 episode with it. It's all pretty much self contained for story as well.
>Is that worth playing solo?
Yes, you can bring NPCs to missions if you are having trouble with them or just want cute girls following you around. >Do I need to play the previous entries?
PSP2 Infinity includes both the original PSP2 and the new Infinity storyline, they are directly connected so start with Episode 1 and get the good ending (may take two playthroughs if you are bad with women, but the second playthrough is hard mode so at least you get more EXP and cool items).
You don't need to play the original PSU trilogy or PSP1, PSP2's story is standalone (timeskip after the events of the original trilogy, old protags saved the world and are adults with successful careers so the new story have nothing to do with them). >I always found that one girl in 2i really cute..
PSP2 have lots of cute girls.
Thanks >may take two playthroughs if you are bad with women
kek
You can download the translation patch on Romhacking, or get a pre-patched ISO from CDromance.
The game also have some DLC missions/items/costumes, you can get everything from here:
https://psp2i.wiki/w/Downloadable_content

Having NPCs in your party will also allow you to get unique end mission rewards sometimes if you take them on enough of them. They also heal you pretty consistently which is nice.
The online servers have been shut down for ages. It's still possible to play multiplayer through tools like hamachi or whatever people use these days.
That said, nothing prevents you from just entering multi mode and playing missions on your own, aside from the fact that they're harder than solo missions. Some multi mode missions are going to be very difficult to solo, though.
You can ignore the online if you only care about the Story Mode.
Multi Mode has a couple of exclusive Missions that drop some of the highest rank gear and are a decent way to get EXP/Type EXP.
Supposedly Sega is planning to change the monetization model for their next batch of live service "Super Games" (online gambling and NFTs are on the table) so killing all the boobpad whales would only hurt NGS and put the final nail in PSO2's coffin.
The nail is coming either way, dead whales or not. Sega wants to go all out with the Super Games and NGS isn't one of them (gotta follow the tradition of shutting down old games to refurbish their servers for newer games).
It will be a sad day, unless we get a server emulator before that then I won't even there on the final day.
I beat the SEGA AGES version of PS1, and I've tried beating 2 multiple times but every single time I get bored and drop it. Should I just give in and play one of the patches that speed up grinding? Which one is the best patch?
Yes, PSO should try to be more like PSO than PSO2 going forward.
So whats the next region? Stia was a step in the right direction compared to Kvaris. But still doesnt instill much confidence in NG's future. Im still banking on this game giving us an End of Service notice within 2 years.
the next region is end of service
nah their operating costs are like 5 employees and the servers
And for some reason there are like 2000 Blackids that cant stop wasting money on those ugly clothes that they currently release
Honestly, Nip don't know how space sci-fi work.
is it really so bad to have scifi thats not post apocalyptic?
PSO, LoGH and XBX are all much cooler space settings than Star Trek
nip space sci-fi is kino and mogs the west when written with extreme autism
I remember watching this over Christmas must have been at least 15 years ago, don't remember almost anything about it though
I should rewatch it
PSO2 was the peak of the series but NGS is shit.
For me P2/Infinity was the peak.
PSO2's core gameplay is fun but I've never really liked the rest of the game's mechanics/features (especially EQs).
Amazon shit aside, honestly I have no faith in anything "live service" made by Bamco, and Blue Protocol's gameplay isn't that impressive either.
EQ were interesting in the sense that they sped up raids, you didnt need to look for a party if you didnt want to, the drop rate was absolute garbage but the game compensated it with the cast dude weapons shop
We were on the verge of greatness, luminechs were actually interesting enemies mechanically, many actually designed with the 3D space in mind... but its all gone now
PSP2i was the peak
Yes but only because science-fantasy is pure, unfiltered KINO and I will not accept a poor substitute
PS3 has a lot of issues but the story really feels like something that could have been written by Vance, Brackett or a similar author back in the 70s or 80s. It absolutely nails the pulpy mix of science fiction and fantasy stuff.
Let's be real, you don't want current Sega on a Phantasy star game.
They shouldn't go back because they'll fuck it up. But I want to go back.
NÃO SE INTROMETA NO ROMANCE DE LASSIC
>One of the few games from the 90's that actually had an official Portuguese translation
Why didn't they do it more often?
spanish covers more ground.
I wish,my perfect game would have the art direction of PSO,the combat of PSO2 and the weapon progression of Portable 2 Infinity.
PSO is trash. They should make more PS
>female protag
Fuck off with that pozzed shit game.
80s female protags are nothing like the stronk muttskined they/thems that are plaguing games today.
thats a man
Blue protocol is the true pso2 successor.
>in dev for 8 years
>announced way before its time
>amazon shit
I'd laugh if it weren't so pathetic
Might be the true NGS successor in the sense it'll crash and burn right away due to Amazon.
Tower of fantasy felt like a better NGS but its still crap
Blue protocol will be kept alive by bots just like new world
It actually makes me mad that we have no good MMO to play
And I really liked the character designs of ToF.
It looks nice, but the censorship makes me seethe at every jump i gave, the story is way just kinda there and being chink stuff it feels really predatory

>Really Gay Guys
No thanks
cringe
no, of course not. Only extremely old people even played those and they didn't even sell all that well back then.
No, anyone capable of making a good classic Phantasy Star has left Sega. They're better off figuring out how to salvage the online games.
AAA is currently just trying to make profits by any means at the highest rate, no longer caring to make a descent product, labeling nicely and shilling it everywhere is now the norm
going back is probably not the solution, it's a "you had to be there" thing
This is true. As someone who played classic wow looking for the feel of the old times, it was only half there. The other half was filled with zoomers who wanted all the handholding and shitty speedrun mentality of modern wow. It was a flawed experience.
Yes. Extremely go back. I'm glad for the series that PSO was so successful but after Like a Dragon I want to see SEGA do a normal JRPG again.
I wish we could go back.
Why can't we get a card game like Episode 3 again?
If Sega released something like that, it would be a mobile game.
Some dude at PSOWorld made an "expansion pack" of sorts for Card Revolution, a mod that puts all online-only stuff and cut content in the single-player mode (plus some other features). Give it a go if you haven't played it already.

So muck fucking SOVL!
this is the level of sovl that new genesis is missing
New Genesis is missing a lot of things and honestly good artstyle alone wouldn't save it

PSO should go back
To episode 3 C.A.R.D. revolution.
Also how the fuck is there not a PSO episode 1-4 HD port? Would sell gorillians on switch.
Are there any ways to play the original tetralogy with better translations than the originals? I wanted to try them on Switch but looking over the quality/accuracy I decided against it in the hope there was a better option

Thanks anon
stop begging for sequels from series that had definitive conclusions
Why would it have to be a sequel? Why couldn't it be a "Final" Fantasy kind of deal in a different star system?
if there’s anything that could justify a survival crafting genre it would be a sandbox game with pso new genesis assets. too bad the core features of the old games were basically cannibalized by xenoblade chronicles and star ocean
pso2/ngs makes them more money than ever in the series. Why put in any effort to please a minority of boomers?
Just embrace the barbie dress-up.
>Still no Phantasy Star 5
How much longer do I have to wait
> Phantasy Star 5

I miss it, lots of easy SG too.
When they annouced dreamcast 2

Good point
>Writers nowadays
you mean critical race theorists?
Now that I think about it, I never gave PS1 a proper playthrough since I'm a PS2 and PS4 enjoyer. Thank you for the reminder
>friend says if i like monster hunter i will like PSO2
>friend is also a retard
do i listen to him?
>MH fag
Probably not but it's free so the only thing you waste is your limited time on this earth
If he'd said the original PSO he would have a point.
psp2i > PSO2
I like both (before the NGS update, at least) but honestly the connections are very surface-level ("big dumb boss with multiple hitboxes likes to rush in a straight line in a desperate attempt to kill the player").

lmao he is dual blades main in MH, a braindead one at that

I would play more psp2i if i didn't need vpn+discord for online and break out of the forced 30fps on multiplayer.
How critical is the online mode to finish the game?
>discord
oh god pls no no no
The online servers have been shut down for ages. It's still possible to play multiplayer through tools like hamachi or whatever people use these days.

I miss the art style of that decade
Go back to original PS or go back to PSO? Cause the original wasn’t popular and PSO was when ppl started to give a shit.
Get people to stop whaling on cosmetics and you'll quality drastically improve. This is true for all live services games.
>Get people to stop whaling on cosmetics
it cant be done. just look how much money genshin made
Supposedly Sega is planning to change the monetization model for their next batch of live service "Super Games" (online gambling and NFTs are on the table) so killing all the boobpad whales would only hurt NGS and put the final nail in PSO2's coffin.

all of the phantasy star games have an egregious amount of grinding, its a series staple
The patch to speed up grinding is called Kega Fusion + increase gamespeed
do NOT play the remake of Phantasy Star 2. play the original. you have general permission to look up maps.
There was a remake? I was talking about fan patches, I remember there being a chart on what all of them do.
PSI and II got remakes on PS2.
Oh I meant the Switch SEGA AGES version that's just the original game with a mini-map
Character designer died last year.
